Martin Lewis: Financial Education A Bloody Farce.
Beamish replied to aardvark6535's topic in General Discussions
The government doesn't want us to understand finances and tax. If we did we would see how we're being ripped off. Tax laws are complicated for a reason. -
This is Broughton Lane as it was. The small boy on the left is just coming from Campbell Rd. onto Broughton Lane. The next left is Ravenworth Rd. the one after that is Melville Rd. My nan's house was in the first yard on the left on Ravenworth rd. Her front door is in the first row on the left. All of this is now the Arena Car Park. On the right, the house with the bay windows was Mr Keen's house, a Haulier. Next to that is a Tetley pub, The Bird in Hand. Further down on the right past the lorry is where the KFC and Taco Bell now stand. I spent most of my school holidays in this area.

Which Sheffield Pubs Are Serving Draft Stella
Beamish replied to Grumpycatweasel's topic in Going out in Sheffield
Perch Brewhouse, Garden Street. Great place, great vibe and great drinks. But don't tell anyone. -
In the OP I would say the vehicle driving straight on would have the right of way as it will not cross the other vehicles path. Where both vehicles are turning right, as long as they pass behind each other so as not to obscure each others view, all should be good. Most numpties ignore this practice at the Prince of Wales Rd/ Beaumont road junction. Just my opinion.

So It Is Ok For Us To Pay For Those That Don't.

That must be illegal. -
Personally I find it offensive that the State Pension is called a 'Benefit'. It is our money that we were forced to pay into a corrupt scheme.

Want To Move To Sheffield From South
Beamish replied to sylviyauk's topic in Sheffield Property & Housing
Sheffield is the greenest city in Europe with more trees than people. Yorkshire is like one big friendly village. -
"Secondly, there is no legal obligation for cyclists to have insurance" Exactly.
-
If you are going to use the roads without insurance to cover any damage you may cause, why would you expect someone else to pay you. Insurance-paying road users don't need uninsured road users pushing up the premiums.

It was probably The Broughton. The pub had quite a large room at the back and was popular with Teddy boys and girls in its day.

Two years of state pension have been taken away.

When I left school and started work I, like everyone else, was forced to pay in a compulsory government scheme on the 'promise' of being paid a pension to live on when I retired at 65. Now, as I am nearing retirement age, apparently there isn't enough money in the pot. Where has MY MONEY gone? It is just plain FRAUD, perpetrated by each and every successive government.

As most have said, a laptop with an SSD for working on and an external mechanical HDD for storage. IMHO mechanical HDD are better for storage. When an SSD fails you tend to lose everything, mechanical HDD's tend to fail a sector at a time so you have a chance at rescuing most stuff.

I'm not familiar with MAC's but on a PC, Windows Media Player has an option to 'RIP' a CD to create MP3 files. I would think there is similar on a MAC. You can then put the MP3 files into iTunes and/or onto a USB stick or whatever you want.

Can anyone remember these CB radioers from 1980s?

I'm told AM is now legal. -
I would say insurance is priced according to what they think they can get away with. Auto renewal prices are usually relatively high but can be reduced easily with a phone call. Insurance is a law unto itself and is not an exact science hence the vast variation in quotes. A company who has been good for one is going to be slagged off by someone else. If you have the time to ring round and play them off against each other, do it. You won't find out if they are any good until you need them which hopefully you won't. I always use comparison sites and go with what looks like a good deal (including any 'free' options, breakdown and windscreen cover etc.) Good luck

The NHS was fine for years. Why is it struggling now? Answers on a postcard please. -
If the figures in the first post are correct, my question is, "Is a train driver worth that much more than a nurse?"

You can't stay stuck in the past. The area was a hustle and bustle in its heyday but the industrial landscape of the city has changed and things have to evolve and move on. Until recent years the area was run down, derelict and abandoned. Anything that gets people down that area and making use of the old buildings rather than demolish them is a good thing IMHO.
