  1. Hi, I'm looking for a space, initially short term, but potentially longer. I'm in S35 so preferably this side of the city. Minimum requirement is power and water, as I want to use this space to keep a few aquariums in while I move house. The background / general idea here is I have a fish room at home in my garage and want to move them out of there over a few weeks, then move them into the new space over a few weeks. Depending on the space, I might just keep them there and use it as a fish room / studio to film projects (I have an aquarium based YouTube channel). I realise most places will have a minimum term commitment or concerns about water - but my main issue is getting anyone to even respond to queries on the rare occasion I do find something that might be available. I'm not looking for a freebie or anything, willing to pay market rates, I'm obviously looking in the wrong places! Does anyone have any ideas where to look, if not have a space available? Failing that - anyone fancy renting out some space in their garage for a week!
  2. I post updates on my fish tanks and all kind of related stuff (link in sig) on YouTube - just wondering how many fish keepers we have here?
  3. Everyone is able to interpret the guidance slightly differently, and some use snippets of advice or musings of a minister to back up their interpretation while ignoring or minimising the rest of the advice, or commentary from actual experts. The key issue is not how far you drive or how long you spend outside - it's minimising the risk of you not being able to maintain social distancing, therefore not spreading or catching the virus. You'll be more of a burden to the system if you have a mental breakdown worrying about what you can and cannot do, and I don't really much like the idea of a society so eager to shop their neighbour for two trips to Tescos this week! The guidance isn't perfect, and the spirit of the guidance isn't to meet the most draconian lowest common denominator - it's just trying to keep everyone safe. Things don't make sense - it is unfair we can be crammed into supermarkets with (IME) everyone ignoring the one way systems and social distancing efforts they are putting place to help us - yet we couldn't play golf alone, or go fishing or any number of solo pursuits where you may never encounter another person. Arguing about who can go where and how long they can do it isn't helping anyone though. I've been driving my family around to different places not in an effort to flout the rules - but to minimise the chances we'll meet other people. I'm not sure I would personally pick damflask as there are 5 of us and might be hard to get out of the way of another group coming the other way, but I don't begrudge anyone else checking it out.
  4. I think this qualifies as a silly thread - OK, here goes... If you have anything resembling a passing interest in aquariums (or even if you don't TBH) could you consider subscribing to my YouTube channel to help me win a bet with an unbearably smug American. We're racing to 5k subscribers - he's buying ads but I'm a Scotsman living in Yorkshire so that aint happening. Video making skills aren't getting me there so I'm resorting to plain begging. https://goo.gl/wXWoCg If you feel like actually watching a video I wouldn't hate that either! Also - yes, I'm aware how tragically pathetic this is - but he's really annoying. Thanks!!
  5. Do you folk who can't spell just not know how a camera works? It can't hurt children, it doesn't actually steal their soul - people were only kidding about that!
  6. Just to be clear - as you have not been so far - what exactly is your problem with someone taking a picture of your child? What did you think was going on?
  7. What exactly were you concerned about - did you think the camera would steal your child's soul?
  8. Could anyone suggest a venue. This is for a fish show (yes, such things exist), so basically loads of fish tanks, judges, with lectures / presentations, vendor stalls. Etc. needs to be booked for a week, in October. 350-500m2 open area, can be in 2 linked locations, must have water resistant floors so wood or carpet is 100% out. Larger is OK, smaller is likely to be a problem fitting in. Room suitable for lecture, negotiable, we may have to miss if space not available The Doncaster dome was booked, as part of a larger event, but there has been a problem and this has been cancelled. Suggestions welcome!
  9. "When he finally confronted the youths after they hit his wife, Mr Cox was headbutted and punched to the ground" So what, now all stories that mention snowballs are fair game?
  10. No. Swerving to avoid a brick is sensible. Bricks can smash windscreens and kill you. Snowballs can't. You are aware what a snowball is aren't you?
  11. "As I was clearing the snow from my eyes I realised I was on the wrong side of the road" says teenage driver who had just passed her test. Now, I won't suggest it must not be nice to be unexpectedly hit with a snowball while driving, I just fail to see what part of that makes you drive into oncoming traffic! Also, cause and effect has plenty of defence in the eyes of the law and is a silly argument. The effect was a crash. The cause was losing control of her vehicle. The cause of that was driving into oncoming traffic. The cause of that was poor driving decisions or ability. The cause of that was distraction. The cause of that was snow in the eye. The cause of that was having her window open and someone throwing a snowball. The cause of that was deliberate snowball throwing. The cause of that was snow and youthful hi-jinx. The cause of that was a high pressure system moving in. The cause of that was global warming. The cause of that was poor decisions. So why is it the particular cause of snowballing that caused the effect? Why not having a window open or global warming? What if a bit of snow just flew in her eye with the wind? Poor driving causes crashes. Snowballs don't help but they are not the cause any more than the weather.
  12. We should prevent people like that from driving - let's not be sexist. Lets be clear here - a snowball or a spider do not have the mass capable to divert the path of a car. What we're talking about is people getting a fright, who's response is to slam the brakes on or veer of their intended course. Even if the 'bang' you heard was you hitting something or someone (though the fact this could be a possibility without you knowing tells it's own story) there is a zero percent chance that any kind of wheel jerking or brake slamming would improve the situation. By all means panic, just don't swerve the car or mash the brake pedal.
  13. I've done an extensive search and can't find a single incident where a snowball caused a crash. I can see a few where really bad drivers have caused a crash because their reaction to their huge metal conveyance being hit by a snowball has inexplicably been to veer off course or slam the anchors on. A snowball cannot alter the course of a car - a bad driver can try to blame the snowball, or use snowball as an excuse to cover their ineptitude in wintery conditions. ---------- Post added 02-01-2015 at 12:13 ---------- You've heard of physics I presume? Snowballs dont crack windscreens or dent cars. End of story. Really deliberately compacted into an ice-ball maybe at a push might make a dent but no way it can crack a windscreen. Just because there were no apparent rocks or ice doesn't mean there were no rocks or ice, or that there is some other explanation. The 'surprise' point was not aimed at you, but at the people who's first reaction is to veer off course or slam the brakes on and cause a crash.
  14. I was attacked by snowballs in my car and immediately lost control and wiped out dozens of innocent pedestrians.... No...wait... Some kids threw snowballs at me in my car and nothing happened. At all. That was it. Snowballs don't crack windscreens or dent doors or cause pile ups. Rocks or maybe ice at a push might cause damage, in which case fair enough I'd be upset about it if it happened to me, but it didn't and I'm afraid I don't believe it does happen. If you are so surprised when driving past a group of kids in the snow that a snowball may come your way that you veer off course and crash you need to take a look at yourself and maybe stay indoors when the snow falls, you are not fit to be allowed on the road.
  15. I would like to take the kids to the pantomime but would rather not pay £100 to do so. Any recommendations for pantomimes from amateur dramatic companies?
  16. Hi, Sorry to sound like a harbinger of doom - but Rams are not friendly. I would even go as far as to say murderous. There are also notoriously finnicky about water quality - so will not appreciate a 'fish-in' cycle like you plan. You may not kill them immediately, but a high risk of shortening their lifespan. There are also a lot of different water parameter requirements for the fish you are proposing, and the tank is (or will be when grown) too small for all of them. Best to do a fishless cycle as suggested, maybe even get some mature media from someone here to speed up the process, get it started now in a bucket even (its the filter you mature rather than the tank) if you're worried about decorating.
  17. Might be worth explaining what an AED is - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Automated_external_defibrillator What do you mean by 'in the village' - where exactly? They are usually in places where people gather, but can be controlled (I'm thinking shopping centre, cinema, sports arena etc) rather than just out in the street?
  18. Reason for Rehome / Sale - I keep Discus, I have a few pairs which I've bred and have some juvi fish for sale. At the moment I have Red Alenquer strain ready for sale. Time Scale – How Urgent? - Not urgent Sale Amount - 3 for £20 Location - S35 (Oughtibridge) Approximate size now and full grown size - Between 2 & 3 inch now, 5 - 7 inch plus as adults Minimum fish tank size needed - Should be kept in groups of 6 minimum, 180l minimum size as adults Any Current health problems - None COmpatibility with other fish - Any comfortable with heat a Discus tank requires (28 - 30 degrees C) and will not fit in the mouth of a discus! Generally kept with various tetra, corydoras, plecs, etc Beginners, moderate or experienced levels of fishkeeping required - moderate Easy to feed - Yes, fed on beefheart mix at the moment (I can supply food too if required). Blackworm, whiteworm, granules, pellets, mussles also common foods Destructive Behaviour - no Temperature range - 28 - 30 degrees Tropical water required General information that you can share - Young Discus require more care than adults or your average tropical fish. They will only thrive and reach their full potential with regular fresh water changes and multiple daily feeds, or stunted growth could be a risk. Happy to answer any questions you may have, or feel free to view without obligation.
  19. I've three log rolls all a couple of feet high. They've been used so a bit weathered but plenty of life left in them. Also a bit of trellis and two lengths of border edging. If anyone would like them? Or if you know of a group who might be able to make use of them.
  20. Anyone interested in any of the following? 2 male opaline gourami 6 tetra not sure what sort 1 fire mouth cichlid 2 bala shark 6 ruby barb (2 male 4 female) Get in touch if you would like any of them.
  21. Cat's can kill humans - mostly babies by suffocation. Too lazy to look up info to support this assertion though, may just be an urban myth.
  22. Whether it was on a lead or not, if your dog crapped next to me while I was eating, then you hung around to debate the matter getting all worked up with a bag of warm poo swinging about, I'd ask if you minded pi$$ing off too. I'm trying to eat my dinner and you're clearly a nutter! Whether it's legal or not to let a dog off leash, it's not nice to have any animal sidle up to you for a poo while you're eating. Should have apologised, took any comments that came your way and swiftly moved on if you can't or wont train your dog not to do that. It's the people who say "my dog wouldn't hurt a fly, it's fine off the leash" that annoy meMy last dog was a boxer, very good tempered but large and sometimes giddy - just because I knew that didn't mean others knew she wasn't attacking rather than coming over to say hello and see if any strokes would be forthcoming. I remember her once in Endcliffe park, on a leash, sat at my feet, got up as a kid walked past (just stood up, not lunged or anything), kid got a fright and dropped her chips, dog ate them. This lead to accusations of my dog mauling his daughter. While that didnt happen, I still ended up apologising and buying more chips but at least did get the chance to explain, and let the girl play with the dog while the new chips were sourced. Much better than wanting to start fights wouldnt you say? I'm not saying me or the dog were angels - she did once bark at a man outside the supermarket to make him drop his hot roast chicken, then started eating it. A trick often repeated when tempting food was near and I was not paying enough attention with various tempting foods. Very clever, yet embarrassing dog.
  23. 18, 25, 30, 92.... All I want to know is why we have to give a jobsworth a hat?
  24. It's quite obvious what is meant - no need to act like you all don't know. There is a cyborb with a tv screen in their back, the council have told to cyborg to move it but a witch has to be involved. The cyborg cant decide if the council not doing anything about the infested cot in their new room which has existed for a year, is a serious or just a mild issue? or Someone has a TV in their back garden which they have been asked by the council to remove, which they intend to do - but are a bit peeved that the council has not sorted out the mould in the room their 1 year old child sleeps in, as the mould has infested their cot - and possibly thinking they should wait until they sort the mould out before worrying about a telly in the garden? I assume it's the first option, and suggest you have bigger problems than worrying about coherence. If it's the second option - yes they should sort it out and keep badgering them about it, but shift the telly anyway - councils are big I doubt the relevant departments are conspiring against you.
