  1. I used to go to the Aquanatal class at Hillsborough, and it was brilliant (my son was born in Dec 08). It was suitable from 16 weeks onwards, I went from then until my due date. I really enjoyed the class, and everyone was very friendly. It was run by a midwife (Pat), and we were able to sit down for a chat after the class each week - sometimes there was a topic, such as infant resuscitation, sometimes it was just a chat and a chance to ask questions. I made friends at this class who I still see now. Overall, I'd thoroughly recommend it!
  2. Sorry to butt in, I've been looking for something similar too. My little boy is 6 months old. Yummy Mummys sounds great - is it new? What do the babies actually do - I can just imagine my little monkey rolling around the place and causing havoc! Thanks
  3. I used to go to Aquanatal at Hillsborough before my son was born in December, and the midwife who ran it said that there's a post-natal aqua-aerobics class at King Edward's Pool, where your baby is looked after by volunteers at the side of the pool....but that's all I can remember (I blame pregnancy brain)! No idea what day/time it is, and was wondering if anyone here knows. Alternatively, does anyone have a recommendation for any other post-natal exercise classes where you can bring your baby? Thanks
  4. I'm interested in getting the Natal Hypnotherapy CDs, as my sister used them and said they were great, but they're really expensive (£50 for the set) - as we're trying to economise, I wondered if anyone knew of anywhere I could buy/borrow these from more cheaply? I've tried the library, but they don't have them, and the ones on ebay are just as expensive. I'm sure they'd be worth it if we end up having to pay full price, I'm just trying to see if there's any way I can save some money (this pregnancy thing is getting expensive!) Thanks for any ideas Kat
  5. I think it depends on when you had your early scan - I had one at 8 weeks, and they told me then that because they'd been able to "date" the baby I wouldn't get a 12 week scan. When I went for my 12 week antenatal appointment I asked them if I could have a scan and they said no (I was hoping to persuade them!). They said that the dating scan is officially any time between 8-12 weeks, so if your early scan was before 8 weeks you should still get another one. Hope that helps Kat
  6. Maybe it's a temporary fault with the line? 0114 2268454 worked for me, but that was about a month ago. Not sure what else to suggest - is it possible to ring the antenatal clinic at Jessops in general, and ask them for a number? Kat
  7. Our experience with Letwise has also been rubbish. We moved into our current property 2 years ago, and the lawn had been left in a complete state by the previous tenants (2 feet high weed jungle!), and despite frequent phone calls/ letters from us they still haven't done anything about it (a professional gardener looked at it and said the only option is complete re-turfing, as it's 90% weeds and very little grass). They are incredibly slow to react to any problems, such as when we had water pouring down the wall from a fault in a pipe. The owner, Mark, is also very patronising - when I complained once that he had given people keys to our house and they had been round without our knowledge (completely breaking the tenancy agreement), he said that I was "splitting hairs". My advice would be to avoid them if at all possible!
  8. hi, I live in Oughtibridge, am 11 weeks pregnant and am trying to find out about antenatal classes. I had a hospital appointment today, and they said I needed to book asap and they run a variety of classes at Jessops (e.g. 5 evenings, or a whole weekend etc). When I rang the number they gave me, the person said that because I live out here I should go to a local class instead, and I needed to talk to my midwife. So I rang the midwife, who said I don't need to book it until 20 weeks, and they just do a single day here, but cover the same things. Has anyone had any experience of either the Jessops classes or one in this area? Do they really cover as much in just one session, or would I be better still going to the Jessops one? I was hoping to be able to have a series of classes, like they offer at Jessops, so it would be more likely that I would get to know some of the other people (and maybe make some friends, as I don't know many people here). Thanks, Kat
  9. Maybe try going to one of the exercise classes at Ponds Forge - they have a range of different types and don't cost too much. I went to a class there when I first moved to Sheffield a few years ago (after finishing Uni), and made some friends that way. Kat
  10. I'm 9 weeks pregnant with my first! Been feeling the nausea more over the last few days - keep making poor hubby go out to buy whatever it is I think I can manage to eat at that moment (which changes about every 10 mins!). Kat
  11. She should have received some Speech and Language Therapy through the NHS as part of her treatment. If you/her/her family feel she needs extra therapy on a private basis, you can find a registered private Speech and Language Therapist through the website of the Association of Speech and Language Therapists in Private Practice: http://www.helpwithtalking.com. All of those therapists will be fully qualified and registered. Hope that helps Kat
  12. Any wind, brass or percussion players are welcome to join the Steel City Concert Band - percussion particularly needed! Current members range in age from teenagers to 60s, everyone welcome. We rehearse on Tuesday evenings from 7.30-9.30 at the Scout Headquarters on Trippet Lane in town, and play several concerts a year (last year this included playing at Chatsworth twice, Chesterfield bandstand, and Whitby bandstand). If anyone would like more details, let me know
  13. I was wondering if anyone knows what the following roads are like in Stocksbridge and Deepcar?: Hills Road Patterson Court Glebelands Road Laburnum Grove We're currently renting in Oughtibridge but can't afford to buy there - we've come across some cheap houses in the above areas but weren't sure what it would be like to live there. Also wondered if anyone knows if there are likely to be any problems with racism in those areas (husband is half oriental). Thanks for any help!
  14. Just wondered if anyone knows how to contact the Adult Education service in Sheffield? I'm trying to find a cheap art class to do in the evenings and reckon they might run one, but I've not had any luck searching the web for contact details. I'm moving to Sheffield in a couple of weeks, to live with my boyfriend, but won't know anyone else (scary!), so I thought this might be a good way of meeting people. I'd also be interested in a yoga or pilates class (though I've never tried it), if anyone knows of any beginner's classes. Thanks
