We had a copper in the kitchen with a fire underneath for my mother to boil the white laundry. It also doubled as a bath.You can guess what it was like for the last one in when there are 9 children.Your skin came out all stretchy and shinny after the starch residue mother had used for the laundry.But it was great getting dried in front of the fire stood on the new pegged rug.

We would have classed that as a luxury.A toilet foot warmer.

My neighbour was burgled as she was feeding her young son.She prepared his meal then went to feed him in the lounge.The burglars borrowed a clothes prop from two gardens away threaded it through the slightly opened window and hooked her handbag with it.Car keys, plastic cards, driving license the lot.Cost her £300 pound up to now to secure the car against theft & a new license.Makes your blood boil.
