I don't think so , I'm not infamous..... Home Education was the best thing in the world for me, it allowed me to grow into the person I am today, it didn't hinder me in the slightest, although I would say with retrospect that it does depend on the personality of the child. As to whether they'd be suitable for it and indeed it for them.

Hi I was home educated from 11-16 prior to that I attended a state infant and primary school.

Just thought I'd stick my oar in with.. I was home educated so I can report on the end result and the perspective of a child in that educational situation..if anyone's interested.

Hiya everybody Just a quick roll call, who'd be up for a parents meet up in Hillsborough in the next few weeks? If I narrow it down to Monday or Tuesday 09:30-12:00 or 13:00-15:00 this will allow anyone with children at school to collect them First thing that springs to mind for me is either a pub beer garden type thing or park if the weather is nice or a coffee somewhere in Hillsboro' all ideas welcome

Hi All Just a quick bit of advice required, my daughter came home from school with a sunflower seedling in a plastic cup, but I'm not sure what to do with it? I don't want it to die and I don't have the best history with plants - they tend to die on me :s will it be ok as is, or does it need replanting and if so how/where ? thanks in advance

Hi All as there seems to be interest in the idea of a parents group in the north sheff area, I just thought I'd float the idea of perhaps a picnic in the park? or coffee in hillsborough? I chose hillsborough as I think it's fairly accessible for all (fairly good transport links and parking if it's required. Let me know what you all think Just to stress this is a group for parents (mums, dads, grandparents, step-parents etc, although kids are more than welcome, especially are parents with a bit of free time without the kids PM if interested ...

Hi All I think we all know how lonely it can be as a parent, especially if you're doing it alone. It occured to me recently (and I think I'm not alone) that I focus most of my energy on work and the school-run :s....so I've decided it's time to "get a life" happy mum - happy child .... After spending the last 2 years mothering and working my ass off, It'd be nice to get together and socialise with adults again anyone else interested in a weekly coffee and chat? I'm based in the north of the city but can travel.

Hi Guys I was just wondering if anyone who doesn't work full-time would be interested in starting a midweek daytime walkers group, I myself work only part-time and do tend to waste my days off sitting around doing nothing, it'd be nice to get out and about anyone interested?

Hiya I don't know of any in the firvale area, but would recommend DL Auto's on Rutland Road, they've never let me down and they're not too far if you can't find anywhere closer.... Hope this helps a bit x

Thanks for the comments BoroughGal, the point of this post was not to "give up" so thanks but wanted to bring this debate into the public domain so that some solution may be found - I know a fair few council people and other organisations read these posts, so hopefully the planning department or highways will take a note.... I'm not bitching, I'm hoping that some solution will be reached, so that... Police don't have to waste their time patrolling schools during the afternoons Parents aren't needlessly fined Children aren't put at risk & Buses can pass without hindrance As a relative new user of this site, I'd read posts before and hoped that I could at least express my views on here to try and bring the issue to the powers that be. Being criticised and attacked for this has not been a pleasant experience.

No chip, point noted - As I said which YOU ignored, I will respect whatever rules are put in place, I think that the zig-zags should be extended before tickets are dealt out, not too much to ask is it? No problem with parking further away from the school but parents have enough to worry about with the safety issues of actually being there for children at hometime rather than to worry about being fined, if there were obvious signs showing where not to park, it would be better all round, after all, double parking relies on someone not parking on the opposite side of the road from you, if someone does this, why should you receive a ticket for their stupidity? Not allowing parking near the school only pushes the problem further away and unless we cover sheffield in yellow lines (how impractical)...isn't it better to allow this parking (so long as it doesn't cause obstruction...here comes the yellow paint idea again ) during 3-4pm so that parents can get out of the way sooner rather than later? I'm interested in intelligent solutions not slanging matches - Some people don't have the option of walking to collect their children and anyone with the option would use their cars What can be done?

The cars were parked parallel to eachother allowing passage of cars but because of the bend in the road not allowing easy passage for large buses (see note above on infrastructure), but ticketing parents is hardly the right plan of action now is it?....the cars were not directly in front of the school on the "zig-zags" but parked away from. Surely the road markings should be changed before parents are targetted in this way? and a pot of yellow paint is cheaper than 3 cops with chips on their shoulders?

Haven't the police got anything better to do in Sheffield? Just wanted to vent my disgust as for the 2nd day in a row, at least 3 police officers have been targetting parents collecting children from St. Catherine's Primary at Firshill. Being one of said parents I am absolutely frustrated by this matter, Today they had 3 cops ticketing parents, so if your house was burgled or you were mugged by a chav and the police didn't arrive til after 4pm, you know why! I realise there is a problem with traffic on Firshill Cres, but this is due to poor infrastructure, sending large buses down a steep, narrow and windy road which has chicanes and traffic calming measures such as speed bumps is completely absurd. Even during school time/normal time this route is far from ideal to send a large bus down. I just hope this matter is resolved one way or the other, I will respect whatever rules are put in place I just don't want to be one of the parents who returns to her car to find a ticket for a fine that I wouldn't be abled to afford just because they want to be there for their children. Once again the state seems to be in favour of benefits claimants "latchkey kids" or parents being late for hometime, as long as you use public transport or walk (which is hardly practical if you're trying to pay your own way in society by working. I don't want an argument on the rights or wrongs of this post, I just wanted to be heard as I felt very dismayed by the police force today (which I usually give my support). I just feel that as a law abiding tax payer I am constantly treated with contempt
