Asking for I.D For 'Under 21s' when the law is 18 & Over!
mykelmyers replied to CashBack13's topic in General Discussions
Its not a major crime?? Under the licensing act it is illegal for someone under the age of 18 to attempt to purchase alcohol, unless as part of a test purchase. technically yes it is a major crime in reality alas it is not. Just gets you an ASBO these days. -

My previous rant was based upon the preposterous way that people always moan about ID. If it were not for the fact that people keep blocking ID cards it would make all shop assistants and bar/door staff lives much easier. I loose count the number of times i get called a C**T or a W**ker just because I am doing my job. It is disheartening to see that people continue to complain about the ID issue. I have carried ID since I was 18, its not that big of a deal. It's sad to see that people don't support the fact that pub companies and supermarkets are trying to stop underage people from drinking. If your 15 year old son who looks older came home drunk you would be up in arms and going mad at who ever sold them the alcohol. As a result all retail outlets selling alcohol are as a result being much stricter on ID. Why not just accept the fact and take it as a compliment if asked for ID. We really do have better things to do than waste time arguing with those of you who are lucky enough to look under 21 who refuse to carry ID. -

if they are operating challenge 21 depending on the local council they should accept and card which is backed by the Portman Group and displays the pass hologram. as for the bar staff id people who they want to f@@k off. don't you think on a friday night we have better things to do than **** people off. are you some kind of moron. I know there are 70 people waiting to be served and not enough staff to serve them, i know this kid looks old enough but i will ID him anyways just for s**ts and giggles. I think not. You prove the face you deserve to be ID'd which is displayed by your childish attitude as to being ID'd your under 21 your prob gonna get ID'd don't look surprised when it happens and you asked to leave. -

i work for a big pub company and to say there are inconsistencies between staff asking you for ID. The idea of how old someone is is subjective to each person. I may think you look 21 another may think you are older or younger. Ask 10 people to guess how old you are who don't know you bet you get a range of ages. at the end of the day it is better to be safe than sorry. A citizen card is 7 quid less if you get it through wetherspoons quit moaning and get a form of id that isn't your pasport -
Weatherspoons V Hillsborough local pubs...

Whom ever you are you have been severely misinformed or are making up numbers. There is no way the rawson will have tht many hand pumps. This came form john himself. As for the rest you havent get too long to wait. why judge the pub before it opens. come down and see for yourselves -
i work for the company and have heard bits here and there. they are opening up most of the building and there will be observation platform which will not be open to the public as council fear people will throw/knock bottles and glasses off the balcony. there will be a raised area for live music and also the possablility of a dj box. so it would be more pub by day bar/club by night.
