  1. Sure does. "Etymology: Variant of have v., arising through misapprehension of the verb (when occurring as a clitic)" Example... 1773 A. Legh Let. 27 Apr. in S. Elspass et al. Germanic Lang. Hist. (2007) 122 The servant to the old Lady I sho~ld not of thought of after what had past. Or, more recently "1924 A. S. Neill Dominie's Five ii. 31 If Neill had been 'ere, 'e could of told us." Hope I haven't just infringed upon their copyright...
  2. This is apparently nothing new. I've just had a quick look in the O.E.D. and it seems to have been going on since at least 1773! I had always assumed it was a British thing but I've come across it in several US-based forums too. How long before someone remakes the great Howard Hawks/Bogart/Bacall movie and calls it "To Of And Of Not"?
  3. It'll be interesting to see what happens when the "shipping container" bar opens on Shalesmoor. http://publicaccess.sheffield.gov.uk/online-applications/applicationDetails.do?activeTab=summary&keyVal=NRSQ63NYFY000 - 15/02720/FUL | Erection of a three and part four-storey building constructed from shipping containers to create a mixed use development comprising of Restaurants/cafes (Use Class A3), Drinking Establishments (Use Class A4) (including use of external spaces at ground floor and roof top level), Offices (Use Class B1), Assembly and Leisure (Use Class D2) | Land Adjoining 288 To 292 Shalesmoor Sheffield S4 8UL I think this was due to be considered for approval this week but I haven't heard anything about it yet.
  4. The Victorian Society has started a petition to have the memorial re-erected in the new Retail Quarter. There's a bit more information on their web page: http://www.victoriansociety.org.uk/news/sheffields-nelsons-column-must-be-re-erected-in-new-retail-quarter/
  5. Now I know why it's taking so long to get fibre broadband where I live... "The postcode you have entered is either not valid or not in the South Yorkshire area." Long live the Peoples' Republic of S3!
  6. I would guess it's the next phase of the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre. http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/news/nr/next-phase-amrc-expansion-1.461261
  7. There's a "desk based assessment" available on the Archaeology Data Service website at the University of York. http://archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/myads/copyrights?from=2f6172636869766544532f61726368697665446f776e6c6f61643f743d617263682d3930392d312f64697373656d696e6174696f6e2f7064662f6d61747269786172312d33313538315f312e706466 It gives a lot of information. Edited to add it's now Kelham Island Community Childcare. http://www.kelhamislandcc.co.uk/contact

  11. A very entertaining evening. The portrayal of the fairies was brilliant! (And let's not forget the waaaaalllll...)
  12. Surely the Tour de France is the cycling equivalent of the Tour de France? Have people forgotten that stages of the Tour of Britain finished in Sheffield in 2004, 2005 and 2006? (And it started in Rother Valley Park in 2007). It's only fair to let somewhere else have a go!
  13. Found this while browsing the interweb. Sheffield Amphitheatre, Sheffield - 18th July | A Midsummer Night's Dream | 5pm More Info - Phone: 0114 221 1900 | Tickets - This is a 'pay what you can' performance. http://www.peculius.com/handlebards.html Hope the weather's good!
