  1. What about bread poltices? My mum swore by them. And yes i remember thermogene, made me sneeze too.
  2. I loved cod liver oil and malt, later Virol, I still occationally buy a bottle and have at least one desert spoon full. Mum used to give us Liquafruita in winter for coughs, I was the only one who would take it. Welfare orange, loved that too, can still taste it now. Scotts Emulsion, god that was the fowlest stuff on earth, it only came out as a last resort when we were all down with coughs and colds. Minadex, yes that too, didn't mind it was glad when they brought cod liver oil capsuls in ) We used to go to the welfare clinic in Darnall. Does any one remember the xray place somewhere down the more?

  4. There is a reunion booked for the 21st April, if anyone is interested in attending please contact me at [email protected] or through the site Thanks MarionC
  5. The fabulous hills, whereever you are in Sheffield, you can see green hills. This was the main thing I missed when I left and still do
  6. I remember the chestnut seller on Snig Hill in the earlie 60's, it was always a treat on a winter evening on my way home from school (St Peter's) to Darnall. Like many others on here, the smell of roasted chestnuts take you straight back.
  7. Hi All Today I have sent a letter to The Star, asking them to put a note on their In Touch page about the reunion. So if any of you attended during the 50's and/or 60's you are more than welcome to attend. Please feel free to tell anyone you know Thanks
  8. Yes we did have a dog called Lassie she died at 17, and the fridge! Was no10 in the top yard or the yard with Rowbothams in? Kelwin hasn't changed one bit i'm glad to say, still as as daft as every:-)
  9. When I became pregnant at 16 my mum took me to see a mother and baby home run by nuns, we were RC, one look was enough, on returning home my step dad asked what I thought, I told him it was horrible, so he said I didn't have to go then My mum was horrified that I didn't want to 'go away' to hide the shame. Her first words on hearing I was pregnant were 'what will the neighbours say'. Oh for the swinging sixties this was 1967. She also told our gp that I should have the baby aborted, he asked who was having the baby, when she replied me, he told her to leave the surgery. Needless to say, my son is now almost 44 and he is now a dad himself. I married the boy next door 6 months pregnant, and we celebrated our 44th wedding anniversary a few weeks ago. I feel so sad for those girls who didn't have a good step dad like me, he was my saving grace I was born and lived in Sheffield until 1975, the Catholic M&B home was somewhere around Burngreave I think or possibly Shiregreen
  10. I worked there when it first opened, stayed for about 6months, it was mad ) A friend and I would then go over to Scamps and work till 2am Thurs, - Saturday, the things you do when young

  14. Hi All I was born on Candow Street, off Shirland Lane and lived there till 1963 when we moved to Middlewood. Candow Street was demolished in about 1967. I went to St Charles school on Hepponstall Lane. Some one mentioned the Russell family, I was in the same class as David Russell. We would walk to High Hazels park at the weekend, Saturday morning was spent at Attercliffe baths, afternoon at the roller skating rink. School holidays we would catch the bus out to Longshaw or Fox House and play by the river all day. Millhouses park playing in the paddling pool. We would hang about in a large group of 12 or more, no being moved on or split up by the police! A favourite play ground was the Briccie where BRS had there place, also the building site when they built the Staniforth Arms. Sledging on the 'tip' where the Chain Annealing Company was/is. My brother managed to impail himself on railings at the St Andrews Mission Hall on Shirland Lane, luckily it left him non the worse. I remember the Easter parade, it was one of the highlights of the holiday as we never got more than one Easter egg! My maiden name was Meegan, brothers are Kelwin always known as 'Cab' and Michael. Many happy memories of an idillyc childhood
  15. Youth worker I went to Birchfields many times, both when I worked in Sheffield also when I worked for Salford, Don't know who it belonged too, but the education departments used it a lot
