  1. I remember Mrs Crump. Dark haired lady who was pleasant enough as I recall. Had to have some form of authority to be Head Mistress. Lived near Gleadless Townend
  2. Back in the late seventies, former Blades hero & current Argentina manager, Alejandro (Alex) Sabella lived in Mosborough. Does anyone know where abouts in Mosborough?
  3. Certainly recommend http://www.jbheatingservices.co.uk as reliable & thorough.
  4. My wife & I went to both Herdings & Ashleigh. I left Ashleigh in '80 and my wife four years prior to that. We both remember most of the teachers mentioned & all the pupils some of which are still friends. Regarding the McCartneys, there was a family by the same name whose father was Caretaker at Ashleigh lower school in the late 60s Fond memories of Colin Henstock (Peter Popplejack) and Mr. Harding (Ipaminondas)
  5. For the past seven or eight months I've been using the above restaurant having both sit down meals and take aways. The food here I find to be the best Asian food around by miles. Two weeks ago I bought a take away & was shocked to find the prices had increased significantly on main meals. E.g CHICKEN BIRYANI has increased from £5.50 to £7.50 and CHICKEN TIKKA from £6.00 to £7.50. Anyone know as to why this is? Much appreciated RAY
  6. What about these from one of the most misinterpreted & underrated songwriters of our time. Some of the lyrics from NOTHING RHYMED by GILBERT O'SULLIVAN If I give up the seat I've been saving To some elderly lady or man Am I being a good boy Am I your pride and joy Mother please if your pleased say I am And if while in the course of my duty I perform an unfortunate take Would you punish me so, unbelievably so Never again will I make that mistake This feeling inside me could never deny me The right to be wrong if I choose And this pleasure I get From say winning a bet Is to lose When I'm drinking my Bonaparte Shandy Eating more than enough apple pies Will I glance at my screen and see real human beings starve to death Right in front of my eyes Nothing old, nothing new, nothing ventured Nothing gained, nothing still-born or lost, Nothing further than proof nothing wilder than youth Nothing older than time, nothing sweeter than wine Nothing physically, recklessly, hopelessly blind Nothing I couldn't say Nothing why 'cos today Nothing rhymed
  7. I see what you mean. Maybe that would be better with all seven of 'em. I expected it to be a bit cheesey & it was though they were very professional. I think a similar show is running in Vegas for the next three years I would liked to have seen them do two or three of their oldies in their entirity & not just as short versions
  8. Did last year pass you by? They did a British tour last year including Sheffield Arena in May: Donny, Jimmy, Marie, Wayne, Jay, Merrill, Alan
  9. Remember it well. Think it was 9pm - 10pm on Saturday night on ITV & sometimes clashed with MOTD. I recall one episode which featured some guest house named WOODHEATH MOTEL. After all the deadly commotions that went the name sign lights of the place outside read DEATH MOTEL as some of the lights had gone out right at the end. Scareee!!!
  10. (what's the story) morning glory ? - oasis
  11. Yes, I know what you mean re: Richard Allinson. Nothing wrong with Mark Radcliffe though. I like his wit & he's a Slade fan so that's double bubble.
  12. Looks like it's you pattricia writing next years song then eh?
  13. Wonder if that log or remnants of it are still floating around the pool. Swim at your peril!!!
  14. I'm a Pistols fan of the highest order & have seen them 5 times in recent years. I also think The Clash were a fantastic band too and I appreciate them more now than when they were together. From that night on 4th July 1976 I have neither met anyone nor seen any photos from that evening. At that point in their career The Pistols had only played 33 known gigs prior to this one if I'm correct & The Black Swan I think was only their sixth Northern one so very few had seen them or understood them at that point, me included. It would be nice to hear from someone who witnessed that evening. They only did small clubs, halls, colleges, strip joints etc & after that night it would be another 5 months before they appeared on live tv on the Today programme with Bill Grundy......'n the rest as they say is history.
  15. I've had it years. It was released on DVD on 24 September 2001. Just seen it for £7.63 inc. P&P on LoveFilm. BTW Best album is NMTB Here's The Sex Pistols. So much energy, fantastic musicianship, brilliant production, never dated & still relevant.
  16. They've actually been around since the late 1970's. Are they any good? In the words of the late Alan Freeman...........not 'arf Unlike ANY of their counterparts such as the great STONES, MACCA & ELTON who can sell out stadiums, U2 also fill the stadiums around the world, STILL have No. 1 singles & albums and get their music played on Radio 1 & 2. 33 years on with the SAME line up, who else does that?
  17. I must say Sweetcheaks that this is a lovely & fitting epitaph to someone who created something we all remember. Thank you
  18. Malcolm can certainly take credit for his involvement in punk but no-one actually invented it. It evolved from previous music whether it be by The Dolls, The Velvet Underground, Iggy & The Stooges, The Ramones or whoever all of whom were around in the late '60s or in the case of The Ramones the early '70s. The Dolls' image bore little resemblance to that of punk as they looked more like The Sweet or The Stones of the time. It's image came as much from John or even Sid (a little later) as it did from Malcolm 'n Vivienne. The Dolls first album is brilliant but Malcolm did NOTHING for them. They were splitting up by the time he took them over. They'd already done their work. I went to the pics several times in 1980 to see the Swindle. As a film I think it's poor as it's McLaren's false take on punk. Some great clips in it nontheless, some of which I'd like to see in full if Julien would release a Deluxe version of the DVD with extras rather than being pasted together as we see now. p.s THERE'LL ALWAYS BE AN ENGLAND is the latest Pistols DVD to buy which shows the band live at Brixton Academy last November which was great if you were there. Filmed by Swindle producer Julien Temple and sound by NMTB producer Chris Thomas. As well as a great live gig it has a great extras feature with John, Glen, Paul & Steve taking you around their London
  19. Bumped into Michael Stipe of REM last November while en-route to a Pistols gig in London & he obliged with a photo. Spoke 'bout the weather 'n all that, the forthcoming album etc. Pete Shelley of The Buzzcocks, Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Bob Geldof, Noddy Holder.
  20. Icehouse were also on the bill at the above concert. Still got my ticket stub for it & an audience recording somewhere of Bowie's performance on cassette. The first band I saw were Stiff Little Fingers supporting TRB in '78. Ironically SLF were the last band I saw which was at The Plug last Saturday night
  21. I also heard Alex Lester playing Rock N Roll Train this morning. Not bad, not bad at all. Just listening again on YouTube. You Shook Me (All Night Long) I think is one of the all time great rock tunes with great lyrics. A definate nod (pardon the pun) to Slade's Cum On Feel The Noize in the chorus area. Sorry in advance but what about this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W5D2pGsZhbo
  22. Having never seen the classic Sweet line-up I'd have to bring back Brian Connolly & never saw T. Rex so it'd have to be Marc. I so miss the music of Beatle John & also Elvis. There were talks of a possible reunion of The Clash earlier in the decade 'til the sad loss of Joe Strummer.
  23. Firstly, where's the authenticity in the above comment? Secondly, I saw Oasis at Loch Lomond in '96 and they were excellant. No frills, just the band playing great music. I happen to think that Some Might Say is up there with rock's greats. I saw them on the Brit Awards in 2007 when they recieved the Outstanding Contribution award and thought Liam's vocals were questionable. Was this an off night for him or have his live vocals wained a little? Thirdly, seeing as the Sex Pistols who incidently are playing Hammersmith Apollo in a sell out gig on 2nd September which if it's half as good as the Brixton gig I went to in November last year should be a cracker, have been mentioned in this thread in comparison to Oasis. Anyone with any doubt that NMTB is anything less than the greatest 12 song collection ever to be laid down on tape (and Noel would agree) should buy the DVD NMTB: Classic Albums from the Classic Album series. Made in 2002 and filmed in widescreen it includes interviews with anyone 'n nearly everyone concerned with the making of & it'll dispell any comments like "Wasn't there a rumour that most of the guitaring on NMTB was actually the work of Chris Spedding?". There's interviews with all surviving band members and extra footage of Mr. Jones taking you song by song thro' the album on his guitar in "Play in a day the Steve Jones way" .
  24. Although this poll's a good idea I still can't understand how you've come to pick these eleven hits. What happened to Knowing Me, Knowing You, I Have A Dream, SOS, Chiquitita, Fernando, Angel Eyes/Voulez-Vous, One Of Us, The Name Of The Game & Summer Night City. They were all top tenners & bigger hits than some of those in the poll. Take a listen to this track from the 1975 Abba album 'cos ballad's do not come any better than this. A beautiful production & it has to be Agnetha's finest Abba moment. Don't let the video distract you from the song. A perfect vocal if ever I've heard one:
  25. The dance Les Gray used to do on TOTP for Tiger Feet when he "platted" his legs, he knicked it from The Shadows. He said that on Channel Four's The Glam Top Ten broadcast in the mid 90s. Regarding Paul's comment "Like the really old stuff 60s and very early 70s quite dissapointed with top2 as it doesn't show a lot of the really old stuff": Top Of The Pops or anything for that matter pre 1976 is quite elusive in the BBC archive. For example there are only a handful of complete editions out of two or three hundred left from the 1960's (it was first broadcast in January 1964 from Manchester) and there's only one complete edition left from 1972: Sweet, Slade, Bolan performances lost forever. Criminally they never saw a market for future generations so much was wiped or even broadcast live. Old TOTP's never to be seen again unless recorded at home on the rarely owned VCR pre 1976.
