  1. I’m sure you’re correct, I just look at our system with utter despair and look for alternatives that could produce a result that suits more people. To me it breaks down broadly into two schools of thought. The first is the state should pay for as little as possible and people should be left with as much of their income as possible to pay for the services they need. The second is the state should provide as many services as possible paid for from taxation. The problem we seem to have is there’s one party believing in the first philosophy in the Tories and there’s a multitude of them believing in the second (Labour, Lib Dems, SNP, Green, Plaid Cymru, UKIP). This second viewpoint then gets so diluted that the first philosophy wins and the majority of us are left with a government we don’t want. Take the NHS or taxation for example: Labour, Lib Dems, SNP, UKIP, Plaid Cymru and the Greens would increase spending and taxation to pay for it. Between them they’ll get probably 60-65% of the vote so it’s fair to say that’s what the majority of us want, but we’ll end up getting the alternative. Perhaps if it became a straight fight between the two viewpoints we’d get a different result.
  2. Unfortunately it's too much choice! On one side you have the Tories who will always promote spending less, on the other everyone else saying we need to spend more. Example NHS spending Labour, Libdems, UKIP, Greens and SNP all want to spend more, whereas the Tories will keep it at current levels. Result If you want to improve the NHS you have numerous choices, if you wnat to keep minimum service you have one. So the mandate in the country would be to spend more, yet we'll end up with a Tory government spending less as the opposition is so diluted. I think we'd be better off with a French style election with a straight run-off between two candidates.
  3. We have and I've no doubts the squad is stronger leading to more points. However, I do think one of the new signings would have broken through to be regular first team starter ( i know he seems to like Reach but he's one of a few that does).
  4. They talk about Strong and Stable leadership yet all I seem to see is them failing to hit their own targets: If their leadership skills are so good then why: Budget deficit targets missed Debt reduction targets missed A and e waiting times targets missed Operation waiting times targets missed Immigration targets missed Universal Credit welfare reform targets missed Well at least are NHS I.T systems are secure under their leadership lol! Seriously I know all governments miss targets but this lot seem to miss more than they hit and hugely significant ones as well.
  5. I read in another forum that yesterdays line-up had two changes from the first leg last year and these were Fletcher and Reach for Hooper and Lopez. Assuming this is correct I think last teams first 11 was better (I do agree on the bench though). We miss a player like Lopez big time who could put his foot on the ball and control the game, yesterday Bannan (second-half especially), Lee, Reach and Wallace all had poor games (as did the two strikers). It does concern me that given how much we've spent our first 11 seem to have gone backwards (or at least not forward). Reach has to be dropped and FF moved back, and probably Rhodes or Winnal with Hooper if fit.
  6. I’d change the format slightly. I’d make the semi-finals a one-off game with the 3rd and 4th place teams at home as this would have the effect of teams playing stronger teams to the end. The Scottish one is bizarre, one of my mates is a Dundee United fan and they play a Q/F against Morton over two legs, then the winners a S/F against 3rd place team before the winner of that playing second bottom of the Premier League. That seems a bit long winded but would incentivise teams to play stronger teams.
  7. Not sure who from last years team you'd drop for them. FF is in my opinion far more effective than both and we've improved since Hooper came back so I wouldn't want him dropping.
  8. Personally I'd have Hooper out of the two if both fit to play with Fletcher on the bench! ---------- Post added 09-05-2017 at 13:30 ---------- New singings would be this season and the likes of: Fox Jones Mcmannaman Rhodes Urby Winnall Fletcher Buckley Reach There's also a few more from last season on the periphery and I'm surprised none of these have made the breakthrough to get a starting place (in my eyes others will disagree).
  9. Whilst we are a few points and places better off I can't help thinking if everyone was fit none of our new signings would make the starting 11. My play-off team would be westwood Pudil Hunt Lees Loovens Bannan Hutchinson Wallace Lee Hooper forestieri I find it odd that none of the new signings have done well enough to get into a first team (in my opinion) and I suspect we'd be playing the same team as last year. Just wondering how many new signings get into your starting line up.
  10. Very interesting comment from the Policeman on the Sky documentary last night. He indicated he was asked to lead the Scotland yard investigation but then was told not to go near it as one of the rules was that the parents couldn't be interviewed/investigated. That sounds very dodgy to me: 1- the Parents and friends could give valuable information 2- Surely they should be treated as suspects due to the blood and smell of a dead body in the apartment If you can get this back on Sky 1 or Sky News then it's worth a watch.
  11. Sorry you'll need to explain it.Are you seriously suggesting government policies have no effect on the deficit and subsequent national debt levels.
  12. My concern is that when I watched us beat Derby I turned to my lad and indicated we'd turned this around by going back to last years team. If we''d have stuck with this and one new addition up-front we'd be closer to automatic than now and the problem Carlos has is that the players he's brought in are no better than what we had spending a fortune in the process. One quality passing midfielder (Sheridan or Mooy at Huddersfield) would have took us up automatically, not 3 new strikers and two new wide players (one of which I accept is on loan)
  13. The last time I checked the Government had the power to: Set spending levels Set taxation levels Decide whether or not to see off assetts to pay off the debt I'm not sure who else can be blamed if it is accepted the figure is correct.
  14. At the 2010 election Sky News had the National Debt clock running across our screens to show us all why Labour couldn't be trusted with the economy. So why when this has increased so largely since then aren't they showing it this time round. For those of you missing it here's link to remind you of what "Sound and Stable" leadership brings: http://www.nationaldebtclocks.org/debtclock/unitedkingdom
  15. After all of these years we are still no nearer knowing what happened here and I'm curious to what peoples gut instinct is. Personally I'm drawn towards the dogs in the apartment that smell death and given no record of anyone else dying in there exists it points towards her dying in the apartment. However I can't for the life of me explain how the body could have been disposed of so quickly and why none of their friends has come out with the truth so I'm probably 60-40 she died accidentally in the apartment.
  16. Like a lot of people I am saddened by the decision to remove Free Movement. I’m of an age where opportunities to move and work in Europe have probably passed me by, but to all our young people out there who have now had this wonderful opportunity taken away from them, can I apologise on behalf of the older brigade who have decided to pull up the drawbridge to keep people out, but in so doing have made it nigh on impossible for you to cross in the other direction. We are heading into some difficult times, families will be ripped apart and our popularity in the world is about to diminish even more. Welcome to England 2017!
  17. This issue causes so many fallouts in our office. Guidance shows the "optimum" temperature should be between 20-22 degress (not sure who this is optimum for presumably means most productive) which is too hot for some (like me) and too cold for others. So how do you decide what to set your temperature at and what instructions are given to those not happy with this decision.
  18. It’s time (always has been in my opinion) to pick the team based on performances and not how much they cost. Reach has and never will be a left-back and unfortunately for the lad he has a couple of players (at least) better than him on the left-wing, so he has to be dropped until his form improves and Mcmannanaman is the obvious choice. Rhodes ( I know this will be unpopular) would have scored a couple last night if he’d have been playing regularly, he hasn’t and Winnall was superb when he came on so he needs dropping for Winnall up-front. I had great hopes for Abdi but the pace of the game seems too quick for him so he needs dropping for Bannan back in the middle again. Tough call for Carlos, if I went to my boss and said I need some big money for new kit and then I find out that new kit isn’t as good as what I had, then I suspect I’d be in a bit of trouble.
  19. To me it’s a no-brainer and I’d take the points every time. There’s a generation of Wednesday fans who haven’t seen Premiership football and for the sake of those give me a 1-0 win every game between now and the end of season. However, I have to say that if I had £10 million to spend in order to achieve that I’d have bought two top quality defenders rather than spend it on a striker who’s probably only a marginal upgrade on those we already have so I know which I'd want but not sure the Manager thinks the same.
  20. Maybe it’s just me but I’m not overly confident that he’s the answer to our goalscoring problems. At the end of the day there are two managers involved here, one Carlos who will most likely only ever seen him play on television and who will have no idea what his attitude is like in training and how he compares to other strikers. The second is Karanka who has an excellent pedigree and who sees him every day in training and clearly he doesn’t think he’s good enough as he can’t get in a team who are struggling to score goals. Out of the two I’d back the judgement of the Middlesbrough manager and to pay the amount being quoted seems madness to me without even mentioning that creativity is our problem this year. Get Hooper back fit and we wouldn’t need Rhodes and use the 8-10 million to find a creative midfielder or winger.
  21. [/color] I enjoy visiting other countries.,that does not mean I want my homeland to be part of them or to live there. As the French say "Vive la differance" That's fair enough but do you have any sympathy for those that want to live elsewhere, but who will no longer be allowed?
  22. I'm still trying to find someone who voted to leave who can tell me what the migration policy will be post Brexit, yet they keep telling me they know what they voted for.
  23. Fair points but I think my point is whether or not Spanish should be the language he's learning now. If he's looking at work and life prospects would Mandarin be a better option now.
  24. So are you in the camp: I'm not bothered it doesn't affect me It doesn't affect me but you have sympathy for those who won't be able to go now You don't think the right to live/work in Europe should be removed
  25. I haven't seen anywhere which indicates a reciprocal agreement will exist for those who can support themselves coming here and I doubt that this could be policed effectively. ---------- Post added 17-01-2017 at 12:39 ---------- So in answer to the original question if they won't let us in would you be disappointed as I know I would be.
