  1. hello, i'm wondering if there are any nurseries/creches in the Sharrow/Netheredge/Heeley/Huntersbar area that would offer irregular childcare. i get offered work on a random basis and would like to find somewhere for littleangelbeast to go, seems like most places expect regular bookings. any ideas? cheers m'dears x
  2. i got an urban detour just because it was for sale second hand, it is a very robust and dependable model. however if you have any sense that there may be more babies down the line then just go and buy a phil and teds, then you don't have to change buggies later on. and a second hand maclaren is always a good idea for light trips out too. good luck and enjoy it xxx
  3. many thanks for this, all the parents i know are first timers with under ones so we're all new to it, i've found one near me thanks to the link from cosywolf, i didn't find anything when i searched on this forum before as i didn't separate the words soft and play but typed softplay instead! duh! xxx
  4. hello, i've been to these places elsewhere, one was called Hickory Dickory's and they are great for rainy days, they are big padded areas with ball pools and slides and climbing frames but all safe and the best ones have a cafe where you can retreat back and let the little'uns get tired out whilst you have a cuppa. but are there any in sheffield? i've not heard of any but i'm sure there must be cheers in advance x
  5. My 7 month old darling has been pretty amazing and started sleeping through from the tender age of 3 months. I know i risk getting no help or sympathy at admitting to this miracle of nature, however, here goes....! Just last week she has started waking at 12-1 am ish and then again at 4-5 am ish, very loudly requesting milk, not a cry or scream, more of a yell. She is on 3 good solids meals a day plus a morning bottle and a bedtime bottle that we wake her for at 10pm after putting her down to sleep at about 630ish. So what's going on? I find it hard to believe she could be hungry but it seems she is, although she never finishes these bottles. Her teeth could be an issue but we don't see any sign of her being in discomfort from them, nothing obvious at the moment. Another idea could be trapped wind as she has vegetarian food and can be farty but seems good at farting! i'm at my wits end and beginning to rethink my choice to get going and try for another right now! any ideas would be gratefully recieved xxx
  6. oh jeez, you have my full sympathy, sounds pretty like what i ended up like a few months ago when my littl'un arrived. even tho i did get infected the doc did say she'd never seen a bad one heal as quick and i put it all down to arnica, taken orally as pillules. i had got it from Boots in avance of the big event as i'd been advised by friends. it really did have a big effect on bruising and healing. bathing twice a day also helped. i also ended up getting thrush again and again and again, but now, 9 weeks on, things are almost back to normal. hang in there, it is a total bummer to have all that on top of trying to learn to do the parenting thing xxx
  7. cheers for the ideas, empathy and support, i'm beginning to see how i can respond to this new stage, i'll probably just get it sussed and she'll be onto the next thing! xxx
  8. thankyou for that babychickens, its kind of thrown me a bit, this changing and growing thing! guess i should get used to it at some point! i hadn't thought about just carrying her along with my activities and including her that way, rather than there being 2 distinct times, one for her and one for me..... tough day today anyhow as hubster has gone back to work and she got her immunisations today, crikey! xxx
  9. this sounds crazy but i am at a loss to know what i'm supposed to do with my baby. we have passed through the stage where she was either asleep or feeding, now we are into "alert" time. we do talk and smile and hangout around her feeds but what about the rest of the time? she isn't yet interested in baby gyms and mobiles are ok for a little time but not long. i do have her in a sling sometimes too, both at home and out and about. i have some of the real basic books but she's more interested in shapes on the walls and light and dark areas in the room. i am happy for her to do whatever she wants but i feel at a loss, basically she's not yet ready for play but not asleep and i'm also not sure when i should get on with the housework and all the other stuff that needs doing - crikey! any advice from pro-parents please! xxx
  10. i had a good experience - had to rush in at 35 weeks with contractions 3 minutes apart and the chance of placenta praevia (had not had 36 weeks scan yet to see if low placenta at 20 weeks had moved). i found they were very quick to act when i got there and i had continuous care. once the drama had settled and we got reassuring results that baby may be staying put i was sent up to the wards and again was very impressed by the level of care and very human response and really like the layout of the place too! i'm planning to have my baby at home, but if i do need to go in i won't be worried as i was really impressed with my experience of Jessops.
  11. i know this is an old thread but i was trawling for "frustrated, not engaged, want to go into labour" types things and found it so there may be more of you out there. just wanted to say that in the whole of 2006 my acupuncturist had a 100% success rate at bringing women to labour ahead of the chemical induction date. i will definitely get him to give me that treatment if i go overdue xxx
  12. walked past last night and there seemed quite a few nice prams, caught my eye, seems like they have a lot of baby stuff for not a massive shop, looks like all the trendy stuff, might go in if our yet to be born love gets any money gifts to celebrate her arrival! xxx
  13. thanks raven13, thats very inspiring. i have only a few more weeks to go and preparations are mounting, the pool has arrived, the sack of goodies for the midwives has arrived and we may actually get the room ready soon, i am listening to hypnobirthing affirmations and doing relaxations techniques and wondering what my birth story will be like......maybe i should post it on this thread??! xxx
  14. thanks for all the input, calling it "no push technique" is a bit misleading i guess. my sense is it is mostly about avoiding the old fashioned "purple pushing" or vaclvava procedure that burst my mum's blood vessels round her eyes when she had me. certainly breathing in different ways at different times seems to be really useful and effective. towards the end i am happy to be guided by my midwife anyway. oddly enough since posting this i have had a snaeky peak at the effectiveness of breathing, with contractions, as we ended up in jessops on sunday morning at 6am with a definite sense that the little'un could be joining us 5 weeks early. contractions every 2 minutes and getting worse, so i tried the breathing i had learnt as well as softening visualisaiton and it really made a difference, but i think i have a lot more work to do...... anyhow, the good news is that after 2 hours it just stopped. i had to stay in and had to have steriod injections too, just in case it kicked off again, hopefully she'll stay put a bit longer xxx
  15. that's interesting to hear about, thankyou for sharing that xxx
