Every one of the It's Our City petition signatures was checked against SCC's electoral register - not only did you have to live in Sheffield, but you had to be registered to vote.  Your response does SCC's Democratic Services department a disservice.

Thank you for pointing this out CallunaV.  Democratic Services took more than a month to check signatures against the Sheffield electoral register, with many meetings with campaigners beforehand so that data could be submitted in a uniform and acceptable form. Democratic services have been very diligent in ensuring that, as a legally binding referendum, they could not be challenged on the 'process' and therefore the letter of the law.

If the council dislike the result,  will they be campaigning for another one?

No, we are stuck with whichever result for 10 years.
Do you want more of the same democratic deficit and general voter disillusionment for 10 more years or do you want to try something new, refreshed, revitalised, inclusive, responsive, collective?

  2. Hi

someone I know is going to be doing regular bird walks in the city.  If you are interested I can keep you posted.

On a different note I am enjoying the company of about 20-30 Redwings who have been hanging out near Heeley Baths (the business park opposite) for the last two weeks.  There's enough berries around to keep them going for another couple of weeks at the rate they've been getting through them.  Just felt the need to share as feeling blessed to be able to look at them from my office window.  They are on the UK red list although I am told these are probably from Norway and N.E Europe and not the breeding ones from Scotland.

  3. Hi

I am organising a rally/procession in the city centre on 21st Oct and we would like a hearse to lead us.

Does anyone have one that they would like to dust the cobwebs off and could spare an hour or so on that day?

PM me if you can help or know someone who might like to.

    Thank you.

    Shelley

We have found one. Thanks to Michael Fogg Funeral Directors.

Maybe we'll see you at our procession though?

  4. Wow that's rather angry. He was just trying to help I'm sure!

Yes, I got told off for typing all that in caps.

But I am angry at Jeff's post so hence the caps. Being 'helpful' would not be to 'suggest' anything without doing some research and talking to the organisers. All events depend on visitors, not putting visitors off.

He has still not made himself known.

From S20. I normally drive into town then cut across to Sharron but I can drive via Meadowhead way if necessary

    Map is here - https://media.letsride.co.uk/view/83e3d29d4db5059c0218c028ebd9ce24/SHEFFIELD%20FRAME%20DIGITAL%20A3.pdf

but you are right, there is nothing on the Key that says "Road Closed".

It seems it goes a bit further than Hunter's Bar Roundabout, up to Endcliffe Park field entrance, where they will turn and head back to town. You will be able to get to Onslow/Rustlings road if you approach coming downhill.

You will have to take a wide berth and go up through Nether Edge and Banner Cross, or round the other way from Crosspool.....can you tell I don't know where S20 is? :hihi:

  5. HSBC's City Ride (mass cycling events, on a city-by-city basis) comes to Sheffield next Sunday. Its duration is advertised as 1100-1500hrs.

    The details are at https://www.letsride.co.uk/city-ride/sheffield

The route involves much of the City Centre, Bramall Lane, and the whole of Ecclesall Road out as far as Endcliffe Park.

NB: there's some suggestion that the planned Sharrow Vale Market Day will be postponed, what with SVR being inaccessible other than from the Psalter Lane side.

DEAR JEFF, WHO ARE YOU TO BE POSTING SUCH (NOT) HELPFUL INFORMATION? PLEASE MAKE YOURSELF KNOWN TO SHARROW VALE COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION AND KEEP ABREAST OF OUR PLANS VIA THE SHARROW VALE MARKET FACEBOOK PAGE.

I have noticed over time that your updates on market dates have been helpful, but on this occasion you are not being so.

    kind regards

    Former Chair of the SVCA

    Hopefully see you there!

  7. Our usual collector has moved out of Sheffield :-(

So we need a new willing recycler. Doesn't have to be every two weeks but every little helps us and the environment eh? ;-)

Please PM if interested, as I don't always get notified of posts left after mine, but do receive PMs. Cheers!

  8. We have about 5 bags every two weeks available for collection.

It is the cross cut stuff, so suitable for animal bedding.

Has also been used for composting.

Would be good if we could find someone to take them away regularly, but even if you just want the odd bag do get in touch anyway...every little helps the planet!

Based near the Virgin Gym, S8.

  9. Indeed. I had a mini panic about two weeks before when the same thought occurred to me. I'm sure we advertised our market first!

    ---------- Post added 14-04-2015 at 22:23 ----------

    Dates for 2017 markets are:-

    April 23rd

    July 16th

    Dec 10th

    12-4pm

Stall holders need to get their applications in to us by the deadline which is usually set about 2 months before each market. As there are usually more applications than we can wave a stick at, your application will not be considered even for a cancellation if it is not received by the deadline.

    Application form available from http://www.sharrowvalecommunityassociation.co.uk

  10. We are a group, currently of 5, that share two plots at Meersbrook Allotments.

Due to a member leaving and the cost of two plots, nevermind the work, we need to find two new members for our group.

We are currently 4 girls and 1 bloke, average age around 45 (going on 25) who have our own crops to look after in a 'buddy' system but share all produce.

We usually aim to put some time in every Sunday at least and so we are holding two Open Day's (Meet The Forkers) one in Feb and one in March where you can meet the team and find out how we organise things. If you are interested in joining us then please PM me for further details. :)

  11. Now now folks, no need to squabble.

I know how frustrating this is.

As the OP of the Market dates (several posts above this) and due to the fact that I had previously found trying to find dates/times of Chelsea Park Bon Fire just as frustrating for the same reason as you Bianco, I intended that this message would be the first of the thread and to annually update the dates (hence recently updated and why the event has not now passed). The reason why they are mentioned so late on in the post is that a genius moderator merged the SVMarket into one megathread...not very convenient if you just wanted to find the dates. :loopy: I have brought this to their attention but they don't seem to want/or be able to 'undo the merge'. :help:

Perhaps you would like to complain to them too?

As for catering...errr...welll, yes. There are usually around 80 stalls and at least 50% are food/produce, either hot or cold. :D

  12. As residents of an area 'enriched' by students we have to deal with a lot of things year in year out that student residents (and those who don't live in such an area) don't often realise.

I do not intend this post to be a -ve post on students. No, this is to seek feedback from all parties on what we are calling the BLIGHT OF THE STUDENT TO LET SIGNS.

On some roads in our area 58% of the houses are let to students. With each property having a To Let board sticking out prominently from the front of the house this can make the whole road look like it's up for sale and that no-one wants to live there, when quite the opposite is the case.

    It also causes other problems:-

The nature of these things leads to the road becoming unkempt by our temporary residents and visitors and the signs are a safety and security hazard for the student residents, even the Police agree with this.

These things are often left up ALL YEAR ROUND or at least most of it. Even now, while properties are let for this academic year, the boards are up to advertise for 2014-15 academic year!!! It seems there is a grey area in the regulations about ‘when’ they are advertising for.

Is it time we had more workable rules/regs/protocol for these things like they do in other cities?

(If you or your residents group also want to improve your neighbourhood by the reduction of these signs please PM me so that we may discuss ideas, we are having a meeting on Thursday and would welcome your input).

  13. hi,

As organisers of the Sharrow Vale Markets we want our events to be more than a shopping experience and have a couple of dj tents but also slots and gazebos for other musicians and entertainers...to entertain the masses.

The markets this year are Sunday: 21st April, 14th July & 1st Dec, 12-4 even though there are happy shoppers there from 11!

With this next one in mind we are appealing for musicians that are appropriate for these family occasions (i.e. not rock, punk etc etc). You could have a slot at the main DJ marquee for 45min or turn up and play at Buskers' Corner - if are up for doing either it would be good to know in advance so that we can coordinate timings a bit even though the idea behind Buskers' Corner is that it is an organic/unplanned experience!

Please email [email protected] if you are interested.

    cheers

    Shelley

  14. I am looking for somebody who would like to offer their services for our charity event. We are raising money for the childrens hospital and would like a bouncy castle for the event. We thought the owner of the bouncy castle charges on the day and keep all profits. If easier we are willing to supervice the boucy castle for you and hand over any profits made from it.

    Hi there

We have http://www.sheffieldbouncycastlehire.com/ at our markets (Sharrow Vale) we get charged £125 upfront which includes the cost of the lad who supervises and a generator. He takes the money (you decide how much it cost per child) and gives it to us at the end of the market. Done on trust but it usually pays for itself at £1 per kid over the 4hrs.

They may have a cheaper 'ride'/bouncy castle but ours requires a generator so it all adds up.

  15. This post is for general information only and is not often monitored by Sharrow Vale Market Organisers.

    Dates for 2014 Markets are:-

    April 13th

    July 20th

    Dec 14st

    All are Sundays, 12-4pm.

Applications for stalls can be downloaded from our website http://www.sharrowvalecommunityassociation.co.uk/market , be advised...deadlines for markets are usually around 2months before each market! So get a wiggle on!

Or, if you're a visitor, we'll see you there then! :)

  16. Why have all the blogs from 2009 been brought up? I have just spent a few minutes reading all about the event in 2009!!! Why can't you just start a new one stating when the market is taking place in 2012, that would save a lot of time and not get people hunting for their diaries and wondering "Why are they having an event in the middle of the week?"

    Sorry Bianca

I had set up a thread in 2011 that would have the dates in the first post, I updated it in 2012 and have also done this for 2013 for everyones ease and review. However the over-zealous SF Mods seem to have created a megathread and therefore buried my thread in page 3 or 4 or 5, I can't remember.

I have reported this to them and hope that they will put it back.

    Dates for 2013 =

    April 21st

    July 14th

    Dec 1st.

I hope that helps...and forgives us.

    Kind regards

    Shelley
