After reading the article in last night's Star it felt good to know that I was not the only one to be scammed by COMPASS MOBILITY. I also was cold called and pressured into buying a scooter that did not meet my needs.All in all it has cost me £5000 for a scooter that is still not meeting my needs. Following this I was scammed yet again by British Mobility for services which did not take place. These experiences has taken away my trust in these rogue traders.

Mrs Elaine Smith has asked me to pass on her grateful thanks to all those who paid their respects on her husband's death. She says she is very touched and amazed that so many of us took the time to express our sympathies. She will always treasure the printouts I sent to her as she says they give her comfort. No, we lived next door to the fishpond before it turned onto the crescent. Turner was the family name I had three brothers, Carl, Alan Brian and myself Mavis. I remember all the names you have just mentioned. I am now 75, Alan sadly deceased,Brian 67 and Carl 77. We all went to Stand House, my brothers went on to Prince Edwards and I went to Carfield.

I have not been a forum user for very long but during the short time, I have spoken to many friends old and new. The one that stands out most is Albert T Smith. Sadly I have just received news that he passed away January 24th. He will be badly missed - he had a wit and charm that appealed to most poeple. Hi Ennis, I'm so glad you remember my family. Sadly Alan passed away in 1995, very young 56, cancer. I still miss him. I am in contact with the Kings via the Forum and private emails. Dorothy married an ex-boy friend of mine and they are living on the Norfolk Broads-still happily married. I live alone in Heeley and getting about on a mobility scooter. The last time I saw any of your family was when Cyril was retiring from the Police Force. He was 45 and I was just starting work there (Sheffield Police Headquarters, Snig Hill) as a cleaner. Hi there, I knew both Freds. I am 75 so Fred senior was a little older than me. My brothers, Alan (sadly deceased) and Brian Turner were mates of Fred junior. In fact I have a picture of hoim on my bedroom wall. It includes Gilbert Benn as well, all in their kiss-me-quick cowboy hats at the seaside. Regards Tatty

Do you remember the Turner brothers, Carl, Alan, and Brian. They were always up Woodthorpe Close, usually throwing stones at me, their little sister. Fred Hallam is one name I remember. I too have a photo of the gang on a day trip to the seaside.

No, Albert, I can't remember any tea or coffee handouts - perhaps it was because we were just kids, plus the fact that we were trying to pass unnoticed and keeping our heads down. I can vaguely remember the fire.

Myself and my elder brother was in the queue for coalite every Saturday morning. We did not buy it for home use but for people who had already had their allocation and we were payed twopence to get another one for them. We could earn as much as sixpence each before the sellers spotted that we had been round before. I was only saying to Sapper the other day, "I wonder if he's been barred?" Welcome back Albert it's been very quiet without you. Have a look at the Mobility Scooter thread and you will know what I have been up to.

The firm I bought my scooter from has fetched it back and replaced the battery, plus a full overall. I made a mistake in the first place I should have rung the insurance firm as they have a 24 hour recovery service. I've not had much luck this week, the second day I took it out, after it had come out of hospital, I tried to do a turn on an incline and me and the machine went a**e over t*t bang in front of a bus queue. A 75 year old doing wheelies and baring her all is not a pretty sight. However, everone was so helpful which was gratefully appreciated. I got away with a few cuts and bruises but it learnt me a valuable lesson.

Many thaks to Puddinburner and Plain Talker for your advice. The firm came and took my scooter back yesterday. They say it is a faulty battery and it is being returned today - keeping fingers crossed. I will certainly remember the phone number 101 if it happens again. I am also getting in touch with the Wicker Mobility shop. Again many thanks for taking the time to reply

I have had my mobility scooter for six weeks and a couple od days ago I had the misfortune to break down on East bank Road - faulty battery. I rang the firm I bought it from and they could not send anyone out to help me. I was lucky enough to be rescued,after sitting for an hour in the blazing sun. My query is does anyone know of a taxi firm who will carry these machines. I have rang eighteen taxi firms and no-one will carry them. I am 75 and can hardly walk otherwise I would have left the scooter where it was. Any suggestions will be appreciated as I am now afraid to go very far in case this happens again.
