  12. Event Details Location: South Yorkshire Event Date: Tuesday 11th August 2009 Places Available: 15 Event Cost: £25.00 Event Time: 7.30pm-Late Driving Instructions Address: AeroVenture, Dakota Way Airborne Road, Doncaster Leisure Park Doncaster, DN4 7FB *Please Note* That times may be subject to change. Please check the website prior to the event The Doncaster Air Museum is situated at Doncaster lakeside and is the former site of RAF Doncaster. In 1920 the government asked local authorities to open a chain of airfields across the country. On the 26th of May 1934 the Aviation centre at Doncaster was opened, and development of the site continued. As the airfield started to develop an international service to Amsterdam was introduced in 1936. In November 1938 a new building was built opposite the aerodrome, accommodating the 616 squadron, and featured three Bellman type airplane sheds. On the 15th of July 1939, the no 47 Elementary and reserve flying training school was formed. A single Bellman hanger and timber unit was built to house the school. (Now used to house the museum) In September 1939 no 7 arrow operational training unit started to fly from Doncaster. On the 6th of December 1940 a fierce gale damaged the aircraft at the airfield. The 271 squadron was converted into transport carriers. Between March and August 1941, the 613 squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force operated from the airfield. In February 1944, 271 squadron vacated the airfield; the remaining aircraft formed an air ambulance service. The squadron was used to evacuate the wounded during the D-Day landings. After the war C L surveys took over the two hangers to convert aircraft into civilian use. In October 1947 no 9 reserve flying training school operated from the airfield, providing training for RAF reserve pilots. No 24 gliding school were also at the airfield providing training for corps cadets. In 1960 the gliding club opened at the airfield. In 1967 the South Yorkshire airport LTD leased the Doncaster; the South Yorkshire flying club was also formed at this time. In 1992 the airfield was closed and left to go into disrepair. During this time the local area was redeveloped very little of the original airfield survived this redevelopment. In recent years the Bellman hanger and wooden buildings were occupied by Yorkshire water, after their departure the buildings fell into disrepair. In 1999 South Yorkshire Aircraft Museum moved into the site and brought it back to safety standards in order to open the museum. Paranormal Phenomena has been independently witnessed and recorded at this location!. Including unexplained light anomalies and dark shadows seen in and around the building and aircraft. People have often reported Poltergeist activity and being tapped on the shoulder or having their hair and clothes pulled. The sounds of heavy footsteps and voices have been heard from the hangers but upon investigation, no one is there!. There have also been reports of the manifestation of a pair of legs. Could these be the spirits of airmen still attached to the remains of the aircraft they once flew. Other ghostly sightings include that of a pilot seen wandering around the hangers, many people feel uneasy when they walk around the building. Children have also been seen around the building, their laughter often heard by staff and visitors alike. 14. Do you have the nerve to join The Haunted Realm team for an evening of ghost hunting and paranormal investigations?. The Abbey Inn Leeds, West Yorkshire Wednesday 10th June 2009 10pm till late You have to make your own way to Leeds and Back History In the past the Inn was used as a mortuary and customers had to pass the coffins on the way to the toilets. This perhaps explains the fact that many people believe the Inn to be Haunted. At least four ghosts are reputed to frequent the Abbey Inn.
