  1. Yep, seen this a few times now. The landlord of the property should be brought to task on this too. Let's be honest, if it is the same person he doesn't care and he won't change. If it's someone else then they must be just as ignorant/stupid/selfish as the last idiot, but as long as they get away with this they'll carry on doing it.
  2. I'm Sheffield born and bred and I've never heard a house called a drum in all my 49 years.
  3. No we don't. I have lived in Spain and I have friends from all over Europe. The laws are not general. You cannot live in Spain and claim benefits until you have paid into their system for at least 6 months continuously. Likewise in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and France.
  4. So.........last night I thought this post must have reached the person in question as the Astra was parked across the road. Result, I thought. But this morning it was back in the same place as usual - with another car, this time a Renault Clio!! What is wrong with these people!? These houses were built at a time when car ownership was a rarity, admitted, but don't live in one if you can't park your banger in a proper place. However, I suspect in this case it's just down to outright ignorance and bad manners.
  5. If you are a permanent resident in Spain (as these people are here) your British registered car has to either leave the country or be registered on Spanish plates 6 months after you import it. Failure to do so means having the car impounded and destroyed. I understand this is an EU law and it should be applied in all cases. I am sick to the back teeth of seeing Slovak, Check, Polish and Romanian plated cars conspicuously flouting every regulation and getting clear away with it while law abiding drivers like me are taxed, watched and hammered into the tarmac. The parking in and around Page Hall is astoundingly anti social and dangerous and the regular sight of a clearly non roadworthy Slovak plated Skoda stuffed full of smirking immigrants with no regard for other road users fills me with anger. The police should have better things to do than enforce laws that are merely statutes to common sense and good manners.
  6. Really? So the car and van that are there most nights with the whole of the car width on the pavement (right going down, left going up) are decoys then? I'm not being negative. This sort of parking is evident all over Sheffield and is indicative of the "couldn't care less" attitude that prevails. The New Roads and Street Works Act is clear that a width of at least 1 metre is required for pedestrians passing on the footpath where works are being carried out so why do you think it's fine for cars to take up the footpath because the owner can't be bothered to find a safe place to park that would involve them having to walk a few yards. It's just about thinking about others. Incidentally, when I lived in Spain my street had a parking policy whereby for 6 months we parked on the left and for 6 months we parked on the right, and there was no parking on the footpath - by law.
  7. All that will happen (if the stop is removed) is the irresponsible cretins who buy or rent one the terraced houses there that does not have a drive will carry on believing it's their God given right to park on the path outside their house causing pedestrians to walk in the busy road.
  8. I'm half way through it now after recommendations from friends that it was as good as Sons of Anarchy. It's not.
  9. It's an i8 that has just been delivered to the owner of Quarry Motors after a lengthy wait.
  10. Before they demolished Brushes my friend and I went in to get our old school files and some for our mates. I still have mine and it was a revelation to see the notes put in there by some of the teachers! Some stuff I'd forgotten too. The really were the best years of my life, just didn't know it at the time, especially the trips to the school cottage with Mr Lucas. Still see a lot of the old pals. ---------- Post added 16-07-2014 at 21:45 ---------- By the way, I was in Meadow Farm a few weeks back with an old Firth Park friend and Mr Sherwood was there, still looks fantastic now. Then I noticed a crowd of ex Firth Park pupils, all girls, in the bar too so pop in and you might see someone you know!
  11. I was born in No 5 Godric Road in 1966 (sad to say there's no blue plaque on the wall though!). I grew up in Shiregreen even after we moved to Lane Top when I was 12 and I used to spend most of my time down the Brook and on the estate with my mates, cycling back home after. I have nothing but fond memories of the whole place when I was a kid. I still drive and cycle through there regularly and my best mate lives on Gatty Road so I can honestly say that it really isn't as bad as people want to paint it. You will always have an element of troublesome people where ever people gather, but it is much better now than it used to be when it seemed to take a dip about 20 years ago. It's sad that the Penguin has gone the way of all the other locals now though. All in all Shiregreen has a population who are linked to the place and I still find it as I always have. I've lived in Manchester and Spain and I've worked all over the country but I've always been proud to say that I am from Shiregreen and I always will.
  12. My sympathies are with the OP and his wife. Isn't it amazing that there are now more controls on public freedom than ever before yet some scumbag moron can get away with running another human being down?
  13. Really, it doesn't matter what the weather does or how much you dress up the route because whoever chose it is a rank idiot or collection thereof. After watching the Radio Sheffield video of the route I couldn't believe the latter part and the image it will portray of Sheffield. Just as well that the coverage is up against F1 and the tennis but after the backdrop of beautiful Yorkshire to make us all proud we'll be into Hillsborough, Burngreave (God almighty!), Wincobank (why, why, why?) and (of course) Meadowhell. It's an absolute joke. After the negative bashing that Sheffield has had recently on T.V. with those fly on the wall documentaries about Page Hall and the feckless dole scrubbers we could do with painting a better picture than this. I live in North Sheffield and I cycle a lot so I'm not one of the people bashing the event, I just can't believe they've come up with this ridiculous route.

  15. What's the relevance in that tirade? Why would the plight of Durban's shack dwellers be of any concern to the organizers of the Tour de France? can't you just let someone ask a relative question without having to jump on the OP and rant off about something over which we have NO CONTROL? Get a grip.
