  1. When I was in my youth I used to see him every Saturday morning for quite a few years when he worked with my ma in the returns department for W.H.Smith in the British Rail building opposite Midland Station. He came across as being a bit shy and reserved as I remembered and my ma always asking him for a song (Which he never did alas)

Only last year I contacted his agent in the Colorado Hills where his farm was and asked if Joe could remember those early days.He responded saying he could well recall those times with my ma and myself which obviously made our day.Joe you are a true legend RIP.

  3. Is it definitely male? Just a lady posted on a missing cats group page on Facebook that her female black and white cat has gone missing in the S12 area from around Rainbow Forge primary school last Wednesday. It had a pink collar and was microchipped.

We had the Birley cat checked out and it is def a male,12 months old,no collar and no microchip

Hi. Thanks for letting me know about this on Facebook. I think we came to see this cat yesterday on Thornbridge close and it wasn't ours but if you have a photo we could double check? Thank you

HTurner >> Not the same cat i'm afraid. My daughter Carly has already been in contact I believe from Sheffield Online.

  4. The big tree on Thornbridge Drive / Thornbridge Avenue junction is being felled

by Amey Group on behalf of Sheffield Council very shortly due to its "unsafe condition" they claim. They also expect to remove most of the roots but surely after about 80 years they could spread for miles under the houses in the area causing possible subsidence and underpinning having to be employed, mine included ! [Oh well.they're experts]

  5. If the brewing companies would simply reduce their prices for drink then they would not being closing down pubs at an alarming rate of 28 per week nationally.Supermarket chains have seen the gap selling cheap booze and exploited it pushing the poor pubs into oblivion and no doubt the trend will continue spiralling.
