  1. Try the one done by Alice Skelton (do a search for her on the web, very good!). It has an unusual take on Sheffield, urban and witty. Saw one at Aalto Moderna, Oakbrook Road. http://www.aaltomoderna.com
  2. I thought I was optimistic asking for £250. Someone is now asking £350 for a plate on eBay AND she has copied my previous listing, word for word. Hmmmmmm, they say imitation is the sincerest............
  3. I disagree. There is a thriving modern collectables market here, http://www.aaltoretro.com, bullit, pad, retrocentro and others. As for their being no interest outside of Sheffield, I was the one who sold the plate and it was to someone in Hampshire. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It would be a very drab world if we all liked the same thing. In years to come thousands of people will say how they miss seeing the towers as they drive home to S Yorkshire on the M1. The memorobilia shop was due to be open for 2 weeks. It closed in 2 hours cos so many people wanted a piece of soon to be history.
  4. Not sure exactly where you mean sweetipie but the Antique Centre is behind there on Broadfield Road, just past Heeley baths. http://www.aaltoretro.com is based there on the 1st floor. slickwitch, been in antic, not my cup of tea really. Saff, its funny both bullett and aaltoretro.com sell similar stuff but while bullet is crammed aaltoretro is more spaced out with information on each item, more like a gallery.
  5. They've got a web-site now: http://www.aaltoretro.com
  6. Here is the link to the article. http://www.sheffieldtelegraph.co.uk/features/Retro-calling-for-Satnam.3221113.jp
  7. Hey. aalto is upstairs, at the front at Sheffield Antiques Centre on Broadfield Rd (past Heely Baths). I've just been. Wicked! It is very low-key. Nicely laid out stuff, not too cramped, all items have a card highlighting origin of product, designer and country. Some of the best stuff I've seen!
  8. Hi everyone (or should that be Hei!). Thanks for your posts, I have been 'Internetless' until now. Just got back, had a great time but ended up staying quite far out as the Jazz Festival was on.
  9. Hi all. Can anyone recommend somewhere cheap(ish) to stay for a week in central Copenhagen? We are looking for a hotel or an apartment for 2 adults. All suggestions gratefully received. Thanks.
  10. I am getting a bit tired of this. I can't say exactly how I came into contact with this lad here. If people care for the truth and want to know PM me. I will try and find out the make of the scooter. Some of us do care for others and give their time freely. A smaller number screw others. It seems most just snipe on the sidelines.
  11. Thanks for all the useful suggestions. As I tried writing this quickly (before the 10 am deadline of core time, personal use not allowed then) I thought, hmmm.... some people are going to think this is dodgy. HOWEVER - I didn't realise how many cynics there are! As my mum used to say, if you can't think of anything good to say................ I will get the lad to see the postings so he can decide whether to follow up the suggestions. I personally stand to lose or gain nothing from this apart from sending a few emails. Thanks again for your comments people. THE GLASS IS HALF FULL
  12. Can anyone give me any advice? I have met a young lad through voluntary work that I do who is going through a rough patch. One his passions is his scooter ( I know naaaaaaathing about them). Recently, while he has driving (?) it he hit a bump and the key popped out. He can't find it and he can't now use his scooter. Apparently it will cost him around £100, which he hasn't got to get a new lock/immobiliser fitted. Can anyone suggest any ways round this? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  13. Hi everyone, just want to say thanks for your support and comments. Had a great time, saw some amazing stuff, learn a lot about myself (listen to me!) and made some new friends.
