  1. Hi, I'm looking for a builder for a quote for a new porch that is a bit bigger than average as it needs to house a utility and wc as well as an entrance area. There is some other works I need doing to the property (changing window sizes and removing an internal wall etc) if someone would be happy to quote for the lot. I hope its ok to post this in here as its a mixed bag request.
  2. Hi, I'm looking for a roofer, or recommendations for one. I have just bought a property that needs reroofing with slate tiles. Its a victorian up and over in S6. Thanks
  3. Thank you, thats a really good idea, I'll email my solicitor now!
  4. I called the company on the invoice for the ground rent I was given and they said they wouldn't be able to ask the question until we bought the property.
  5. We are about to purchase a house that we have only just been informed has a leasehold of 800 years. The ground rent is £3.50 a year and the house is valued at £180,000. We are buying it to totally renovate and extend so the end value should be much higher. I have never bought a house with a leasehold before and am wary of going in to it and then being told the landlord won't grant permission to extend or some such issue, and I don't know how the insurance or maintenance would be set up. Legally, they have the right to deny an extension, specify how its done, what materials and even what contractors we use. The house next door is also owned by the same landlord and has been extended so in theory there shouldn't be a problem but I'd feel much better if we could buy the freehold and have total rights over the land and property. So, after that long winded explanation, I'm wondering if anyone has bought their freehold on a house and how tricky/expensive it was? Also, could anyone estimate how much it might be? Thanks
  6. Hi could anyone recommend me someone to build and fit out an ensuite for me please? Thanks
  7. Hi, My cat has been missing for 12 days and is a black tom cat. We live in the carter knowle area but previously lived at the top of brincliffe so he may be anywhere in between, maybe lost? I have checked daily at the previous property but it is unusual for him to even go out for more than an hour so several days is concerning. He is chipped and has a black velvet like colar. thanks
  8. My husband used to work for Oxfam and thinks they would sift through what they could sell then throw the rest away. Would rather it went somewhere it could be used. I'll have a google of those you mentions Leah, thanks
  9. I'm moving house soon and recently got married (also because of christmas) and now have lots of sets of house things like mugs and plates and pans etc. Does anywhere know somewhere that could make use of all my old things? they are in good condition there's just no point in taking it all to sit in boxes in the loft if someone can use it. I can't really take it to a charity shop as none of it matches and wouldn't sell. I'm hoping for a place that takes things in that are used for shelters or erm, something like that? I don't know Sheffield well enough to know where to go or if I'd be offending somewhere by just turning up with a load of stuff.
  10. I'm looking for more of a class where I can learn skills over time and have projects etc but sounds like a great beginning thanks
  11. Hi, I am really interested in finding a dressmaking course in Sheffield. I have checked the college and they are full up I am a complete beginner but have a very definite goal in mind of what I want to be able to make. Does anyone know of any classes or tutoring available? I am in S11 but can travel a reasonable distance. Thanks
  12. I think the best idea would be to go off the map. If you are immortal you wouldn't live within the same restrainst of other people so working and being tied down to one place would become a pointless exercise. Also, over time you would find bonds with people less nd less appealing due to losing them so the idea of theft would lay a lot less heavily on your moral radar. Plus you would get spectacularly good at it.
  13. Hi, I'm going to try and make the 18th Aug if thats ok. Never been to a book club before so hoping I don't make an arse of myself
  14. Hi all, I really want to find an aquafit class or something similar like belly dancing or none traditional exercise near S7. Preferably early mornings before work before i have chance to get tired and come up with excuses why I shouldn't go if its something swimming related but I'm happy to look at different times. I drive so can get a little further a field but would prefer not to travel too far. If anyone wants to come along with me please get in touch too, someone to keep me motivated would be excellent!!
  15. Are there any places in or around Sheffield that have a dark room for hire? I much prefer using film over digital and since leaving university I have lost the use of a dark room. Im so desperate Im considering turning my cellar into a dark room but the cost of that would be too much and its a rented house too so very tricky. Any help greatly appreciated
