  1. Well done Sherlock, but your user name gives nothing away. Sent you a PM
  2. Happy memories of the Daizy. Proposed to the missus there in 1974, worked out OK as our thirty eighth wedding aninversay is coming up
  3. Grew up on Fairthorn Road so remember all the shops mentioned here. Does anyone else remember the Telefusion shop next to the Co-op? They had a record shop downstairs, bought my first record there for 6/8d. Also Revells paper shop has been mentioned but I you to deliver papers for his brother who sold his papers off a cart. In a morning he was on the corner of Sicey Ave and Stubbin Lane(outside the Church)and sell the Star at night on the corner of Bellhouse Rd and Firth Park Rd(outside the Yorkshire Bank). Had many an Airfix kit from Kenyon's and pork pies from Friedrechs Butcher. In the early seventies had an evening/Saturday job at Fine Fare and used to do the famous "cobbing it" with half a loaf hollowed out and filled with chips and scraps from the Paragon chippy.
  4. Linda, don't know if you still check this site but have just read your post. I was in the same year as you along with John Senior,John Marshall,Graham Senior,Joe Johnson,Bev Senior, and Carol Lockwood to name a few. I also new Brian well as I was mates with his brother Dennis right from junior school and my Gran lived just a block up from them on Fircroft Road, ask him if he remebers "Jaffas" as i was known. As often happens we did not keep in touch after leaving school though I heard that you and Brian had gone to Oz and that Dennis had his own business. It would be good to know how they ars both doing as well as yourself. Myself I emigrated to Canada in 1981 but still keep in touch with John Senior and Carol Lockwood and meet up when visiting home.
  5. Failed 11+ and went to Hatfield House Lane which as we all know merged with Firth Park. Like many have said on here I went to the North building for the first few years then Brushes for the latter all in all was there from 1967-1972. Who do I remember? Quite a few as follows: BOYS John Senior,Joe Johnson,David Hickey,Graham Senior,Paul Scarratt,Mick(Simmo)Simmonite,Ian Cotterill,Phil Neville, Ian Hayes,Ian Rollinson,Dave Mallaband,John(Mash)Marshall R.I.P..Danny Elmer,Martin Lambert,Paul(Oscar)Alderson, David(Stag)Steer,John Barnes,Dennis Slater,Mick Oxley,Jimmy Godfrey GIRLS Beverly Senior,Kathryn Cawthorne,Sue Robinson,Carol Lockwood,Valerie Cox,Linda Hickey,Linda Nolan,Marylyn Frost,Karen Richardson,Jean Holland,Maureen Baxter,June Goddard,Diane Butterfield TEACHERS Tom Lockwood, Revitt,Goldthorpe,Jack White,Pete Adams,Jennings,Bradbury,Mrs Bugg,Copley,Dan Jessop,Jackson,Pop Senior,Sherwood,Staines and of course Spike Johnson who once took a bunch of us to Birmingham one Saturday to see The Owls play City and he did not even go to the match himself.Thas the measure of the man he was. I emigrated to Canada thirty years ago but still keep in touch with John Senior and Kathryn Cawthorne(who are married),Ian Hayes and Carol Lockwood. We all get together when I come home for visits. I'm sure more names will come to me and will add to the list later

Among the adults were Mr Littlewood, Mr Webb,Mis Coward Mrs Martin and Betty Stevens.
  7. OK I am a couple of years late finding this thread( even my uncle beat me by a year or two) and I am sure most of the posters do not visit anymore but I have so much to tell. I am not goin to write out one massive post but will break it down. Lets start with a quick outline. My mom moved into 32 Fircroft Road when it was brand new with my Nan and Grandad. My uncle came along a few years later(read the posts by "Donnay) When mom was married she had two daughters and moved into 108 Mason Lathe Road. This is where I was born in September 1955. As a nearly three year old we moved to the other side of Shiregreen to Fairthorn Road. While this is where I grew up I spent a lot of time in my childhood going back over as we were members of St Christophers and like many posters on here I joined the cubs as an eight year old and went on to the scouts later. I went to both Hatfield House Lane junior and senior schools ( failed the eleven plus much to my mothers dismay) and later Brushes when the Comp system came in and let us riff raff mix with the elite. That opened up the Lower Shiregreen for me as I made many friends who had come from Beck Road Junior School. Moved of the estate after my first year of marriage but was a constant visitor as My Nan still lived there well into her nineties. The trips did get more rare when I emigrated to Canada in 1981 whre I still live. So that is the outline and as I get time will try to pass on the names, places and events of my twenty odd years there
  8. I used to drink in the Sicey when it was pub before any renovation. When the conversion was done in 1975 and the resteraunt was opening I approached the landlord Pete Gleadhall and asked if they did weddings as mine was approaching. He told us he hadn't thought about it but was willing to give it a try so ours was the first wedding reception held there and they did us proud. So it is very sad to here about its demise.
