  1. Think so - I've re-entered the product key and then it went back on line to check itself out. As it was working fine, I removed the CD from the drive, carried on with my work closed outlook down, went to reload outlook and now it's playing silly b's
  2. Both are 64 bit. Have got it to work but after closing it down, it comes back with the same error message about only being valid for currently installed products - this is doing my head in
  3. thanks for advice; how do I get that set up? What if I dont want it to connect to my email account and just want to use the address book/diary etc.
  4. now getting past the loading page and now getting the error message: cannot display folder; cannot connect to server. And separate error message: paths specified for file C:\users\ddd\desktop\mailstuff\ddd\outlook.pst is not valid. Help on getting this sorted very gratefully appreciated. tia.
  5. Using 64 bit, it was working fine until I had my recent netgear probs otherwise everything else seems to work as it should.
  6. Error message reads Action only valid for products that are currently installed. So I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office but am still getting that error message. Then somewhere along the line another error message says cant find .pst files so I found a load backed up elsewhere on my hard drive, copied and pasted them to the Outlook file in my Documents file but still no joy. Any ideas and advice gratefully received. Ta
  7. Join the debate! Find out what’s going on and have your say to help shape our Planet. How can we secure a safe and adaptable water supply to meet all of our needs? (This may include the need to grow more of our food locally.) Open to everyone – no knowledge or experience assumed. Hosted by DLA Piper LLP, 1 St Paul’s Place, Sheffield S1 2JX (Entrance between Café Nero and Café Rouge outside the Peace Gardens) Registration 1.30pm for a 1.40pm start on Thursday, 22nd September 2011 Meet world-renowned engineers, passionate about their work, keen to meet like-minded people to debate the issues using Crowd Wise* – developed by nef so that together we can all make a difference. Contributing Engineers: Bryan Penny, Chartered Principal Engineer, Civil Engineering Water Team, Mott MacDonald Louise Pettinger, Civil Engineer, Water Team, Mott MacDonald Ian Stevens, Asset Policy Manager, Yorkshire Water David Wilkes, Associate Director, Arup and President CIWEM 2011/12 Professor Will Zimmerman, Biochemical Dynamics Systems, The University of Sheffield Facilitators: Perry Walker, Fellow, New Economics Foundation (nef) Wendy Stern, Founder, Action for Involvement To find out what you’ve got to say about our Planet and its vital resources, over the next few months we’re turning the spotlight on four critical themes affecting all of us: Water, Transport, Manufacturing and Construction/Housing. Kicking off with WATER, we’ll use Crowd Wise* (developed by nef to help us reach consensus on potentially tricky issues) to look at how we can secure and manage a safe water supply to meet all of our needs. How can we protect our planet’s most vital resource: water? Should we manage water which flows from one region to another and is unequally distributed across the country? Have we got flood control under control? How can we make better use of rain water? Do we need to use less water and if so, how do we make it happen? Should we move to where there is sufficient water to support our population? What would make you support or oppose such projects? * Crowd Wise is a tested, flexible and participative way of taking shared decisions by combining consensus voting and constructive dialogue to overcome differences, find common ground and reach more productive outcomes. It can be used for a wide range of issues or decisions such as affecting priorities, allocating budgets or responding to consultations. Booking essential as places are limited. 8. Thanks for your suggestions. I've done all of that. Had to use a short ethernet cable to reset. It's got an internal wireless card and an aerial. Nothing else connects into the back apart from the necessary cables.
  9. I've done a malware check and although no malicious files were detected, this problem is still persisting
  10. wouldnt touch 3 - and heard loads of complaints about charging.
  11. hi stimpy thanks for your suggestions. I'm using google chrome. How do I flush the DNS?
  12. The gmail error message reads: Mail features have failed to load due to an internet connectivity problem. If this problem persists try reloading the page, or using the basic HTML version. Both of which I've done which sometimes helps but more often than not does nothing very much.
  13. That's what I've been doing and would be extremely grateful for advice and suggestions as to where to start. This is an intermittent issue which has occasionally resolved itself by switching the whole lot off for a few minutes and then reconnecting and re-booting my desktop. Very oddly, it seems to take exception to loading my Gmail accounts, although it also has to be said that it's slow on loading Sheffield Forum and other websites. Very very gratefully
  14. Thanks for your replies. Finally got back on line. and very oddly my netbook works fine but my desktop which I really need to use with my email accounts takes for ever to download webpages for anything. Cant figure out what's going on and I've even had some professional chap come look at it. It's really frustrating
  15. and then, of course, your contract will be governed by US law which you may want to think about as it'll be easier to deal with a UK supplier or an ISP governed by UK law unless of course that's not an issue for you.
  16. Need help with my Netgear 1000 router setup - out of warranty which wont funtion with desktop but quite perversely will with netbook. Been in touch with Netgear which couldnt be fagged to do owt and referred me to Microsoft on the basis that there may be update with the ethernet cable!!! ISP is Pipex which says they dont support this router and suggested I might like to buy a new router - it's only a year old for goodness sake. I've also got a sitecom thingy which worked on another desktop but not this one - could be that the other desktop is on xp rather than win7 and I've used my ISP security key and netbook security pin which are both rejected. Thanks for reading and would be very grateful for any help to get this sorted. now been able to use sitecom dongle on desktop to log in to netgear's webpage for the router but getting an error message: 105 (net::err_name_not_resolved): unable to resolve the server's DNS address.
  17. Horses for courses. all I can say is i've had excellent service from that particular store - cant speak for any of the others as I dont shop with them.
  18. As title. I'd appreciate some help with reconfiguring my Netgear N150 router which is out of software warranty and Netgear want a one-off fee of £30 to help and I reckon their email service is worse than snail mail. My landline is Pipex and I think there are also going to be issues there. Very gratefully
  19. carphonewarehouse ecclesall road branch - they're really on the nail
  20. Alistair Lofthouse Print & Design also on Sharrowvale Road, just across from Hickmott Road.
  21. Many thanks for this suggestion; I'm delighted to say this is now sorted and your suggestion of shiply is also greatly appreciated.
  22. would any of these be suitable for transporting a chair from London to Sheffield as I've been quoted an absolute fortune by some companies. I was actually wondering whether it would be possible to go down by train, pick it up and then take it back by train - is there likely to be any problem with my doing that apart from feeling self-conscious. Thanks for reading.
  23. thanks for your advice. What I really wanted to know was more about this chip technology and the complications which it can cause plus the pros/cons of the different manufacturers or are are they all much of a muchness and its a case of pays your money and takes your choice?
  24. Speaking as an owner of a tablet, If I had to choose between a tablet and a laptop, I'd go for the latter any day. Tablets are useful if you need to do write on screen, standing up in a busy street or shop when you're interviewing people or for other similar tasks. If you dont need to do that then I cant see it being worth the extra costs.
  25. I want to buy an all in one photo printer and want to have a better idea of the technology involved before buying. I was told that the Brother 315W all in one is better than the others because there's no chip technology to go wrong. Would appreciate some advice on this and the benefits of having chip technology. there are a load on here as well http://www.johnlewis.com/Electricals/Printing/Printing/View+all+printers/All-In-One+(printer)/-/Printer+Features/443/0/0/ProductCategory.aspx#&&/wEXAgURU2VhcmNoRXZlbnRUYXJnZXQFH1NlYXJjaFJlc3VsdHNHcmlkMV9VcGRhdGVQYW5lbDEFE1NlYXJjaEV2ZW50QXJndW1lbnQFXVNSVC9FbGVjdHJpY2Fscy9QcmludGluZy9QcmludGluZy9WaWV3K2FsbCtwcmludGVycy80NDMvMC8xL1Byb2R1Y3RDYXRlZ29yeS5hc3B4P2E9MzExMDFfMTA3NlewWdA98yvjOwtgfAbiRRrwZhw+ but they dont sell Brother and as JLP like to think they're leading with the best kit, I'm a bit surprised that they dont sell the Brother. But they've also got what seems to be some fairly good deals on the Canon. Thanks for help
