So did the anything actually happen? Or was this simply the latest example of the Lib Dems attempting to waste police time?
-
Certainly a slight impression of this being caused by sour grapes, not sure that the police will have that much time to investigate as surely they'll be busy guarding Dave Croft's signs if he's standing in the Manor by-election. However, perhaps Umseek can clarify this, but the order of events seems slightly strange. From the article in the Star it appears that the Lib Dem's response was to 1: Issue Press Release 2: Inform Police When surely a more sensible course of action would be to 1: Speak to/write to Cllr. Curran and request that if he has any data which he is alleged to and is no longer entitled to hold under the data protection act could he delete/return it. 2: If he doesn't do this then, inform the Information Commissioner 3: Consider whether a press release is necessary.

Sheffield Central - Did queues put you off?
Jops replied to chem1st's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
There's an area that was in the old Netherthorpe ward around Commonside that went Central>Hallam, but most of the movement was the other way round so Central gained a lot of people in Broomhill and Walkley and lost Burngreave. -
What election leaflets have you had?
Jops replied to cornfed_pig's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Tell us another one, people delivering lib dem leaflets in both Walkley and Manor castle have admitted to being paid and aren't volunteers. That's on top the twice weekly letters that are being posted from Lib Dem HQ in London by 'onepost' or are they doing it for free as well. Scriven's election spending form is going to be an interesting read. -
Council elections in Sheffield on May 6th
Jops replied to Bigthumb's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
The councillors up for election are those who won in 2006, results here which gives you an idea of the position of the parties in your ward. However, no doubt some are retiring etc so check the list of candidates at the bottom of this page, I guess some will have delivered leaflets. -

Wow, got the most stunningly negative leaflet from the lib dems today, which certainly doesn't let the facts get in the way of a good smear. I'm not sure if it's crossed their mind to encourage people to vote for them instead of just slagging everyone else off or saying that various parties 'can't win here'. -

The Lib Dems are really really annoying me
Jops replied to not_realy_me's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I don't mind what the Lib Dems do with their own time and money. It's Scriven using council (i.e. our) money to promote himself which I object to. -

It's not leaflets though, it's every time the council sends out something they also feel the need to send a magazine telling us about our dear leader. -

More annoying is Scriven's habit of using the council needing to let you know something about council tax, bins, etc as an excuse to have a glossy brochure promoting him distributed to the entire city. If the council needs to let me know something a letter explaining it will do just fine I don't need or want a magazine. -
Having met Catherine, yes she is the labour candidate for Walkley. But in answer to your rather faecetious questions; not everyone spends their entire life on the forum, Walkley and Hillsborough are in the same Area Panel Community Assembly, she's promoting a petition to improve the local area are you so cynical as to think that people who stand for election don't actually have a genuine interest in improving the area. Other than that the rest of your questions are rather petty political pointscoring and I'd much prefer to see someone trying to improve the community and not sit at a computer sniping.

As above he's the General Manager of Sheffield Uni Student's Union and Labour Candidate for Sheffield Central. He also used to be chairman of Sheffield City Trust and was involved with the redevelopment/running of the City Hall and Ponds Forge amongst other venues. the original poster may find the following website useful. http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Paul+Blomfield

Why Should Pedestrians Pay Their Council Tax?
Jops replied to a topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Clearing and gritting every pavement/path isn't practical, but surely pavements alongside the priority routes could be cleared & gritted. The parks department could be given this job, if there are not enough then start drafting say 1 in 5 people from back office roles in Howden House/Town Hall until they have enough. For residential areas it's only going to be practical to get people to clear in front of their house, though this would require more/better stocked grit bins to be provided by the council.
