  1. Is Pure on Raw still open - it looked a bit closed last time I went past? That includes your drink - but if they were sensible - they'd do the drink separately (as virtually everyone will buy one) and penny pinching sheffield folk would think it costs less!
  2. The Cremourne was good - but a bit too busy
  3. For years & years (well over 20) there's been places out in the country that sound system would set up - they were out of everyone's way, there's minimum noise pollution and most people (bar the odd early morning jogger) wouldn't even know they were there - but the last few years seems to have seen more & more outdoor parties in sheffield itself - which just seems idleness on the sound systems part and with the inevitable keeping half of sheffield awake and all the problems that causes.
  4. Burning Man is about $400 a ticket and its not cheap to get transport, all the stuff you need to take etc - its a long way removed from its starting principles!!
  5. I'm entertained at the thought of Burning Man in Low Edges... I think there may be a bit of a culture clash.. but you never know!
  6. mid 90s norwegian balck metal ugandan hip hop berlin techno probably
  7. If you don't want to donate to charities just say "no thanks" - its not hard. People coming up with nonsense excuses to justify their guilt at not giving money annoys me more than chuggers.
  8. And who would you expect to see for 30 quid for the weekend? The Rolling Stones? Considering a gig ticket for a mid sized touring band is at least £20, I think its pretty good value. I spent a few hours at the main stage to see Martha reeves and basement jaxx ( and walked straight in about 6) and didn't think the queues were any worse than similar festivals. And there was a lot more to the festival than being penned in between the burger vans, there were tens of venues all over the city with good and varied stuff on
  9. The York? Pub with large food part in broomhill
  10. I think Nozstock got De La Soul as last minute replacement - which would be a good call. There's some fanciful suggestions on facebook of suitable replacements as well as lots of drivel about it being a scam and somehow the festivals fault. Other than booking a notoriously unreliable act - not sure how the organisers could really be blamed if the act cancel at the last minute
  11. I understand its the whole tour thats been cancelled - not just Tramlines. Though they always had a reputation for being sketchy - even at height of their fame.. only a couple would would often turn up for big gigs.
  12. If there's money to be made - why don't you do it?
  13. thanks - I didn't realise you could filter it by venue - makes it a lot easier than ploughing through hundreds of acts
  14. That is hard to navigate !! I hope the programme has a grid of venues x time so you can get your head round it a bit easier
  15. The very one... I like a decent pint but the Wellington was a little too "specialist" for me.. still it's good to have somewhere for everyone to go - even Real Ale Twits
  16. I remember when the original Trippetts didnt sell beer (full stop) and closed when the last person left..
  17. You could try one of the big vintage shops - sure I saw some in either Cow on west st or the big shop on Division st (next to Sainsburys)
  18. I've got a friend who lives on that bit of Walkley Rd and he reckons there are arguments most nights when cars come from both directions and someone won't reverse (4x4s being the worst culprits) Wasn't there talk of making it one way a few years ago?
  19. None of the (busy) pubs near the Ship Inn are like that though - the pubs round kelham island are like traditional pubs - although with better beer
  20. It doesnt quite work like that in real life though. Putting Cliff's case to one side (as everyone is innocent until proven guilty etc), there have been plenty of high profile cases that were never properly investigated at the time due to a combination of pressure and starstruckness (if thats even a word) and were only properly pursued once the culprit had died
  21. Given the notoriously agressive stance of Cliff Richard's solicitors regarding very long standing accusations - the SYP must either have some very strong grounds to go public - or be completely incompetent.
  22. I think changes in society have far more to do with it. Pubs doing something different have done quite well over recent years. I live in Walkley and the standard local pubs offering one beer and lager in tired surroundings have generally closed. There's a lot more entertainment options than 40 years ago and less need for a "front room" local down the road. Whereaas pubs making an effort are doing well - the Blake has good business going for a real ale crowd as well as locals, and down in Crookesmoor, the Hallamshire & Closed shop are both doing good business with decent beers in nice surroundings
  23. Steal £250 and you end up in court - steal £250 billion and you get a knighthood.
