  1. Thank you all for your advice and suggestions. I will pass them all onto her.
  2. Thanks for that. I'll keep checking back and do a printout for her so she's got all advice given here to hand.
  3. A friend of mine has just lost her elderly Mum. Mum did have a house but it was sold years ago to pay for care home fees. This now means there's nothing left. The daughter (my friend) has recently broken up with her husband and despite being in a very good job, is on the verge of bankruptcy. Talk about having your plate full. Anyway, daughter can't afford to pay for Mum's funeral and doesn't know what to do. I've suggested she talk to the funeral directors to see if they can offer any advice. As far as I'm aware there is no-one that can claim for a funeral payment from the social fund, and I don't know what else to suggest. Can anyone offer any constructive advice please?
  4. I've just started getting into fake tanning and St Moriz has been recommended to me. What prep do I need to do and when do I moisturise my skin? Before or after? How do I deal with tanning my hands/fingers/face? Thanks for your help.
  5. Thank you to everyone for their help. I'm going to check out all the options.
  6. I'm thinking of giving home made wines and cookies this year as Christmas presents but am not sure what to do about wrapping. I've sorted the bottle side of things out but no idea about the cookies. I'm thinking some kind of cellophane bag and some curly ribbon but not sure. Has anyone got any other ideas? Presentation is really important. Thanks.
  7. Rather than put my heating on for set periods each day (because I'm not always here, plus it doesn't always warrant it) I'd like to be able to essentially stick it on for a couple of hours when needed. I can do this currently if I put the thermostat on to maximum, but quite often I forget that it's on and leave it on for much longer than I need to. Here is a picture of my thermostat. It is located upstairs. Is it possible to get a remote control set up where I can turn heating on and off from downstairs as and when required? Alternatively, is there a box that I could have installed where I could just press a boost button to give me a set amount of heating - say for an hour or two. If so, any ideas as to how much this would cost? Thanks in advance.
  8. I've just helped my friend complete a community care grant application but she's lost the envelope to send it back in. Does anybody know where I should post it back to please? She lives in Leeds. Thanks.
  9. What a nice story Hope you're doing ok.
  10. I'd agree. It's well annoying when you want a sleep in.
  11. When we used to live in a flat the water bill was more expensive than my sisters who lives in a much bigger property so not sure how that works.
  12. I don't understand what you're complaining about! Has something been stolen? Did he take something that wasn't his?? No! All he did was take back what was rightfully his. It's not his fault you left your door open is it?? He's been carrying out work for you and now you're talking of reporting him for taking his tools back???? How about instead of getting angry with him and reporting his behaviour - you get angry with yourself - and have a stiff talk to yourself about house security while you're at it. FGS. Some people are never happy unless they're moaning.
  13. I have Zone alarm on my computer and have always been fine with it. Today I ran a 'Zone Alarm system check-up' program. This identified lots of problems on my computer - and to be honest, most of them made sense (my computer's not been performing as well as usual and my internet's sometimes a bit crap despite having 20mb broadband) Some of the things identified were really specific, so it made me think that this might not be just a gimmick. Anyway it recommended that I download 'System Mechanic' which will help me fix all these problems and make my computer run much faster. It's $19.95. Should I download it? Will it help? Is it likely to be easy to use?
  14. Good luck. It's one of the best things I ever did.
