  1. Hi Jongo, Do you get a burning sensation in your throat at the same time?
  2. Surely it's the other way around - the number of cows and sheep you have will determine your bartering position and conversely the goods you have to offer will do likewise - the idea of money backed by a system ie. Gold or paper, is a relatively 'modern' concept - but I could be wrong:)
  3. There is an exhibiton of the work of Mark Rothko (1903 - 1970) at the Tate Modern in London. All the pundits I have seen on the TV, except Ian Hislop, are extolling the praises of this 'Artist' . I don't get it, all I see is a collection of wasted canvasses that my six year old grand-daughter could have put to better use with some tubes of acrylic paint and a pastry roller. To say Rothko was an 'Abstract Expressionist' is utter twaddle - the man could not paint! That is why, surely, he did not hand over the canvasses to the restaurant that commissioned the work - because they were crap! Someone please agree with me or show me the error of my ways:loopy:
  4. Same place as on a Saturday - in the ground:hihi:
  5. Resentment to who - the council or muslims? Maybe the council needs to move towards the 21st century, it wasn't all that long ago supermarkets were shut on a Sunday now they are open for 6 hours only - for religious reasons. Shops run by Asian people are open on Sundays for 'religious' reasons. As for the Muslim community, they have always buried their dead within 24 hours, no matter what day of the week. And as a caring multi cultural society we have taken that on board. To even harbor the thought that denying a christian burial on a weekend is "discriminatory" is utter twaddle and just feeds into the racist underclass. I doubt very much a cemetery official would say "You can't bury a person on Saturday because they are not Muslim" there may have been an aside that only Muslims bury their dead on the weekend, which is not the same thing. If people feel strongly enough about this, they should petition the council to alter their services to accomodate all sections of the community, rather than spout hateful comments about a small section of our society.
  6. If you type Sheffield Hallmarks in to Google the web page of the Assay office takes you straight to all the hallmarks etc.
  7. That Area is in the Sheffield Attercliffe constituency - nothing to do with Rotherham, had they been in Rotherham the RMBC would have OK'd their destruction years ago and allowed a Waverley type housing development on the site bang next to a Bio-mass plant:hihi:
  8. I can understand the 'credit crunch' bit, it does sound like a crap breakfast cereal, but what else would you have us call 'Team GB'??
  9. Q. When is an assasination attempt not an assasination attempt but an aspirational assasination attempt?? A. When the presidential candidate is Black! On the other hand if it had been Senator McCain........... No conspiracies here mate...
  10. If your daughter has any sense she will stay clear of Hartley Brook Avenue, it's full of teen mums, late night parties, the odd drug dealer - basically it's a sink for chavs etc.
  11. The Chief Exec. runs the council, councillors set policies and once agreed ensure council officers work to those policies via the chief exec. etc. Local MPs have no control over the local council, they can advise them but do not control them. The Lord Mayor is the front-person for the council and is also the chairperson when the council sits to deliberate.
  12. Hi TD Have you noticed that the girl in the forefront of the picture is a dead-ringer for Victoria Wood:D
  13. Try Aaron Whites at the back of the park on Burngreave Road, I forget the road name.
  14. Try here http://mdfs.net/User/JGH/Docs/Politics/ParlReview/Comment/ or type in to Google: Boundary review, Hallam ward, Sheffield and see what comes up. There is always the boundary commission's website for further info. Good luck
  15. If the bathroom tap water is at a lower pressure, and it's mains fed, that's because of the extra 10 foot or so the water has to climb in order to reach the tap. The difference in taste is usually because the water is not run as often as the kitchen sink taps. Try running the water for 2 minutes and then compare the temp. and the taste.
  16. OOPs, It is Castle Street ( I must try harder )
  17. Some interesting ideas but: To ban all political parties would mean banning all exchanges of ideas, would three neighbours agreeing upon an idea that affects their local community be a 'political party'? Political parties generally work to form a consensus on an issue. If it was left to the electorate to define policy then hanging would be brought back tomorrow and other nasties! True democracy should also apply to cabinets, governments etc., if the country elects 650 MPs 'democratically' we should trust them to elect their own cabinets. We do have detailed planning policies, they are called UDPs Unitary Development Plans and they work quite well on the whole. Area panels have a similar level of influence on city-wide policies already and they are the local voice of communities. I know you were just being slightly controversial with item 4. but I can't see the younger voters going for it.
  18. EUPHORIA!!..on the Forum..We'll have less of that if you don't mind:banana:
  19. It may well have been an 'unofficial supporter' or a toe-rag but the party has a duty of care to ensure that littering and vandalism does not take place 'In their name' and thereby bringing their good name:) into disrepute - we'll leave that to Gordon:hihi:
  20. I've just found this on the Home Office website. I've not read it but at least the question has been asked elsewhere: http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/pdfs2/hors243.pdf
