  1. Hi Ian / Richard - did anything come of the idea for a Jug Band? I've been playing guitar in various styles for 60 years now (lately with Toffee Music who disbanded in July). I think I've crossed paths at the Royal in Crookes with the Backyard Buskers on a couple of evenings. I have guitars a-plenty plus washboard, kazoos (and I'm looking for a jug!). Update please. Mike
  2. MUSIC HALL, VAUDEVILLE, STANDARDS of YESTERYEAR If any of these song genres mean something to you then there is a monthly session you should join. We are a group of enthusiasts for these types of music from 1900-1950 and we meet on the SECOND MONDAY of each month from 8.30-11 pm in the front room of the WHITE LION pub on London Road (immediately next to Ponsford's furniture showroom). We set an occasional challenge by trying to find songs for an agreed theme: January: Winter / New Year February: Love March: Astronomy April: Anything goes – free choice If you'd like to join in (acapella, or with guitar or ukulele perhaps) or just listen then we'd love to welcome you at one of our sessions: Feb 11th, March 11th or April 8th Or give Mike Lydiat a ring on 07510 291194 for more details.

  4. Toffee Music run a 'Second Monday of the Month' evening at the White Lion on London Rd, 8.30 - 11 pm. Each month we have a theme and people try to find songs relating to it - this month we have TRANSPORT. So please come along if you would like to perform a song or just listen. All welcome. Bucket collection for Weston Park Cancer Charity.
  5. My mate Chris Barber is an Irish (Ullliean) piper if that helps. Find him on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/chrispbarber07
  6. Hi - thanks for the response. I don't have the ZVEX pedal - I have the ZVEX functionality built into the guitar by the Manson workshop in Devon. I've manged to do a bit of internet research last week and I've found a list of settings for various effects which I'm going to try out this week. One problem is that I only have easy access to 2 of the ZVEX controls - the STAB and the COMP. The other 3 are hidden in the screwed down battery compartment on the back of the guitar - totally inaccessible without removing the cover. I've also watched quite a few You Tube videos (of pedals) and I think some of the noise I was complaining about is in fact an expected effect. I'll perhaps post an update here when I learn to control it! Thanks again. Mike
  7. Hi - I have bought a Fender Strat modded by Manson's in Exeter with an internal ZVEX Fuzz Factory effects box - but I'm having great trouble trying to control the beast! I don't know if it's faulty or if I just need help towards managing it. Does anyone have experience which might help me? My gratitude would be expressed in whisky or something similar!
  8. Try Tim at Nightingale Audio Systems, J C Albyn Complex, Burton Rd, Sheffield S3 8BZ, United Kingdom. Helped me a few times.

  12. Toffee Music would be pefect for your party - see our web site: http://www.toffeemusic.co.uk You will see that we have been playing over the past 4 years raising funds for Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity - £23,500 so far. We ask for a cheque for £100 for each gig (made out to WPHCC), I take it to their office and they send you a certifcate as receipt. If your venue is outside Sheffield we also ask for £10 petrol money - otherwise no payment at all comes to us. Take a look and let me know if we can help. Mike Lydiat
  13. Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity are looking for a country or folk band for their Wild West themed Night Walk on Oct 3rd. Excellent local charity. If you can help contact Sarah.Cross@sth.nhs.uk
  14. I just got a VL3 VoiceLive3 from TC Helicon. Anyone out there experienced with VL3 (or VL2) and willing to meet to give a few starter tips to a newbie? Or any other newbies out there also struggling with this fab (but very complicated) piece of kit?
