  1. Thankyou for your kind words, they mean a lot. I will never understand why people feel the need to come onto a thread and start ranting when they don't know the full facts. I have spoken to recruitment and it was an error in the hours so I will be working 16 hours for the salary that they first stated so I am really pleased. Its been a long time since I did any job hunting, I cant believe how much times have changed, still its all experience. I start on Monday, I am going to order the disclosure thing now, we are a bit skint this month but it will be worth it when I get my first wage in 3 years.
  2. i actually have 2 children. I am 35 years old, i have never been out of work until i had my daughter. My partner and i decided that i would stay at home and look after our children until our youngest starts school. He works shifts so child care can be awkward. I have never signed on and i dont expect other peoples taxes to 'keep me'. I dont claim any benefits and my partner works full time plus over time to pay our mortgage and bills. Please dont make assumptions about me because your couldn't be further from the truth. Like i said, its not the 23 pounds, its the principle that i am going back to work for the same company i worked for previously for 8 years. And now they have messed up my contract.
  3. Its not about the £23.00 as such, its more to do with the fact that I have literally had to jump through hoops, and I used to work there. I only left to have a baby! I still had to "prove" that I was born in this country and that I can work in the UK. I had to do 4 different assessments to get the job offer, even though the job is the same as I did 3 years ago. And to top it all I have received the contract this morning and the hours are wrong. I wanted 16 hours and the contract states 17.5 hour, so if the salary they offered is for 17.5 hours and I only want 16 hours the salary will be about £600 per year less. The salary range for full time is between 12k and 15k, and I would be down at the bottom of the scale. I accept I haven't worked for them for 3 years but still, I have experience not just doing a similar job, but this blooming job surely, offering the lowest salary is taking the mick a little bit! I am beginning to think I wont bother, something else will come along, but then the other half of me thinks to still take it but as soon as something else comes up I will jump ship!
  4. I did post this in the business and employment section because it is about employment and recruitment but someone in their wisdom has moved it to general discussions. How strange! and they just moved it back again. I think Im getting dizzy!
  5. I wonder if I can pick some brains on here as to whether this is right. I left my least place of work 3 years ago. I didn't get another job or leave on bad terms, I left to have a baby and due to child care or rather lack of reliable child care I couldn't return after my maternity leave. Fast forward 3 years and I am now looking for a part time job. They are few and far between, and the part time jobs that are out there require almost impossible flexibility when you have a couple of kids to consider. So I looked into going back to where I used to work. I went along to an interview, then a assessment day, I jumped through all sorts of hoops proving I can work in this country (I worked for them for over 8 years previously doing the very job that I have applied for) and now they contact me with a week until I start work with them telling me that I have to pay £23 for a basic disclosure because I haven't been working or claiming benefits. It all seems just so extreme. And a basic disclosure will only tell them if I have any unspent convictions, so not really a true reference is it? Does it seem like they are being particularly obstructive or is this what its like trying to get a job these days. If this is what its like job hunting Im beginning to think I would be better at home being a lady of leisure while I send my OH out to earn all the money!
  6. Just to add to this thread, I was offered a job at Alpharooms a couple of weeks ago. I went in on the Friday to discuss what hours I would like etc. "that's no problem, I will speak to the ops manager and give you a call on Monday or Tuesday to confirm that its ok and tell you when to start" the customer service manager told me. Monday and Tuesday came and went and no phone call. I decided that I no longer wanted to work there anyway having being offered a job elsewhere, but still! So I emailed them, informing them that I didn't want the job and could no longer wait for them to get in touch. I have heard nothing from them at all, only an auto response email. What an unprofessional company, seems like I had a lucky escape.
  7. I had a very strange phone call last night from a man called Kieron representing a company called Virgo. He was very upbeat and friendly, gushing about how they are in my area and have just been working on a Mr and Mrs Turners property on Kings Road! "Sorry, where did you say?" I asked, "we are at Mr and Mrs Turners house on Kings Road" he said very cheerfully. "Im sorry but there is no Kings Road in Sheffield" I reply. Poor, poor Kieron, he went very quiet and then said sorry before hanging up. So Virgo, if you are going to cold call people in the Sheffield area and you are giving your advisor's a script, at least make it relevant to the area that they live in.
  8. Phwoar, can you imagine GSP and Shogun there? Still gutted though, would have loved to have gone along and met them both. Were they signing the now UFC Game?
  9. when were they there? I am gutted that we missed it, i love ufc.
  10. The article make its sound like it was a one off her taking her partners car, however, she always used to drive her kid to school. I once saw her reverse into one of the other mums parked cars. And her kids were so important that they had to be driven into the school grounds, but no one was allowed to drive into the grounds. They would drive out of the school and virtually run you over because they wanted to get out. All that with no insurance or license.
  11. No, the field is just behind my house. There is little for older kids to do because its just a field. And I can stand on my back garden and see my son playing and if he needs me he can shout and I will hear him. Placing a toilet block on the field would have attracted older kids to hang out there, like they hand around phone boxes or bus shelters, usually because it gives them something to climb on, write on or just try to wreck. And I know not all older kids are like that, its the minority that spoil it for the majority, but it still happens. The play ground and skate park are where the trouble usually is. It is the playground that I have found used syringes, so I assume that drug addicts hang about in there. I have also found used condoms and the floor is littered with broken glass and cider/lager cans. Or at least it was about 12 months ago, I vowed never to go back and never let my kids play on there.
  12. I received an email on Tuesday saying that the application was withdrawn.
  13. Hi Bethsmummy, I hope that you and your little Ellie are ok. I cant really give any answers about how to get them to admit their mistake, but I strongly advise you to follow it up. When I was having my first baby I had a terrible pregnancy. Morning sickness started at around 16 weeks and I was really swollen but no one really took this seriously. At 24 weeks I went to see a GP, this was a locum, but he was great. He noticed that my BP was up a little and there was a trace of protein, that coupled with the swelling, sickness and the headaches made the alarm bells ring and he sent me straight to hospital. At the hospital I was made to feel like I was being mardy. It was a Friday night/Saturday morning. They were supposed to be doing a 24 hour urine collection but after being in hospital for a little over 12 hours I was sent home with my ears ringing by a major "telling off". A doctor along with a midwife stood at the end of the bed and told me that the next time I feel ill I should phone my midwife and that way I wont be wasting their time. I was so embarrassed. Maybe I was being mardy I thought. At 26+5 I began to cough. My neck and face were so badly swollen that I was being choked by my necklace. I called my midwife. She came out and my BP and protein were off the scale. I was rushed into hospital were I had my son the next day by emergenct c section. It was horrendous and totally avoidable. I had severe pre eclampsia and my kidneys were failing. They had developed "holes" and they were breaking down. Stupidly I never followed it up. I still get upset by what happened amd I can still see the doctor and midwife tearing a strip of of me. My son is a healthy 8 year old now, too late for me to do anything, but an apology would have been nice.
  14. I think she means bench. She mentions that the school has put some pub style benches in the playground.
  15. Never actually thought about that!!! Thanks!
  16. That has been asked by everyone that we have spoken to. Surely it would be more cost effective to pay for porto loos that can be taken away. The upkeep of a permanent toilet block will be expensive. Surely the people who want to use such facilities would have no problem contributing a small sum of money each time they have a meet. Or is it that they want it for nothing? It is the immediate residents that will suffer from these toilets being put here. That's not just my opinion either, its the opinion of everyone that we have spoken to. There is over 4 pages of signatures from local residents who don't want these toilets here. Surely the fact that people who live here state the same thing means there must be some truth in it.
  17. I think there may be a problem then, if they aren't going to be on the actual playing field. You see, I have studied the plans and they clearly show that the toilets are going to be on the playing field, no where near the road. Also, there is no changing room within the toilets, just 3 toilets, 2 urinals and 3 wash basins. Either the plans are wrong or you have been misled. I will also second what bicpm said, as residents that over look the park we don't want a toilet block there. We feel that its unnecessary . The people who do want it there are the ones who come to use the park but then go home, it wont affect them when they go home. It might be a good idea in principle, however, once people go home we will be left with a local "meeting" point for youths who think its ok to vandalise things and make other peoples lives difficult. It will also attract drugs. As I have already stated, people deal drugs outside of my home. The police do nothing to stop it. Once, in broad daylight we witnessed a heroin addict injecting heroin in a van parked outside my home. He was there 40 minutes and the police didn't bother turning up. And before anyone questions whether it was heroin, he used a spoon and lighter to "cook" it and he injected it into his groin. This was at about 11am on a Friday. I'm sorry if I cant bring myself to be all positive about this toilet block, but I know it will bring trouble. Every one I have spoken to about it knows it will bring trouble. The only people who want it are the people who can use it and go home. It wont affect them. We wont be able to use it, not that we would want to. The money would be better spent on putting the playground right. You know, replacing the stolen swings and fencing and clearing up the mess. And no one seriously mentioned "gay men". Some one who came onto the thread and was sarcastic, "what about the gay men dear". Its vandals and drugs that concern all of the local residents who overlook the park.
  18. Its been happening to me tonight on Virgin, and they use the T mobile network. Its sooo annoying!
  19. Just discovered what a NIMBY is. Not in my back yard. Sad thing is, at first I thought that the toilet block was way over at the other side of the park, and I sent my objection to the council. In reality it wouldn't really affect me if it was at the other end of the park, however, I still felt that it was a bad idea, and I still took the time to object. It was only when I was visited by my neighbours that I realised that it was on my doorstep, so I sent a second objection, this time stating that it would look awful dumped in the middle of the field. Its not for the greater good. Its for a couple of dozen people to use maybe once a month. In the mean time we have to put up with the trouble it will bring. The council paid £800,000 for the park to be built 4 years ago. Its now a no go area. There is virtually nothing left in the playground and according to several skateboarding websites, the skate park is a no go too. It was a good idea, but sadly it was wasted. Most local parents don't take their children to the park. The last time I went there were used condoms and a couple of syringes on the floor. I reported it to the council and vowed not to go back.
  20. Call me thick, but whats a NIMBY? We have a big problem around here with drug taking, people actually deal drugs outside my home. I hate drugs and all they stand for. I hate feral kids who think its ok to smash things up. Sorry if you are all "pc" and you see the good in what I think are undesirables, but thats the way it is. I dont what an dirty, ugly toilet block just metres away from my home. Do you know the area? Would you want to encourage even more anti social behaviour to an area which is already suffering? Last Saturday night a 15 year old apparently got mugged on Halliwell Crescent. I don't know him, never seen him in fact, but a toilet block would be another place where people like the 3 men who mugged this boy would hide. They would then be able to get whoever walks through the dark unlit park when they are walking through at night on their way back from the pub. And no dear, gay men wont be "cruising for sex" as you put it. They would get mugged for their moble phones!!
  21. 4 pages! that's great. I just hope that those people go to the website and object officially. Even if half of them object the council planners surely have to think twice before even considering granting the permission.
  22. It just really worries me that its may already be a done deal, what with the TARA working hand in hand with the council. That's why I thought I'd email one of the councillors, see what he has to say about it. Could do with a bit of support from someone in the know, if you know what I mean?
  23. I have put a link on the facebook page, all people have to do is click on the link and it should take them to the planning application, you then click at the top of the page where it says submit comments. Linky here: http://planning.sheffield.gov.uk/publicaccess/tdc/DcApplication/application_detailview.aspx?caseno=L272LWNY0HL00
  24. Exactly! But, if I had received a newsletter from TARA telling me that there was to be a meeting to discuss sticking a steel porto cabin style toilet block where I let my son go and play on the field I would have gone and made my feelings perfectly clear. But I haven't had a TARA newsletter for months. Maybe its because they didn't want us to know that they were planning a steel toilet block with the hope that we wouldn't read the notices and we wouldn't object. I have, this evening, emailed our local councillor. With a bit of luck we might get him on our side. It puts a bit more weight behind our objections. Up to now there has been 4 objections on the planning website. People who object must tell the council their objections through the proper channels as well as signing the petition. How is the petition going, by the way? Was going to pop across later, but I can ask you on here.
