  1. yea your right oldtimer up past the baths and outside the baths the star walk used to pass when all sheffield turned out to watch them .
  2. dont forget when you talk about back to back there was 2 types of back to back houses in the slums of sheffield ,there was the posh back to back with a kitchen or 2 rooms down stairs or there was the straight up back to back with just one room downstairs which was the kitchen/front room/and bath room on fridays for a bath.I was born in the house we lived in on moor street which was the straight up back to back with one bedroom and a attic and you could use the attic if it had no leaks in the roof .
  3. Any body know if the BEECHNUT chewing gum is still around and if so where can i get some ?
  4. hey dont knock that area,i made a very good living selling furniture and household goods in that area BUT as payers well totley/eccelsall etc the WORST PAYERS in the city. it was well known that you had to struggle to get paid on time and 99% it was on the finance,so dont envy those people living in the big houses and with the flash cars its all DEBT.
  5. yea paul i moved in 1993 from sheffield born and bread in sheffield i was,i moved to the costa del sol bought a apartment with the wife and never looked back,ok i got my redundant cash from the pit and a good pension but i never blown it like some guys who worked in the pit but sheffield now well its dirty/hilly/and not the same ppl has i knew growing up in sheffield.we come over about 4 times a year to visit the kids and grandkids etc and they visit us etc but hey im glad when i land back at malaga, also its a damm sight cheaper to live where we are and you got the weather and plenty of brits live near so in total i can have a full breakfast and a pint and the roast beef etc same has i had in sheffield but sit out side and eat it ,so go on get over here try it cant lose nothing if only for a 2 week break.
  6. yea i remember him come to think of it there was two guys poss same height with bald head and the one im thinking of in the poss late 50/60s wore a r.a.f. long coat and if my mind is correct i heard he was a ace in the war in spitfires and it sent him a bit funny after he came out of the hospital also i was told he was decorated for him being a hero etc.
  7. his name was called roy black i went to school with him at springfield school of west street, and the pub the Elephant in Fit/Sq was a irish pub where we young kids used to pop in on a sat night but it was always playing the 40 shades of green Music, so off we went to the marples before our epic pub crawl up on west street finishing in the Raven now a students pub i think, also ive read about ppls thoughts on the old rag and tag market with its animal market along side now that was a place to see as a kid old edwards the pot man throwing up the pots and hiting the pots with a wood stick, come to think of it now i was born on the moor and you could shop near every where the town areas like heely/london road/attercliffe/woodseats all had lots of diff shops but sadly now sheffield is not the sheffield it was no charactors now like the Duke of Darnel or the dances like the lacarno/glossop road baths/and city hall, and the tram was always on time no matter what to get us to the english steel . mikelee1spain
