  4. does anybody on here remember the swop shop on staniforth rd in the early 70s it sold anything u could imagine as kids we would scrounge anything outof our houses and take it down there 2 raise sum spending money it was on the corner and next 2 them was a fabric shop then jennings hardware and at the end of the block at the corner of woodbourn rd was was mr anthonys shop where most folk got there gen groceries and u could also have a slate there which i remember my parents sending me down and often been told" 2 put it on slate while thurs"which was pay day for my dad happy days
  5. after watching yet another shambles at hillsbro yesterday i thought it mighnt be interesting 2 get peoples views on the ken bates situation having watched the owls 4 35 years i have seen some good sides and bad but i have 2 say this is the worst by a long way no skill no passion no idea a lot of people say dave allen is a sheffield lad and a wed ite thats all wel and good but is he really capable of taking wed forward i think not love him or hate him kb has the exp and football knowledge 2 bring in people from an higher level ie a manager and coach which in turn will attract better players the money issue with bates is unclear but can the owls really get any worse on or off the pitch
  6. has anyone seen the bullet holes in the front and back of the wicker archers my dad showed me when i was a kid and u can actully see all the shrapnel and bullet holes in the walls as u approach the bridge coming from town towardsthe wicker if u look under the bridge on the left hand side u can see where a failed bomb becme stuck but didnt go off my parents told me this attack was o a large convoy of petrol and oil if this had exploded the whole town and a lot of war proucing arms factorys would have been destroyed
  7. during the past couple of years the generall trend is 2 milder wetter winters then spring and summer generally showery and cool the current weather will last at least 8 moredays before it starts2 settle down low pressure over the uk at this time of year leads2 very unstable air and thunderstorms inland because the sun is getting quitestrong at this time of year causing massive convection and strong showers as 4 the global warming theory it actually has a negative feedback which isthe warmer the planet the more evaporation from the oceans this in turn causes more cloud cover which cutsout the sun causing a cooling also the moreevapration u get means an increase in precipitation stick that extra rain in the poles and u have an increase in snowcover which in turn reflects the suns heat ie u have an ice age set up
  8. when i lived on attercliffe in the early 70s there was a craze 4 getting prams ripping the wheels off making a wooden frame with a bolted piece on the front they usually had 2 large pram wheels on the back and small ones on the front which were turned with a rope on either side there was usually a bit of old carpet nailed 2 it 2 form a seat everybody seemed 2 have one and they weregreat fun having said that they were quite dangerous at the same time as this there was a craze 4 clackers remember them 2 balls on ropes which u flicked up and down at great speed which was ok until they hit your rist and brought tears 2 your eyes funny all these dodgy and sometimes dangerous things but everybody wanted them or was it just us on cliff
