  1. undertaker on mansfield road is jarvis cockers uncle. he sorted my grandmas funeral a few years back and was talking about how jarvis used to practice in his garage and never saw him after he became famous. but i must admit he didn't really look too bothered lol
  2. getting a council property on Hackenthorpe is bloody hard work!!!! if i wanted one at gleadless i could get one tomorrow....i think i'll wait lol no offence gleadless people
  3. i've started a family tree and up to now its pretty easy. All my family are from sheffield so that cuts alot of searching out. http://www.ancestry.co.uk is a good site, you do have to pay for it but its well worth it i'd say. good luck anyways
  4. yeah TWA756, i read in a book called 'strange sheffield' about the tunnel leading from the pub next to St Marys church at Handsworth....cant remember where it went to lol it did say though that the entrance to the tunnel leads from the pub cellar and is blocked up by barrels but can still be seen....sure someone could blag a look if really interested. The book just went on about several other tunnels through sheffield, mainly to Manor Lodge. Think i remember something about one being under pond street. Aparantly they were used to transport Mary Queen of Scots. sounds unrealistic i suppose but no more unbelievable than a womans head being chopped off and her wig falling off first.....shame lol
  5. i remember my friend dressing up as jive bunny to go to the carnival fancy dress lol sadly she didn't win, guess her grandads sweaty socks with a bit of cornflake box inside didn't make convincing ears! no idea when it started sorry.
  6. someone told me hendersons was closing down, after realising it was a sick joke i patted my head down and celebrated with a meat and potato pie and mushy peas armed with my bottle of relish next to me not worrying about how much i use cause i can just trot off to the shop when i need some more. reading your stories brought a tear to my eye ha ha relying on visits for a bottle of hendersons. for the best sob story i am willing to post a bottle of hendersons to you !!
  7. new shoes on the table is bad luck so they say, but surely its bad luck to put old ones on, without checking whats on the bottom
  8. it was 14 years Mary Queen of Scots was kept captive there. The pub on saint aidans road, the captive Queen is now a church. there goes more history.
