  7. Hi there, I attended Ellsmere School from infants to Juniors then Burngreave, do you remember the dreaded Miss Yates, 1946 to 195? then Burngreave after about 1951

Hi I had an aunt called Doris who lived in Watery Street in the area mentioned, but her surname was Taffe then she married Ernest Martin, they kept the pub on Spital Hill where there was a shooting, then they moved to keep the Norfolk Pub in Handsworth Sheffield, she died quite some years ago, my mothers maiden name was Headford born in the Park Area of Sheffield 1912

Hi there, nice to hear from you, but sadly we cannot help you, my husband was born on Windy House Lane on the Manor, in 1939, his brother Harry Hewitt lived at 3 Wulfric Close but sadly he died about 2 years ago, We have had snow this week first about 5'' on Monday then perhaps another 4'' today, aprox 160 schools are closed in South Yorkshire, I did try to reply earlier today to you but think I went about it the wrong way so if you get 2 messages from us, thats the reason why. Its just started snowing again, looks like we could be having a white christmas. ha ha

Hi I have a pair of Gloops cuff links, lovely blue enamel with Gloops Thile around the face of Gloops, Aunt Edith used to run the Gloops club in the Star, Initially Gloops spoke with a lisp but lots of children in the Sheffield area began to imitate him, so the Star started to have Gloops speaking correctly, think these cuff links were won in a competition by my Father around late 1930s or early 1940s
  16. Hi there, I lived in Pitsmoor, Sorby Street, I went to Ellesmere School then Burnhreave school, Miss Yates was the headmistress, oh dear she certainly was a stickler for behaviour. I left that school in 1953, we moved to Stradbroke, it was lovely to have a garden after living in back to back houses

  22. Billy Wainwright lived on our street, he was harmless but looked scarry, he took me a ride on a bike with no brakes, scared my mother stiff, do you remember any one from Sorby Street??

Hi Kidorry, wow did you live on Sorby Street, I to remember Mr Ash the Coal merchant, they kept hens and chickens up the coal yard, we could purchase new laid eggs from him, I lived in the yard next but one down from the Coal merchants yard, next yard down from us was Joe Lumbys ice cream man, we used to go there on a Sunday afternoon and by 2/- worth of ice cream (10p in 'new money', it made sandwiches for the 2 adults and 3 children in our family.
