  1. oceana are moving into currys just off the moor, they have one in nottingham and its a big, ocean liner themed club with a different night each day of the week. not too dissimilar to kingdom. the idea being that with a club on the moor linking the clubs just down the road (fuel, plug, gatecrasher) then bars and resterarunts will be attracted to the moor along with shops because... john lewis are moving to the fire station on the roundabout just above the road and the idea is that it becomes the anchor store for the area. the low market stores are to be compuilsory purchased and basically the moor is trying to be turned into a french style promenade with good well known name shopping during the day and bars restaurants and clubs during the night. at the top of fargate River Island are moving into the old Dixons and H&M are moving into the building opposite. the kingdom and john lewis buildings (which are also connected by an unused tower bridge) s.c.c are trying to turned into a shopping centre to make more high profile names come to the centre instead of meadowhall, another reason for... meadowhall parking will no longer be free. the council will charge drivers so that they're just as likely to come to the city when its finished. city hall is to be linked with leopold square behind it, creating a complex of hotel and resteraunt and reinjecting some interst into that end of west street, a kind of west one complex. it is hoped after that that the spare retail unites that have just been built near takapuna will be taken up by high profile shops and that west street itself will becme another eccleesall road with shops to match the bars and resteraunts. all this will require parking and so office world is to become a car park, there's another multi storey being built just behind the peace gardens bit (behind the DLA building) and also near coporation. it is also another reason for the massive rise in apartment blocks all around west street, division, corporation, london road, bullworks, station - literally everywhere, the city basically needs the young professional money to stay and be attracted to living in the city centre, hence the money stays. hope that helps...

  3. great in summer, one of the very few places you can actually enjoy sitting outside... but to be honest iv found the service a bit dire (especially cocktail making) slow, and the food a bit plain and overpriced. You pay for the atmosphere and decor though and like I say, definitely a summer haunt.
  4. damn, just as they were getting some really decent alternative nights there with Opus15, Dexter and Quantic Soul Orchestra people
  5. i can vouch for HughieD thats a good indie gig, psh are dark and weird, repomen are brassy and joyous and screaming mimi... well go see alternatively there's another great free gig that night where you can come watch cellarhigh play their first gig back in sheffield since supporting the BigStrides in December, we've been recording since and our EP release is set for February. We're opening for Axis Dynide (rock) and Avangaad (indie) and here's our website and details of the gig: http://www.cellarhigh.com Monday 30/01/06 @ The Howard (free entry) 8:00pm Avangaad, Axis Dynide and Cellarhigh

  10. are you kidding? you really need two god awful 80's music places on west st.? west street live is much better decor as well, adds something different.
  11. I can honestly say, I'd never gone in the Nelson until the other week cause to be honest from the outside I thought it looked a bit crap but was pleasantly surprised when I went in. Good atmosphere, and generally a nice bar. Didn't go downstairs but there wasn't a bad tune played for the whole time we were in there.
  12. ...the what? Oh god I must have been drunk! Too much Moet! Actually I do remember an ice sculpture downstairs, that was quite impressive and a nice touch, along with the whole fake snow and log fires
  13. I know you've said 'student types' but I'd just like to say that the students are mostly away at this point, having left before christmas and term/exams not starting til about Jan22nd. They get alot of blame for things as it is.
  14. sounds like your best bets are: casbah (bar/small club/live venue) leadmill (large venue and club) fuzz club (large venue and club held at sheff uni) boardwalk/dnr (mid-size venues/bars) the grapes (small venue/pub) there's loads of other places but they're a start.
  15. i think thats one of the best comments a band can get to be honest! Thanks we're glad you enjoyed it. I prefer Louis Romegoux doing his acoustic stuff too, thats why I put him on at The Showroom but to be fair to The Feds I haven't seen them for a while. Didn't know you were in DLH though! Have I actually met you? I'm the singer and I've seen DLH a couple of times, the latest was when you headlined at the boardwalk and louis opened (I think avangaad was the other band). Really enjoyed it and you coped really well with your last song going completely wrong! Favourite track though was the ballad your 'other' guy sings, i think he plays guitar and it was the only one he sang lead on. if you have that one on mp3 or something i wouldn't mind having that.
