  1. Hi Carl I think your grandmother was the daughter of my Great Uncle George William Parker. He was the oldest of the Parker Boys [ George, Ernest and Edward] who lived above the baths. George also swam for Yorkshire. If so I have a whole chunk of our family history that I'd love to share. How can we get in contact? Elaine
  2. 'Pop' Shooter - deputy head at Silverdale in the 70's. Knew every kid in the school by their first name. Bought every ex-pupil who was in 'The Hammer and Pincers' a drink at Xmas. Fantastic.
  3. My first posting! My grandparents lived at 113 Chippingham Street [turn up by Banners] when I was a child and my Great Grandfather [John Parker] and Great Uncle [Edward Parker] were both baths manager at Attercliffe baths. My grandfather, who lived above the baths as a youngster, eventually went on to represent Great Britain at swimming at the 1920 Olympics in Antwerp. As a child we were members of Attercliffe swimming club and regularly went every monday and thursday evening. Tommy Bingley taught all the kids in the club to swim and also ran the shop round the corner form the baths. We used to get hot vimto and a quater of boiled spice after the baths.
