  1. Because i only joined last night, and obviously unlike you...I am capable of making mistakes! You could have ignored it...but i'm guessing you guys just like positing negative comments!
  2. you're like my ex-wife...always complaining at me being late...lol..i only joined last night....and just wanted to help! I would have thought that threads this old were automatically deleted!
  3. I'm not from Sheffield but I think it's a great place. As for class divide...I thought if you were rich you'd be living in Kensington or Manhatten? My point being that it doesn't take much (i.e. postcode) for some folk to look down at others does it! Predisposed genetics Pete! I would have thought that by staying within the same class (i.e. classes sticking together) that this would reduce the gene pool... so us common classes should survive them and benefit from the wealth of good genes! You know, I blame the media and advertising on the class issue... our kids are inundated with labels, posh toys, etc. even barbie has a car, a house, a boat, a horse... so don't you think that your kid is going to want one in real life? And if they think they deserve one, well.. that's the kind of teachin that makes them look down on those that don't have!
  4. I've had similar Jon...all good advice in here! Time does heal, just let your feelings out even if alone by yourself cos it's natural to go through hurt, anger, sadness, emptiness...all the above and perhaps more besides!! But remember that you take a piece of them with you...it's the good memories! One day these throughts will come into your head and you'll laugh at maybe funny times you shared and start to remember all the things that made your relationship special! Time is the most precious gift we will ever share with another person...loss is simply a measure of how much you valued that time...
  5. If your sure you never had the noise before, then it could be rust inside your piston chambers, this is because some valves may be open when the engine stopped and obviously on exhaust they lead out, so moisture can get in. So it may dissapear! It's not good to rest car engines for this very reason, better to start it up every week when not using it. Run till engine gets up to normal temp, if it doesn't go soon after then take it to a garage forth with!
  6. Great comments above, but any 'soft' material will help (yes, including the eggboxes - but maybe not that effective). Even furniture will improve the Mean Absorption Coefficient of the room. Carpet the floor, then cork the walls, and polystyrene tile the ceiling for a cheap diy job.
  7. The heat from the radiator will rise up, but would also generate heat on the side wall of the PC. It should be fine, not forgetting that PC heats up considerably with CD rom use too (feel the discs from the player in your car!). You are more likely to see more heat problems by putting your PC into the designated area in PC desks, which rarely have adequate ventilation!
  8. Lurch you are spot on with the EMC advice! If you can connect at all, then the problem isnt the modem (unless there is an intermittent fault of course). Also heavy traffic may STOP you connecting and SLOW down your connection...but it doesn't make you LOSE connection. Anything from a phone call to your house, a lightening strike or any electrical devices nearby will generate EMC noise and will affect your ADSL signal. The problem is that phone cabling is unshielded. You need it to be as short as possible and well away from any power cables! A simple test is relocate to close to the BT socket (if you have a cordless phone then unplug it) then try again..if you have no problems then it's an EMC issue! You can buy better microfilters (and some are crap) ADSL Nation XF-1e are very good and resolved my issues, as i only lost my connection when plugging in the cordless phone. (by the way - i'm an EMC mains filter designer) In addition to Savannahs comments which are true, high frequency noise doesn't have to be physically connected to your phone line. e.g. conducted - direct via cordless phone / indirect via lightening strike radiated - mobile phone / walkie talkie

  10. I switched to talktalk before summer and only just got the service but no modem (still using my old one), with TT broadband is free and with tiscali the calls are free...so gues what.. for months i was payiing for both! And the chargeable calls i was making to resolve the problems! I think they were inundated with calls after they offered free line rental - so in honesty, they are £10/mth cheaper! Payback now though is probably a year b4 I realise the saving due to their incompetance.
  11. Rich..it's down to your area..they install more exhanges (i.e. closer to you..and hey-ho you go faster). I'm on same speed as you, and was told a few months.. that was over a year ago...just gotta wait m8!
  12. Just to add to these comments..you can do work on existing wiring in your house...anything south of the fuse box. Kitchen and bathroom included (but you must fit appliances that are zated for these zones - e.g. a bathroom light holder will say which bathroom zone it is suitable for..above the shower for instance or only above non high-humidity areas). You cannot add new circuitry without having Part P 16th Edition in domestic installations. Hope this sheds more light.. (excuse the pun)
  13. LCD definitely...but get HD ready! There's new technology upcoming too called Organic LCD...apparently they are ultra low power and resolution will be better than anything... downside?.. won't be available for probably another 3yrs.
