  1. Yes Metalman, This name is unusual. I think it originates from Ireland where her grandmother came from. The original Robena/Ravina disappeared after entering a convent in 1881.!! I believe the Rovina that I am searching for had two sons. If I could find those I would be delighted. They would have been born after 1916, but access to records are a bit thin on the ground after 1910. Donald/Desmond Breedon is a possibilty, according to another cousin who had more contact with this part of our family. Margaret
  2. The Rosetta you mention, I have just found out, is the daughter of Rovina's brother William Woodruff. This family definitely link. Do you know how many children they had? Her daughter Rosetta hasn't been too forthcoming on her siblings!! (Quote from Lazarus) I remember Rosie I was her supervisor at George Butlers for a year or so, she was o.k. but I didnt know that she had passed away, Im sorry to hear that. (Unquote) Rosie, as you call her, died about 2000. Margaret
  3. I have now found that Rovina married Walter Breedon in 1916 in Sheffield. Any help to find children of this marriage would be great! Margaret
  4. Hi Trekker, Thanks for that but, as Pietro says, I don't think they are the ones. But the links that Peitro gave to me were very good and gave an indication of which ones they might have been. Margaret
  5. Hi Pietro and Cycleracer. The ones that Cycleracer describes in Ecclesfield sound similar to the ones I visited. Would Ecclesfield be near to where I visited? As you can see, I don't live in Sheffield, but my parents were born and brought up there, so I am not too familiar with the areas. Have replied to private message to Pietro. Many thanks, Margaret
  6. Hi, Does anyone remember Alms Houses in Sheffield around 1930/40. I went to visit my father's aunt there when I was very young, but can't remember which district they were in. I know we caught a tram from Heeley and changed in city centre and they were on the left on a hill (surprise). Bungalow type buildings around a grass square. The family lived in Spring Street, Melinda Street in the 1880/90's so I am thinking that they would be on that side of city. Margaret
  7. Carol, As I do not live in Sheffield, I only visited it as a child, I do not know where the district Wybourn is. Is it near Heeley? This is where the family were about 1921/25. These people you mention could be grand/greatgrand children of William Woodruff, but if they were related to Rovina, they would not be called Woodruff!! Rovina was a granddaughter of William through Frederick Woodruff. Thank you for replying however, and I am interested in all the children/grandchildren of William through Frederick, Henry, Loftus and George. Hope that one day I will have some luck. Regards, Margaret
  8. Thanks Timbuck, I will go and look at that site now. I wasn't able to locate him on that census, so may be that could shed some light. Hope your memory comes back later!! but don't worry if it doesn't. I find it hard enough to remember my friends parents names too!! Margaret
  9. Hi Timbuck, Do you happen to remember what his parents names were?!Long shot!! Margaret
  10. Still need help with this one!! Margaret
  11. Hi Deano, Try the site http://www.genesconnected.com Click on Records Board and post your search there. It is part of the Friends United site but concentrates only on family history, plus lots of help and info for us researching our relatives. I know there are Canadian people on this site who are looking for the relatives over here, and some of them have given out good info to people tracing relatives in Canada. Best of luck. It is a very friendly and helpful site. Margaret
  12. Looking for descendants of Theresa Ibbotson married to William Swift in Sheffield 1871. Their children were Annie Elizabeth Swift, Theresa Swift, Sarah Ann Swift, William Swift and Ernest Swift. All born Sheffield from 1873 to 1885. Theresa's father was Henry Ibbotson. Mother's name Mary? Please contact me if you are descended from this line. The eventually married into the Woodruff family. Thank you. Margaret
  13. Looking for descendants of Rovina born Sheffield 1896. She was my father's eldest sister. I believe she married and had two sons. Rovina and her sister Ada are the only two children I have not found whilst compiling my family tree. I believe she lived in Heeley in the 1940's and 1950's. If anyone is related to this lady, please get in touch with me. Thank you, Margaret
