[/url] Yes some of exchange street is, but the building in question does not infringe on the castle remains it's on the corner of Exchange street. Hambeldon House is right next to where the river sheaf flows and if the building is retained it could make a nice little restaurant on the ground floor with the opened up again river Sheaf. Here is a map of Exchange street and the castle remains http://www.sheffieldhistory.co.uk/forums/index.php?app=core&module=attach§ion=attach&attach_rel_module=post&attach_id=12567 You can clearly see from this map that the building in question is nowhere near the castle remains as it is at the other side of the river Sheaf and bordering Blonk street

There are very few buildings from this period left in this part of town. This part of town just consists of either new buildings or 60's crap. It always important for a city to have a mixture of architecture but if we keep knocking these buildings down we are not gonna have that. This building has been around for a long time since 1925 and has some great features. If this building was knocked down nothing would replace it and we would just be left with a big empty waste land in the city centre and it would prob be like that for years given the current economic climate(and Sheffield has too many empty wastelands in the city centre at the moment). While the building is still there at least there would be a chance of someone occupying it. Yes it does need a bit of a refab to bring it up to date for modern offices, but the people who own the building have know this for years and have done nothing about it. If new build office space in the city centre is not been let how do they expect this to be let?you can't just knock the building down because you can't be bothered to put the investment in to let it out, thats what I call architectural terrorism and also destroying part of Sheffield's heritage.

Yes I know it sits next to the castle market and once the markets are demolished they will open up the castle remains. I just wanted info on the actual building, how do you know that where the building is actually occupies the former site of the castle remains. only a small excavation has been done and that was below the castle market. There is no evidence to suggest that there are castle remains below the building in question.

Hi all, a planning application has gone in to demolish Hambleton House (Former SYPTE)on Exchange Street. This is such a great building and it would be a crime to see it demolished. I'm currently trying to get it listed I just need some historical and architectural info on the building then so I can submit it for a possible listing. Here is a pic of it, although it's a old pic. http://i222.photobucket.com/albums/dd49/maddmaxx500/Sheffield/Crime.jpg

Mr Sheffield replied to cuttsie's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I don't know where people are getting this September start date from for the start of the new market.Because work is due to begin in spring next year along with repaving the top of the moor and a part demolision of block 8(where stone the crows is and the old TK Maxx) and construction of one big retail unit and two smaller shops. -
How fortunes can turn ey, Wigan now in the Prem and Blades in league one.

The IKEA in Sheffield thread
Mr Sheffield replied to StrawDog's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Old Tinsley Wire site is perfect, and just think how much the economy would benefit from an Ikea in Sheffield it would stop money going to places like Leeds and Nottingham. -
HS2 train stop in Sheffield
Mr Sheffield replied to six45ive's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
The transport links are not gonna be good to that site are they and plus I believe that the high speed station should be in Sheffield, it is the hub of South Yorks after all. -
HS2 train stop in Sheffield
Mr Sheffield replied to six45ive's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Just upgrade the track, and re-route in the mean time. The line wouldn't be full of non high speed trains because some of the high speed trains would take the place of the non high speed trains. Your route is better but that too would be massively expensive and it's cutting through a lot of countryside, but as I said i'm no expert and I prob don't know what i'm talking about.
