  13. A day of reggae and dub inspired films as part of Sensoria Festival 2010: SENSORIA SOUND SYSTEM: KEEP ON RUNNING (PG) Dir. Stuart Watts UK 2009 1hr 30mins The story of one of the most important record labels of the 20th Century. Keep on Running features a myriad of artists all ready and willing to pay tribute to the work of one man, Chris Blackwell. To all intents and purposes Island Records is Chris Blackwell and his love of Jamaican music was his main motivation for starting out. His first foray into music artist management was with Millie Small and from this point on, not only did his career soar, but he vowed to look after artists as a long term relationship rather than for short term gain. It is this ethos that has carried the Island Records brand and engendered an artist loyalty rarely seen in an often fickle industry. Itโ€™s common knowledge that Island signed the likes of Bob Marley and U2 but their roster also included artists from Frankie Goes to Hollywood to Pulp to Amy Winehouse. Date: Sunday 25th April 2010 Time: 15:30 Venue: Showroom Cinema Price: ยฃ6.90 full / ยฃ4.60 concessionary followed by SENSORIA SOUND SYSTEM: DUB ECHOES (12A) Dir. 19. BRITISH SEA POWER (LIVE) PERFORMING THEIR SOUNDTRACK TO "MAN OF ARAN" _______________________________________________________ Sensoria is delighted to welcome special guests British Sea Power to perform their live soundtrack to Man of Aran for the festivalโ€™s closing night celebrations. Man of Aran is a powerful and provocative dramatised documentary from the late American filmmaker Robert J Flaherty. In a series of startling black-and-white sequences, the film presents daily life on the inhospitable Aran islands off the west coast of Ireland. But Man Of Aran isnโ€™t a straightforward documentary, it provides a blend of reality and staged elements. The fishing expedition for basking sharks, which forms the filmโ€™s dramatic heart, was based around methods that hadnโ€™t been employed on the Aran Islands for decades. Pauline Kael described it as, โ€œThe greatest film tribute to manโ€™s struggle against a hostile nature.โ€ โ€œItโ€™s a wonderful film,โ€ says BSP guitarist Noble. โ€œThe images vary between huge drama and a brilliant kind of ridiculousness โ€“ check out the amazing foot-wide bobbled berets that the fishermen wear. Itโ€™s a great look, like a 1930s Irish version of Jack White or Kraftwerk. Itโ€™s a film thatโ€™s also relevant to the current era โ€“ a time when the idea of living a simpler life is in the air. The film shows something Iโ€™d like to think I could do, but know I never will.โ€ NB: THERE WILL BE TWO PERFORMANCES OF THE LIVE SHOW Tickets available online (http://www.showroomworkstation.org.uk/) or from the Showroom Box Office (0114 275 7727) * Price: ยฃ12.50 full / ยฃ8.50 concessionary * Venue: Showroom Cinema * Time: 19:00 & 21:00 * Date: Thursday 29th April 2010
