  1. I remember Susan Dawes and Susan Thomas who lived somewhere around Rutland Road and my dad used to work at the brickyard as a joiner on Rutland Road.
  2. I remember vaguely Mrs Hutchinson, I think she was our teacher. Two of my class mates were called Valerie Barker who married a footballer, Cynthia Pearce(who now lives in America). I think there was a Pamela Arnold as well. The old memory is coming back slowly. I can't remember any of the names you gave, we may haver been in a different class.
  3. Try Attercliffe Spiritualist Church on Bold Street, just below Freemans. They have open circle on Mondays 7.30 to 8.30, you may get a message. On Wednesday 7.30 to 8.30 they have a speaker who gives messages to various people in the audience. They are a great bunch of people, nothing to be scared of and the lights are left on. They don't charge on Mondays but it costs a £1 for wednesday.
  4. My aunt and Uncle (Bownes) had a grocers shop on Rutland Road in the 50's and 60's. Sugar was sold in blue bags, and butter was in big blocks which were cut to whatever weight you wanted.
  5. I spoke to Pat 2 weeks ago in Stocksbridge. She lived with her mum in Wharncliffe side for a few years. Her mum died a few years ago. I don't know her address.
  6. I remember it well.We liverd at Parkwood Springs at the time. Slates flying all over, one came through the glass in the front door, just missed my mother who was going upstairs. Everyone was wearing crash helmets outside. Worried about the gas tanks on Farfield Rd going up. When we got to Chaucer School part of the roof had blown off, so we were sent home. My husband who lived opoposite the gas tanks slept all the way through the gale.
  7. yes I attended 1964 to 65, unfortunately I can't remember any names of class mates. Can you jog my memory please.
  8. Hi Peter its Maria here, very flattered to know that you had a crush on me. I am still friends with Molly Moody and keep in touch. Didn't know she had a crush on you though. I remember Carol Wakelin, Lynne Brammer, Susan Fisher, Peter Beale Joan Wharton and others too many to mention.I have been happily married for 38 years to Robert Haslam who lived on Farfield Road.
  9. Hi Julie, we lived next door to you at No. 38 my mum and dad were called Maria and Leslie Astill. When you left Debachuas moved in Paul, Lynne and I can't remember the other brothers name. When the houses were pulled down my mum moved to Firshill Estate.
  10. Hi Katrina - I have just put a new thread on named Hillfoot School 1954 to 1960, this was the time I was at Hillfoot then I moved to Chaucer School. My sister Evelyn started Hillfoot in 1956 to 1962. Can you remember Mr Turner, He had a dimple in his chin, and Miss Buxton. I can't remember any more names, can you jog my memory. I used to live on Pickering Road, used to call for Susan Fisher and Lyn Brammer and we used to walk to school. Down the station steps, over railway bridge where we used to stop and get covered in steam if there was a train going by. Down past Farfield Road onto Hoyland Road, past the Coal sheds and then on to Hillfoot School. I remember Carol Wakelin, Peter Beale, Joan Wharton, Kevin Rigby and Robert Haslam who I have been married to for 38 years, to name but a few.
  11. Mr Turner, Miss Buxton can't remember any other teachers names. I used to live on Pickering Road. We used to go down the station steps to school, over the railway bridge where we used to stand and let the steam cover us all as the train went past, then down some more steps, onto Farfield Road, then Hoyland Road, past the coal yard and on to Hillfoot School. It was alright going down the station steps, but they seemed endless when going up them. I remember calling for Susan Fisher and Lynn Brammer who lived on Wallace Road and we walk ed down together to school. I remember the crates of milk left out in the sun all day (never liked to drink milk on its own since that time). There used to be a coal heap that we all used to climb on which fed the boilers. Does anyone else remember those times.
  12. Hi Cliff, I am Maria Astill, Lindsay (Paul) Astill's sister, yes I will remember you to Paul. Are you relaqted to Susan Shaw.
