( and he turns up when he says he's going to and is punctual ) I would recommend him to anyone . I've asked him to come back and do some work in my back garden . Deecee

  8. Hiya willybite , yeah I do remember you saying about our dads being at school together , my dad went to St. Stephens and then Crookesmoor . My dad was the manager at Toms in Charles st., and yes Bernard Pitts did work there , him and my dad were best pals ,they both had motor bike and side cars and we used to go on family trips on Sundays ,(when they weren't polishing their bikes together in the garages down Bromley St) small world isn't it , your mum working with Bernard at Viners . We will have to raise a glass next month to our dads 100 th won't we ! It was sad to hear of Sam Marsdens passing , he was a great friend to my dad and my mum , and such a nice bloke . kind regards David
  9. http://www.gardenersworld.com/plantSearch.do?searchType=site&plantSearch=rust+on+raspberry+plant&x=17&y=10 would this be any help Debk ?
  10. hiya Busy bee , the garage where Yates' is at the junction of Carver Street and Division Street , was a garage called " Motor Services - Carver Street " and went through to Backfields which was a narrow lane . Two pictures of the garage taken in Backfields can be seen on :-www.picturesheffield.com the reference numbers are : s13186 & s13184 . I worked at this garage from 1961 until 1963 as an apprentice motor mechanic . The 3 owners (partners ) were : Charles May , Charles Frith and Harry Whitehouse . I think Cambridge Motors ( who had some really top class cars ) if I remember correctly was about 200 yards down Cambridge Street , just a bit further down than Gilders Autos , who only specialised in VW cars . There was never a car showroom where Yates' is . I hope this helps deecee
  11. hiya willybite , they probably were in the same year, my dad was born in 1912 also, he would have been 98 in March if he had lived. He died 30years ago last month. I don't half miss him still !! kind regards, David

  15. Hiya willyite , my mum & dad lived with his granddad ( Herbert Taylor ) in Bellefield lane for a short while , I should say my mum was there most of the time while my dad was in Norway in the war years . His name was Bert Crookes , you may recall , him going to St stephens school and Crookesmoor school, and working at Laycocks . He was in the cutter grinders shop . Your dad may have known the Taylors and the havenhands ( they were my grannies family ) .small world eh ! regards David
