  1. various friendly societies around - you'll need to be a member first thought, but I'd start looking at your outgoings to see what you can slash, cut and shave - it's surprising how much you can save and how little you really need.

Best investment you can make is a book by Alvin Hall: What not to spend. http://www.amazon.co.uk/What-Not-Spend-Alvin-Hall/dp/0340836024 but dont buy it new!

dont go shopping, cut groceries down to bare necessities. without wishing to assume but drinking and smoking are two rather expensive habits; so is going out on Saturday night some people tell me they can easily drop £100 on a mate's night out followed up with a meal. Every weekend that's £5200 for one night and £10K for two nights!!!

  2. The fashion shopping in Sheffield is very poor whereas in London it is brilliant and the trains to get to London are rubbish from Sheffield. I'd be prepared to sacrifice this though for Sheffields close proximity to beautiful countryside and cheaper prices in terms of eating out, travel etc. as long as i visit London often enough to get my fix of proper fashion shopping.

that's a load of rubbish. Trains every 30 minutes and takes 2 hours. Great for quiet space to get on with work or whatever.

as an addendum, I'm very sad to say that a regular source of income due to excessive delays has dried up because the railway trains have - dare I say it - are generally now so reliable and punctual possibly also even in the winter with the wrong type of leaves or snow :D

And would I move back to London - I can think of more good reasons to stay here than to move back there, probably all of which have previously been covered by everyone else. I disagree with comments about Burngreave as there have also been murders in Eccleshall and Netheredge. A friend used to live by Burngreave and never came to any harm so it's really horses for courses. More trees and parks out by Hunters Bar.

To find out what you’ve got to say about our Planet and its vital resources, over the next few months we’re turning the spotlight on four critical themes affecting all of us: Water, Transport, Manufacturing and Construction/Housing.

Kicking off with WATER, we’ll use Crowd Wise* (developed by nef to help us reach consensus on potentially tricky issues) to look at how we can secure and manage a safe water supply to meet all of our needs.

    • How can we protect our planet’s most vital resource: water?
    • Should we manage water which flows from one region to another and is unequally distributed across the country?
    • Have we got flood control under control?
    • How can we make better use of rain water?
    • Do we need to use less water and if so, how do we make it happen?
    • Should we move to where there is sufficient water to support our population?
    • What would make you support or oppose such projects?

    * Crowd Wise is a tested, flexible and participative way of taking shared decisions by combining consensus voting and constructive dialogue to overcome differences, find common ground and reach more productive outcomes. It can be used for a wide range of issues or decisions such as affecting priorities, allocating budgets or responding to consultations.

  4. "Shiply" is an on line auction site, where you list what you want shifting and wait for the quote's to come in, I can recomend this way if your not wanting it delivered tomorrow.

Many thanks for this suggestion; I'm delighted to say this is now sorted and your suggestion of shiply is also greatly appreciated.

  5. would any of these be suitable for transporting a chair from London to Sheffield as I've been quoted an absolute fortune by some companies. I was actually wondering whether it would be possible to go down by train, pick it up and then take it back by train - is there likely to be any problem with my doing that apart from feeling self-conscious. Thanks for reading.

  6. strongly recommend the Feldenkrais Method - got me up and running about quite literally with the only medical prospect being anti-inflammatories followed up by steroids. The method was developed by a chap called Moshe Feldenkrais who suffered some kind of knee injury - I think through playing sports - but you can check that out on Wikipedia or via http://www.simplymoving.info - they're nothing to do with me, but I'd happily recommend them based on their results

  7. Does anyone know where I can buy Good Oil Hemp seed oil. I was told Tesco, Sainsburys etc all sell it but Tesco's only sold Yors Oil - a Yorkshire original rapeseed and according to the lable is grown in the beautiful county of Yorkshire using traditional methods. etc etc etc. But rapeseed oil is NOT hemp seed oil which is what I want to buy.

    Thanks for reading

  8. As an addendum to the previous post, the Court is apparently obliged to give the defendant in the case the benefit of the doubt.

I have seen this personally when the defendant I was prosecuting alleged (ie lied in court) that they had not received any of the court's correspondence.

Mysteriously the defendant was able to write a letter on the last working day before the Court deadline and was able to hand deliver it to the Court prior to the deadline simply to excuse their failure to acknowledge any of the court's correspondence including my claim form which they had allegedly not received.

Nobody, including the Judge believed the Defendant but there was no option but to give the defendant the benefit of the doubt all the way down the line.

  9. I'm looking for the most cost effective way for a charity to update their database of 550 people who only gave their mobile numbers. Assuming each call to a mobile takes c. 5 mins, it will take c. 3000 minutes +/- 250 minutes to call all the mobiles on their database.

TMobile’s sim only contract offers 600 minutes @ £20.00 or 900 minutes £25.00 for a 30 day month and seems to be the best value for money on the market but they will only be able to use 250 or 550 minutes depending on the contract because the first 350 minutes are required for other purposes.

I’m also evaluating Skype which charges £0.144 ex VAT and £0.166 inc VAT respectively to all UK mobile networks; therefore 1 x 5 min mobile skype call = £0.83 inc VAT; 550 calls x 5 mins @83p/call =£456.50

    900 minute sim only mobile contract = £25/month - £15 of SIM contract = £10/month, ie 550 minutes/month with a total cost over 5-6 months for SIM only contract £50 - £60.

Are there any better, ie cheaper deals for calling mobile phones?

Thanks in anticipation of your help.

  10. If it's not in writing forget about it because they will lie about what was or wasnt said. The Judge may also turn a deaf ear to things. Best to get representation if at all possible and never ever speak with these characters on the phone. Always write preferably by fax or recorded delivery and not by email which they tend to ignore or treat less seriously unless it suits them.
