  1. A table top sale will be held at Greenhead Wesleyan Reform Church (opposite Chapeltown Baths) on Saturday 4th August at 10:30am. If you would like a table please contact 07847 571381.
  2. Oh good grief, I think that is me and my friend Louise at the back of the first photo. We used to go every Fri, Sat, Sun and midweek when we could. There was a group of about 8 of us we used to hang around in 'our corner' at the side of the DJ stand. Afterwards we then used to hang around at the corner of Paternoster Row waiting for the bus. God I had good thigh muscles then. Very very very good times. I know i've got some photo's floating around somewhere so I'll put mine up soon when I get sorted.
  3. When I was little we always used to get telephone calls from people asking for Bobby Knutt. My dad was a R Knutt so people just assumed it was the correct name Robert rather than the slang Bobby. That was in the days when the telephone directory was mostly subscribed and 192 was in operation. Elainel
  4. I went to Malin Bridge Infants and Junior School. I particularly remember the music lessons and assemblies in the hall. Will never forget Mrs Tyrzinski (however its spelt) Thursday mornings were a gaping hole of dread, mental arithmetic test. We all had to stand up and she would fire a question at you, if you got it wrong you had to keep standing until you finally got a question right, inevitably I was always one of the last, completely embarrassed and too scared to think straight. Mostly however I have good memories of Malin Bridge, playing rounders in the yard in PE, or British Bulldog at lunchtime. I remember that we used to show our money to the dinner-lady on duty at the gate, we could then go down to Crappers to get a 10p mix-up at lunchtime. The sun always shined and the lunchbreak seemed to last for at least 3 hours. Probably getting a bit rose-tinted now!.
  5. We live in S35 and in the last 4 years we have had.... 1) A terracotta pot put through windscreen of our Peugeot. 2) Attempted break in on another Peugeot some time later, then when that one was being fixed we borrowed my Moms car for a few days which also had ... 3) another attempted break in. Then the Peugeot we were getting fixed got nicked from the front drive of the guy who was doing the job for us. We now have found random dents in the roof of our current car, badges stolen off the back and attempted stolen from the front.... More worryingly whilst in the garage we found that each of the back tyres of the car had a nail driven into the centre of it. This really upset me because we have 2 childs car seats in the back of the car! we transport our babies in it for goodness sake! and someone was so stupid to put us and other road users in danger like that. And don't just assume its the kids that are at fault, we also had my father-in-laws car scraped by someone trying to park their car, they didn't bother owning up, when we finally tracked them down, they only lived round the corner to us and were frankly old enough to know better.
  6. Go for threading, I had mine waxed for years until I tried it and now I am a convert, don't go anywhere else other than Brow Lounge in Debenhams, and then ask for Shabena. Brilliant.
  7. Hi Beth, I am in S35 too. I found it really hard with my 18mo in Chapeltown, plus there is no decent park nearby to go to. Now he is 2 and I also have an 8 month old, tried a toddler group a few times but found it hard to 'break' into, everyone seemed to already know everyone else and I felt like a right lemon yesterday sat there drinking my coffee on my own. Having said that there is a nice small group (therefore easier to mix) at Greenhead Wesleyan on Tuesday mornings. Pm me and you are welcome to come to ours for a coffee and for the babies to play.
  8. Thank you all for taking the time to help me with this. Will get onto some investigating now and let you know what I come up with. I think a trip down to the Sheffield Archives are in order to help me learn where to go for what information.
  9. Yep I meant descendants ... The only details I have about Percy is that he lived on Clematis Road at Wincobank in the 1940's. Percys father was called Robert Winstanley but you are correct, he used Stanley for the Census and for poor Percy's birth certificate. (The family story is that he was sozzled when he registered the birth, probably sozzled during the Census too). And you are spot on with Percys mother being called Florence. I haven't seen the freebmd site before so I will check out the marriage to Fanny Cooper. Thank you so much for taking the time to have a look at this for me.
  10. Hello, I am trying to locate any living ancestors of Percy Stanley who was born in 1892. His father was called Robert Winstanley and his mother was called Florence. Percy had a younger brother called John Winstanley. I understand that Percy had a large family and lived at Wincobank then moved to Millhouses. His brother John lived at Wisewood. I have been doing some family tree research into the Winstanleys / Stanleys and would really like to make contact with Percy's family.
  11. I remember the Wapentake and Rebels with a strong sense of fondness. They were happy, legendary nights and there is no other memory that can bring on that giddy feeling i'd have in my belly everytime I went into both the Wap and Rebels. (Mabye it was something to do with the stairs in both places making me feel giddy? dunno) I recognise most of the people in Fox's photos, Mandy, Dolby, (Kicked his arse at pool a few times) Shane, Chris, Mac, Bog and I am in a couple of them as well. I also remember a few mad Christmasses that we spent going drinking round Walkley. If I am not mistaken is Wendy now an MBE for her work during the floods? I hope that everyone from those days is well. I regret I lost a few friends along the way from those days to now, so I am not in touch with anyone anymore. But those times will stay with me until I die.
  12. Does anyone know of a good babysitter or childminder in the S35 area? Someone who is happy to work on an ad-hoc basis to look after a 5 month old for half a day or so per week?
  13. I am interested in doing some electroforming, however I will need a 10 amp rectifier. I have seen new ones available online, however does anyone have a second hand one available and at what cost?
