Afternoon all, I don't often post on here as it usually turns into a slanging match whenever someone mentions the words Sheffield and Kickboxing. However there's something bothering me and i'm just gonna tell you all and ask your advice:help: . I've been Kickboxing on and off now for roughly 3 years at the same club (which I won't name) now here's my issue, when sparring what size gloves should people be wearing?? Simple question you may think but where I train there are tons of people sparring and no consistency as to the weight of their gloves. Now i`m not daft enough to think that theirs a simple answer I realise people of different weights are going to wear different weight gloves for sparring, I have no issue with this. I am roughly 80kg and always spar in 180z gloves, because for me sparring is an essential part of training (not beating 5 bells out of each other like some seem to think). Now as i stated I got no issue's with people lighter than me using 14oz or 12oz gloves for sparring my issue lies with people heavier than me or at least the same weight sparring in 12\14oz gloves? I know there are loads of people in Sheffield who read this forum who are into their kickboxing and other martial arts so I wanna know what they think on the subject, i'll be interested to know what other people/clubs do? Cheers!

I heartily accept your challenge though I offer a proper challenge not some half baked attempt at a joke challenge! I shall gladly come to any camp you wish and spar with you, also I will not need my friends from blackdragon, though I feel if you are from AFK you may need the judges and promoter on your side to win any fight! I also laugh that you have trained in Thai land I feel the art of Muay Thai would be too much for such a narrow mind to comprehend!

Dear sir / madam, I do respect what you have written but I do not take kindly to you refering to me as 'not the quickest as cats'. All I am trying to say is that ring experience is very important. At Blackdragons they don't have this sort of training and it will be their downfall. Also, I've never heard of any serious martial arts camp without punch bags. You may have heart, but with my strength I would knock you out in 1 round.....which I think happened to a blackdragon on friday anyway! Well let me start by saying I have trained all around the world and I agree punchbags are a great peice of equipment and can be extremely useful in training but they are not essential in the long run, and yes ring experience can be useful but it again is not a major requirement , you can spar without being in a ring! And as for knocking me out in 1 round, I seriously doubt you have ever stepped inside a ring in your entire life my friend!

Just wanna say that Friday nite was Brill!! AFK showed serious skillz!! I felt sorry for the Blackdragon fighters...never really stood a chance. I heard that they don't even have punch bags or a ring when they train...just glorified boxersise classes if ya ask me. Anyway, well done AFK!!! I just wanna say about the above post, clearly honest Joe is not the quickest of cats (probably why he trains at AFK) and that if all he thinks he needs to become a good fighter is a ring and a punch bag he is way of the mark. Fighting is all about passion and heart and obviously skill, and you can have all the equipment in the world but if you have no heart you will be defeated!
