Age UK Book/Record Shop, Broomhill, Closes Today
JIbbo replied to Charlie48's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Irony is a "charity" closing a shop that relies on the work of volunteers to run it being closed due to it not making enough money by selling freely donated goods...... -
FYI SWFC bought the land at Hillsborough when it was all green fields well before any housing. The housing built up around the football ground, not the other way round.

I'm sure the NHS are quite happy to treat sporting injuries. Means the person is leading an active lifestyle and less likely to have chronic health and expensive long term problems ---------- Post added 13-02-2014 at 10:08 ---------- Such as shame about the ski village. All the interviews with the skiing people were complaining about how small the indoor slopes are at castleford excape, etc. The Ski Slope used to have its own half-pipe and mogul run for example.

Looking at the metoffice charts, there is a real chance we might get quite a bit more than the 'light dusting' predicted by the bbc IMHO It's also due 1st thing in the morning. Not seen any signs of the gritters either.... Just a word of morning it, might be chaos I think...

Happening in Costa in the eccy road precinct as well. Overheard a conversation that people were coming in and looking for phones / wallets to nick that were on display in the tables. Police informed. Be careful and look after your gear.

Is it going to snow? 2012 - 2013 snow thread
JIbbo replied to SHEFCYCLREP's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
If Anyone thinks sheffield is bad they should try derbyshire. Was driving in from the Hope Valley this morning. Main Froggatt Edge road closed. No signs saying road shut, snow drifts feet high on road. Was passable saturday afternoon...... Then had to go to Grindleford. Same again road shut. Only access is via hathersage into sheffield. Sheffield is MUCH better than derbyshire at the moment.... -
for all those alluding to the fact that the op mentioned a school. Does the username 'mop head' not give something away ? The op is likely to be a memeber of the cleaning staff etc. Not a actual teacher. and with respect to the op, you are legally able to refuse to pay for car parking. The school can't under law take this out of your payslip, without you agreeing to it as its a change in conditions of your contract of employment.

Endcliffe Vale road - Dangerous traffic calming measures ?
JIbbo replied to JIbbo's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
So what are the causality rates on the road for the last ten years. lived in the area for at least that length of time, and not known ONE serious crash or injury on the road. Definition of safe can't be turning left from a quiet road into on-coming traffic on the wrong side of the road ? -
Endcliffe Vale road - Dangerous traffic calming measures ?
JIbbo replied to JIbbo's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
its awful to cycle down due to potholes. However it WAS nice and safe due to the width giving you loads of room as a cyclist. There not mutually exclusive. -
Sheffield City council in their infinite wisdom have decided to install traffic calming measures on endcliffe vale road. 1) To confuse people, i cycle, drive and walk on this road depending on the time, so i think i have a reasonable perspective for all interested parties. 2) At the end of endcliffe grove avenue, if you want to turn left, you are now facing traffic coming on the wrong side of the road. Its the same all along this road now if your pulling out of a side junction. Its actually quite dangerous and won't be long before an accident occurs. 3) If you are cycling on the road it used to fantastic, really wide and safe. These measures now force cyclists into the middle of the road and again the potential for accidents has increased. I'd love to meet the person whom thought taking a safe road with no accidents on it, and has designed possibly the WORST traffic calming measures i've ever seen and are seriously dangerous imho. Its a complete and utter waste of money and a serious shambles. The road is awful to cycle down as well. The least they could have done is filled in the bloody pot holes down it. This would have benefited EVERYONE. Sorry Rant over
