Both - it was ram raided (again) last night and appears to be having new doors fitted today.
-
Was related to more break -ins in the area, but apparently the Police made some arrests this time. On a less positive note it looks like Asda on South Road was ram-raided again last night......

I have also wondered this myself - would be interested if anyone knows the answer!

Recommendations for Good places to eat in Sheffield
bluecanary replied to becks7785's topic in Going out in Sheffield
I tried this place for the first time last week and can verify the OPs claim that it was delicious, and (in my rather more limited experience) authentic. Also reasonably priced, which is a bonus. Will definitely be going back. -
Ram raid at Asda walkley

Sheffield Star have now cottoned on to this - only 6 days after it happened! https://www.thestar.co.uk/news/police-reveal-details-of-another-supermarket-ram-raid-in-sheffield-1-9589310 -
Ram raid at Asda walkley
bluecanary replied to Steve marriot's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
The incident was actually Wednesday night/early Thursday and the store was shut for most of the day yesterday. Would have thought there were more lucrative places to target, to be honest! -
Would be interested in getting one too. we have nowhere sheltered to store the current large brown one and it repeatedly gets blown onto the road in high winds, spreading bottles and cans everywhere. As well as being inconvenient, it is potentially quite dangerous. I added this as a note when we requested a replacement bin when the lid got broken off a couple of weeks ago, but have had no response from the council/Veolia.

Saw this on BBC Breakfast this morning: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-46738576 What a moving story - Tony was one of the kids playing in the park that day that the plane reportedly avoided, crashing into the hillside beyond and killing all ten airmen on board. He clearly has been suffering the trauma of this event for the last 75 years, and has tended the memorial ever since. The fly past clearly means a lot to him and I hope it would give him closure.

Look North last night reported that Yorkshire Water were planning for a potential water shortage next summer depending on the level of rain/snow fall we get over the next few months. Presumably some of their reservoirs are also in the Peak District. Love the National Library of Scotland map website with the slider. Have just wasted far too long playing with that!

Glad that your wife escaped unscathed! It looks like they have finished gutting the inside now, so presumably they would have found any other lost individuals trapped inside. I guess the next step will be demolishing the building.

Running by river in Dronfield

Brilliant - thanks again. -
Running by river in Dronfield
bluecanary replied to bluecanary's topic in Sheffield Sport & Activities
That sounds ideal. Any hints on how to access it i.e. where on Callywhite Lane? Thanks in advance! -
Just wondering if anyone local to Dronfield could tell me if there is an accessible path suitable for running next to the river, and where is the bast place to access it? Also, would the route be generally safe for a lone runner during daylight - are there usually other runners/walkers around? Many thanks!

According to their Facebook page they had a bonfire on Monday, so hopefully not closed. Had a very nice Sunday lunch there just a few weeks ago and it seemed to be doing very well.

I agree that it's always a shame to lose local social places like this, but sadly I don't think it really catered for the tastes of the younger generations, so it's days were always going to be numbered. It did attempt to rebrand itself as "The Walkley" when it reopened about a year ago, but sadly that didn't seem to work either - they largely seemed to be offering more of the same.

The fences and demolition notices have gone up and they seem to be gutting the inside. Anyone any idea what the site is going to be used for?

Update on Walkley Library?
bluecanary replied to BurtBackcrak's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Completely baffled by this. As the poster who replied to this said, both Italians and the Lebanese do nice food and seem to have a good trade (though agree about the perpetually empty Indian). To add to that, in the daytime there's Gerties and Gerry's which are always packed, Cafe Pie (not just a greasy spoon) seems to do pretty well and have recently discovered Joespresso, which is fantastic. It's a shame about the library development and I really hope it stays, but would be amazed if these other businesses folded just because of this. ---------- Post added 20-10-2018 at 08:09 ---------- Oh, and just to add the Walkley Beer Company is really popular and the Blind Monkey, a couple of minutes down the hill seems to be doing a roaring trade. -
Help - sash windows painted shut!
bluecanary replied to bluecanary's topic in Sheffield Property & Housing
Happy to report the guys who did the painting came back and unstuck the windows for us. Thanks all for your comments and suggestions. -
Would be grateful if anyone could provide some advice here. We accepted a quote for some painting of external windows at the front of our second floor flat, without agreeing a specific date for the work to take place. We were away for a couple of weeks and when we returned, found that the job had been done, but that we could no longer open our sash windows! Before raising this with the company involved, we were wondering whether i) anyone has any tips for getting the windows open (given that we don't have a ladder to access the second floor easily) or ii) should the company have taken reasonable care that this didn't happen? Any advice appreciated - thank you!

Loxley Valley - air full of smoke
bluecanary replied to Jimi Hendrix's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Was on Look North this morning - apparently it is the Staffordshire fire. Loxley Valley looks very hazy indeed from up here in Walkley and the smell seems to be getting worse. Posted from Sheffieldforum.co.uk App for Android
