  1. Horses for courses - Meersbrook is very popular with folk who wouldn't dream of buying a new build estate type house further out for less money. Doesn't mean either are right or wrong - just after different things.
  2. Thanks. Fortunately i was more amused by the OP's reply than anything else!
  3. Blimey - Meersbrook is taking off. Its many years since I lived in Meersbrook (before it was trendy!). i can recall when they were about £90k - but then again Burcot rd houses were about £45k at that same time - which shows you how long ago it was
  4. There's some quite big 4 & 5 bed room houses around Meersbrook Park - Brook Rd etc. which would be in your price range. May be worth a look- though the gardens won't be massive
  5. It was probably the number of stabbings that occurred in & around Niche that made the Police a little touchy (my mate did jury duty on one of them). Thats all a long time ago though - so hopefully all the wannabe gangsters have all settled down or moved on to somewhere else - and people into the music can just go & enjoy it.
  6. Well top marks on the hard work you put in turning around that shop over the years - especially with Asda/Wallmart across the road - i hope it works out for both of you and for the shop.
  7. A more specific CAMRA/Real Ale forum may be more appropriate if you don't fancy randoms throwing their tuppence-worth in
  8. I've got nothing to do with CAMRA - and without knowing the details - but surely its only CAMRA's business in as much as any pub of the month/year type stuff (i.e. not much). I'd have though the proper channels would be the landlord or manager/area manager - or licensing/Police if it was serious enough
  9. You missed Beeches of the (ahem) "Walkley Quarter" and the cafe where you can get eggs benedict, and the other where you can get loads of varieties of tea. I think I prefer the nice shops/cafes to when there were lots of empty shop units.
  10. They'll be wanting the vote next!
  11. How have you managed to log onto the forum from 1956?
  12. Maybe you could explain a bit more about your original post. I'm sure it wasn't racist, or trolling, but maybe others aren't as convinced. .
  13. They did a good job of the refurb - very much in the Dishoom (London chain) mould - but there's worse places to .. er.. "inspired" by. Sensibly just concentrates on a limited menu - and does it well
  14. I'd imagine most clubs are getting geared up for the students getting back - but give it a few weeks and you won't be able to move for nights
  15. You're probably best getting a copy of Exposed magazine or similar for full listings - you can get it in most cafes, clothes shops etc in town In town you've got Tank, Code Warehouse and very recently opened Area all doing dance nights. Plug has mainly mainstream/studenty nights on - but there are outside promotions in the mid sized room with some interesting stuff. Outside of town there's a big warehousey type scene with Hope Works, the Night Kitchen, Arch9 and Yellow Arch all being used by various nights/promoters for techno & house nights (as well as other sorts of nights) all going on until whenever o'clock Hope you find something
  16. In Sheffield over 800 capacity you've got the Octagon, The Hubs (Hallam), City Hall (main hall & memorial hall), Plug and the Leadmill. However you're going to have to pay a lot of money to hire a big venue - they'll get approached all the time about charity events. Unless you've got a track record doing events and they know you'll get a big crowd - and you can cut a deal based on their bar takings - they're unlikely to give much of a discount. If you're new to events - maybe better to start small rather than risk a lot of money.
  17. I preferred the Ponderosa this year to years gone by on Dev Green (which the main stage had outgrown) - especially as they'd sorted many of last years problems. Though by all accounts the festival lost a bob or two - so who knows what will happen next year.
  18. Pretty sure there was some heavy rock going on in a couple of venues including the Dove & Rainbow
  19. There's lots of free stuff going on this weekend to enjoy - peace gardens, leopold square, lots of pubs in/around town, stage in main part of endcliffe park by the stalls etc
  20. There is a stage by the stalls in the main bit of the park that is free, as is the Sunday afternoon at Shepherds Wheel - but the main folk forest stage is ticketed Why is someone else not paying for the good people of S11's entertainment?
  21. Dawn Penn is on the main stage late saturday afternoon - she did the classic "No No No" -beloved of all reggae cover bands and pub discos - and still a cracking tune
  22. I've not seen a line up - but the Peace Gardens is probably your best bet on Saturday - there's bound to be at least one reggae band on
  23. There's loads of free stuff going on - most pubs in/around town, the peace gardens, the small stage by the stall in Endcliffe park (the main folk forest is ticketed). I want to see George Clinton - and that'd be £20/£25 to see him on his own if he was at the 02 - so I wouldn't say £36 for a weekend's music is expensive.
  24. They are all quite different - I think Mavili on Glossop Rd has the nicest food and most restaurant like. Rama's Bridge is bit hit n miss. I've enjoyed East West as a cafe/take away, Arusuvai hs a lot of character but can be a bit random. I tried out the new take away on Ecclesall and really enjoyed their doss's. I haven't yet been to the one at the bottom of the Moor yet. I quite like Urban Choola - but I thought it was north indian style food? Great that Sheffield is starting to have more choice food wise though
