  1. wrote my name in the ice on the smoking shelter at work. Did a little flower pattern too. Very childish but made me feel happy
  2. There used to be an amateur boxing club at the Institute for Sport down Attercliffe run by Bomber Graham, not sure if its there anymore but it wasn't too crowded and he seemed to be able to give each person plenty of attention.
  3. They were from him I just typed them. He's dyslexic so it just cut out an hour of stress after an hour of physics homework! I might suggest he visits the charity shops on Crookes to see if they have any need for him.
  4. My 14 year old son is about to start his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award and part of this means he needs to volunteer in his local community. Having spoken with him, he wants to do something on a more long term basis and make a difference than the 3 month minimum required for the award. I have written to St Lukes, Bluebell Wood and the local RSPCA on his behalf. Any more ideas of places that a teenager could volunteer?
  5. Not snowing at the moment in Crookes - and may it stay that way please!
  6. I watched both of the programmes and found them incredibly depressing. The way the family units spoke to each other - my dad would have clipped me way before that stage! Despite the fact that she was a foul mouthed racist, the young girl at the end who seemed to have been rescued by her sister did give me some hope! The entire thing was like watching an episode of Shameless without the humour. Awful!
  7. Will it report them for pulling out without indicating - a thumbs up after they've shoved in does not count as indicating! Also - will it report them for stopping in the middle of Broomhill or Crookes to chat to their mate driving the bus coming the other way? I wouldn't want to be a bus driver and I do take my hat of to them having to cope with all the half parked/half abandoned cars around Sheffield, screaming kids, students, traffic etc but sometimes they don't help themselves!
  8. Congratulations Angelsforeva! I was reunited with my dad after years of searching. We met up again when I was 16 and as cliche as it sounds it felt like I made sense, like I'd found the missing piece. I also got uncles, aunts, cousins, a step mum and grandparents I never knew I had. It completely changed my life. It was a real mix of emotions at the time and took a while for the relationships to build but I count myself very lucky indeed. Particularly given that my stepmum was so welcoming and is now one of my best friends. My dad sadly passed away this year but I will cherish forever the twenty years we had together and he will never leave my thoughts. I wish you many years of happiness with your dad and your new family. x
  9. God thats awful. Hope you're okay. Was this at night or during the day?
  10. Hoobastank - The Reason Thin Lizzy - Whisky in the Jar Run - Leona Lewis's version Gravity by Embrace All make me cry like a baby for sad reasons. S Club 7 - Reach makes me be cry for good reasons as I remember singing and dancing to it with my son before he turned into a teenager and I lost him to the dark side!
  11. The Works on Crookes does them for £5 ish. They wax them into a shape that suits your face. It makes your eyes water a bit but they look really good afterwards (once the redness dies down - don't have them done straight before a big night out!!!)
  12. OMG! I hope the drunk we found asleep in the middle of the football pitch had moved by then! He'd have got a shock
  13. The police helicopter has just been hovering over Crookes - damn noisy thing it is!
  14. There are certain elements of the cost of a funeral that are standard - cremation/burial fees, doctors fees, newspaper notices, flowers etc that are all predetermined by those other than the funeral director. The differences occur in choice of coffin, number of pall bearers, number of cars etc. Then its down to choice. Some will be more expensive than others. Just as some stuff is cheaper at Asda than it is at Waitrose. We have unfortunately lost both my dad and grandad this year. 2 very different funerals using 2 different family owned Sheffield funeral directors. My grandad's funeral was a burial at Crookes with the service in the chapel, 2 limousines, 4 bearers, visiting at the chapel of rest, flowers, newspaper notices etc and the bill was around £2,500. My dad's funeral was at Grenoside crematorium, one limousine, 6 bearers, flowers, newspaper notices etc and was £1900. Both were perfectly carried out by caring, friendly staff.
  15. I think its possible given time. It all depends on where in the "getting over them" process each of you are.
