  1. See the link regarding the dd guarantee. Mistakes can and do happen. Your bank doesn't know the amount agreed, that is between you and the company. The bank will take your word for it if you tell them something is wrong. If no mistake has been made, you will have to repay the money to the company.
  2. You don't need to fill any forms in for a direct debit anyway. A car insurance company would write to you with your new quote. It normally says that if you don't cancel your insurance policy with the company they will begin to take the new premium. As a rule, the customer has complete control over a direct debit, it can be cancelled at any time and if too much money is taken or if it is taken on the wrong day you are guaranteed a full and immediate refund from your bank. See here http://www.thesmartwaytopay.co.uk/DirectDebitExplained/Pages/DirectDebitGuarantee.aspx
  3. Yes it does, and under the direct debit guarante if the amount differs from the advanced notice amount your bank will give you a full and immediate refund.
  4. I work for a bank, all you need to do is call your bank and ask them to cancel the direct debut. The direct debit guarantee states that you can cancel at any time by telling your bank. Once you have spoken to your bank call british gas and inform them that you have cancelled it. You could have also had the direct debit recalled the same day as a direct debit indemnity. The company must inform you of a change of amount, that is what the direct debit gkuarantee states. Hope this helps.
  5. We bought our son one from here http://www.boxroombeds.com/. They are based in Sheffield and will make them to custom sizes. It weren't cheap but was fantastic quality and great service.
  6. I would like to recommend corgigasman( http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/member.php?u=84115 ) who has been today and serviced my boiler and sorted a leaking overflow. He arrived on time and explained everything to me which I thought was fantastic and his price was more than reasonable. Thanks Steve.
  7. This sounds just like what my son was like from approx 18 months to age 5. The doctor would say it was asthma but the sprays made the cough worse. He would cough til he was sick and lose so much weight it was frightening. In desperation we would take him to the hospital and they would prescribe antibiotics which would clear the cough up for a while then it would return. We did a bit of research and found out that it could be his tonsils and adenoids causing the problem. One doctor agreed and prescribed a steroids nasal spray which did work. Anyway, to cut a long story short, he wad referred to have them removed and the cough has never returned. May be worth a mention to your doctor because if we hadn't suggested it they would still be insisting it was asthma.
  8. We went yesterday evening for a meal. It was still informal, find a table and go to the bar to order. They did take dessert orders from us at our table though which was nice and they fetched us drinks. The meals that we had were lovely and we will go back there.
  9. And what do you suppose we do? I keep my son away aynd I call th police when there is trouble.
  10. Sadly they won't get what's coming to them. They will be released with a slap on the back of the hand and told to go and play nicely. Same old story. No nice kids can play on the park because of the feral scum that hangs about on there. We did start letting our son have a bit of freedom and play on the park but we have stopped that now. It's not worth the trouble and the decent kids get no protection.
  11. I live very near to the park and its pretty much a no go area. My son has been chased from the park on more than one occasion by a gang (he is 10) and we have called the police. I have got to say that the police and others in authority are in complete denial about what goes a on. Apparently, according to the police there is no trouble http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=782824, the haven't been called to any incidents. Funny that, I have called them at least once.

  13. Santander are recruiting too. It's opposite meadowhall retail park.
  14. From reading the reviews some people have no problems so have no need to contact them. The trouble starts if you need to speak to someone. They dont answer their phones apparently, and they leave you waiting for 30 and 40 minutes running up your phone bill on an 0845 number. A company with such bad feedback should be treated with caution.
  15. They are a right mickey mouse set up. Do a google search for alpharooms reviews, they are terrible. I went for a job interview for them last august and the sales manager was concerned that i might have read about how bad they are but he said he was turning that around. I got offered the job and was told that he was going to call me but he never did. I had read all about them and decided that i wasn't going to take the job anyway, i had a much better offer! Dont touch them unless you can afford to lose money, just read the reviews.
  16. our old xbox got rrod so my oh bought a similar kit from ebay for about a fiver. we didnt hold out much hope of it working but thought it was worth a try. it took him about an hour and half to do and the xbox works a treat now, its still going strong over 2 months later. :-)
  17. It all depends how much the cheque was for. The charges are on i sliding scale. If the cheque is under £10, the charge is £5, Between £10 and £20 the charge is £15, between £20 and £30 the charge is £25 and finally above £30 the charge is £35. If you have not had charges before or not had a charge reversed it the last 12 months they will reverse it for you.
  18. The Lloyds pharmacy on Halifax Road is a joke. All of the staff are related or mates some way or another and they ignore their customers, favouring standing around chatting about "our Brenda" or what they are going to do at the weekend. The last time I went in was a couple of weeks ago. All I wanted was a packet of razors. In the queue was an old gentleman and I was behind him. 3 staff were stood near the nappies chatting away. After a few minutes several more people came in and joined the queue, but they were so into their very important conversation that they ignored us. 10 minutes later I threw the razors on the unmanned counter and walked out. I now walk up to Wolf Road pharmacy should I need medicines, they are friendly and efficient, something that the staff at Lloyds are in desperate need of training in.
  19. I spoke to payroll/hr again yesterday. I was told that it is correct, this is how they work it out because "its easier" and that "they cant sit and put everyones hours into the system". So people are meant to lose out because they have a "system" that they find easy. On the plus side the lady that I spoke to also agreed that although its technically correct, its very wrong that I have worked my 16 hour week and have been paid only half of what I should get per week, so she is going to call me back later today. My manager also got back to us and said that she had been given the same response and she didnt feel that this was fair so she is trying to get us they money that we feel that we are owed by taking it to to her manager and the head of HR. Thanks Alexc for the info that you have found out for me. I certainly wouldnt know where to look for anything like that, google on this occasion was no help to me what so ever! They deffinately have my start date down as 27 September. It does work out that if you take my annual salary £6171 and divide it by 365 days in the year and then multiply by 4 days that I worked in September you get £67.63. It may well work out to peoples benefit if there is a couple of weeks and they include the wekends in the days worked but as it stands at the moment I worked my full working week of 16 hours for £67.63, not £118.67 as it should be. I went to work my first week, having lost my tax credits because it takes our family income to over the threshold, for a loss. It cost money going to work that week.
  20. The figures that I have stated are all gross. I have contacted HMRC who advised me to speak to ACAS as this is more to do with employment law. I suspect that I will get no where and will have to swallow the fact that I have worked 16 hours Monday to Thursday for £67 before tax. That works out at £4.19 per hour for that week. When I took the job I told tax credits and my credits have now stopped, I used to get about £70 per week from tax credits, so straight away I was £3 down, it cost me £12 for a tram pass and £1.30 per day in bus fares so for working that week I lost £20.20. Brilliant.
  21. Actually I have worked it out wrong, it isn't just £30 they have short paid me by, its more like £60. I am thinking that it was just for 3 days in September that I worked, it isn't, it is actually 4, (27th to 30th) my full working week. I should get roughly £120 per week, but I have been paid just £68.00 for 4 x 4 hour shifts. Which ever way I look at it it just cannot be right! So technically I have worked the full week for just £4.22 per hour, that's well below the minimum wage! I don't think that they take 1 30th off of your monthly wage if you are sick either, I would lose one full days pay.
  22. Yes it an annual salary, but I am contracted to work 4 x 4 hourly shifts per week. I can work any day Monday to Sunday, but only 4 days out of 7. When I check on my employers HR Intranet it gives me an annual salary and also an hourly rate. It also states that I work 64 hours per 4 week period.
  23. I don't think that would count though because from next month I will get 1 months salary, so one twelfth of my annual salary. It is just for those 4 days. I used to work in a payroll department for a small company 10 years ago and I have never heard of paying a daily rate based on an employee working 365 days per year. I kept quoting to the person in payroll the minimum wage and although it was over the phone a could sense him "shrugging his shoulder". Its not a small company I work for either, its a large bank!
  24. I have recently started a new job and last week I received a payment into my account. The payment was supposed to be for the 4 days that I worked in September. When I tried to work it out it just didn't go, either by hourly pay or daily pay. I called payroll yesterday to ask them how it has been worked out and what they told me seems mighty unfair and wrong. I work a 4 day week, therefore I work 208 days per year. When they worked out the wages for the 4 days I worked they took my annual salary and divided it by 365 days and multiplied it by 4. Its not only myself that they did this to, there are 9 other people. The person in payroll insisted that this is correct even though I don't work 365 days per year. He told me that "this is how we do it" and that it wouldn't automatically correct itself next month. As it stands for that week I earned £4.20 per hour, which is below that minimum wage. My manager "is going to look into it to check its right" but what do I do if they say its correct. Its not a great deal of money to lose to be honest, about £30.00, but as there are 9 other people, as a collective it is a lot of money. Do any other companies work wages out this way or is they person in payroll wrong? On my contract of employment it says that "part months will be paid at the appropriate rate" I took this to mean appropriate to me, but the person in payroll told me that its "appropriate to them!" Sorry for the long post, I just hope someone can give me some info as to where I stand.
