OK...my thoughts...
Redgates was I think taken over by Zodiac Toys Ltd towards the end of the late 1980's. Like previous posters have mentioned Zodiac refurbished the store. Internet research indicates that Zodiac Toys Ltd was a medium sized toy retailer based in small/medium sized towns and cities.
I seem to remember a logo on the side and front of the old building with a rainbow going over a redgate and the letters "Toy World" underneath. The Rainbow was the logo for Zodiac Toys.
Does anyone know of a photo knocking about of Redgates to prove my suspicsions?
Redgates/Zodiac must have closed in Spring 1991, because I remember the Zodiac store in Chesterfield, with a notice in the window "Store Closed company in Administration", time of a birthday so I remember well.
I remember Hamleys as well. Think that closed about 1992/1993 ish.
Any photos of Interior/Exterior of Redgates anyone??? Super much missed place
