  1. Elysium Starts well but devolves into robocop lite. Worth the admission though just for the scene between Damon and a robotic parole officer. If you thought telephone answering systems were annoying just wait to you have to deal with government robots.
  2. Amazon have the Pro version available for pre order for 49.99 (Upgrade from any Windows XP or later). http://www.amazon.co.uk/Windows-Pro-Upgrade-Edition-Vista/dp/B008GRKGXK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1345979545&sr=8-1 It seems quite a good price, wonder what the catch is?
  3. Interesting that it saves programs in a standard format. The most promising seems to be the new Samsung series 6 TVs which have a usb pvr option that works from the EPG and will operate when the TV is in standby. Limited information about format and whether HD though.
  4. Am looking to upgrade my TV with one with Freeview HD and a USB pvr facility. Couple of questions, know someone with a Panasonic which has it but that limits the playback to that particular TV (not even another of the same model). Is that typical? Also if the TV has freeview HD will does the USB typically only record in SD?
  5. Prometheus Really enjoyed it. Despite a few plot holes and occasional gratuitous dramatics, it makes you think about what is happening and the underlying questions. Two qualities the seem lacking in much recent scifi. It is also beautifully designed and shot. An admirer of the first two films, I am so glad it was made and hope he does another.
  6. The latest Storage Options Scroll have got Android 4.0 http://www.dabs.com/products/storage-options-scroll-excel-7--capacitive-touch-screen-android-4-0-823X.html?q=android&src=16 They have capacitive screens and are 99.00 from Dabs above
  7. Thanks, it's a ZTE MF626. Looked for the software but just firmware downloads from secondary sites. Will check into your suggestion of the APN
  8. Has anyone used this? I am looking at a TV with the feature: http://www.dabs.com/products/sharp-32--lcd-tv-with-freeview-and-usb-recording-7ZX1.html?src=3 Will it just record the current program or is it likely it can be used to do timer recordings?
  9. Anyone done this? If I unlock my T-Mobile dongle and put in a Vodafone SIM, does the Vodafone software need to be seperately installed?
  10. Anyone got one of these? The auto lock is fine if out and about but irritating at home Is there a setting to disable it as have Googled and it seems not (apart from custom applications).
  11. Pina (2011) Dragged to this by a friend who needed someone to go with. Directed by Wim Wenders, about the German choreographer Pina Bausch. It drew me in, really enjoyed it, the interviews with the dancers themselves were so moving and (for the first time) gave me an understanding of interpretive dance Remembered I loved the feel of Wenders 1991 SF Until the End of the World
  12. Just finished an intro to geology and am interested to know if there are any local sites that are good for fossils. Also best places to try some rock identification Cheers
  13. It looks like most of the 47 stores that Asda will not rebrand of the 194 will be Morrisons or Haldanes: http://www.soultsretailview.co.uk/2011/01/13/asdas-sale-of-surplus-netto-stores-who-gets-what-in-the-north-east/
  14. Thanks, shame about Ubuntu not going with it. It seems to need a reasonable box for sensible performance at higher resolutions.
  15. I've always used Knome rather than KDE with Linux. At a recent computer fair I was told many do not like the touch screen approach of 3.0 as it requires a lot of mouse movement if used conventionally. Has anyone tried it (it is just available for SUSE and Fedora at the moment) and what do you think?
  16. How do they compare, are the laser mice really just for graphics work? Is there a notiicable difference in general use? (apart from usability on reflective surfaces)
  17. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-12546782 The 3 day Lib Dem conference in Sheffield from March 11th is going to cost SY police 2M including the setting up of a special anti protest unit. They cancelled the previous one in London due to possible disruption.
  18. A sign of the times that this year's judging panel of the Man Booker prize are being issued with Ebook readers. I guess within a few years those wonderful second hand book stores will be gone. Some of my best reads have been found in them, will it be so? and how long?
  19. I had one (Ebay) and sold it. It was fine but there was no message facility and it did not give notifications of contact requests.
  20. Just doing my books and need to know the price of the First weekly bus ticket for the period April 2008 to May 2009. Tried Google but only thing I found was that it increased by 1.00 in Jan 2009
  21. I need about a 3' section to complete a job but my usual place off Crookesmoor Road has stopped stocking them. Anyone know anywhere else?
  22. Just learnt that you can't print directly from an Android tablet, it needs to use an application on a PC. Perhaps 3.00 has added it but the list of differences so far from 2.3 is: - Browser can display same as in PC - Drag & Drop - Copy & Paste easier, especially in highlight text - Convenience in reading digital books through Google eBooks - Convenience in the open G-mail by next tampilany Tab - Better display for YouTube
  23. I was looking at these at the recent computer fair. There was a 7" or 8" one with a capacitive screen for 150.00. The trader said the capacitive screen was necessary for multi touch. Is that a big feature? or will one of the 99.00 ones with a resistive screen do me? Some seem to be described as 'high sensitivity'. Also is there much difference between 2.1 and 2.2? I have also seen new laptops that dual boot Windows 7 with Android. Can I install Android on my Acer XP lappy?
