  1. And also here: Almost 90 minutes of pure "Roger Moffat," talking to Kieth Skues about his very interesting and colourful life (prior to his death.)
  2. What about a "gold" stagecoach tram in honour of her success for the city?
  3. 20 miles longer via M180 (from start of Parkway in Sheffield.)
  4. That route is quicker if you want to go to Mablethorpe, but Skeggy, No. (It is, but its only 3 mins quicker and 20 miles farther). From Sheffield to Skegness, there are several way s to get there depending on the shortest or the quickest. The quickest according to AA Routeplanner is via the Parkway, onto M1 South (shortest via Handsworth and Aston Parkway). Different routes thru Worksop and Lincoln make the journey quicker or shorter as well. Fastest: Total distance: 88.80 miles Journey time: 2 hours, 15 minutes Shortest: Total distance: 85.67 miles Journey time: 2 hours, 46 minutes But, via M180 Total distance: 105.04 miles Journey time: 2 hours, 12 minutes 3 minutes quicker, but 20 miles longer!!!
  5. Wow, now that's going back... Curtis Records, where McDonalds became... I used to go into your shop in the middish 70's. I'm sure "our" Rog didn't mean to be arrogant really. He might have been having a bad day!
  6. Anyone know where I can buy sequin fabric from in Sheffield. Thanks.
  7. Well, in my experience, although I do agree that the Stagecoach management of [Paul Lynch] is much to be desired, I have found that the Stagecoach drivers at least communicate and smile, whereas First drivers are mainly just plain old ignorant.
  8. Two wrongs don't make a right and i'm not a car driver by the way! You should NOT jump a RED light, whether you be driving a car or a bus for that matter!
  9. Some of his ashes were scattered over Hackenthorpe and some to the west side of Scotland and I believe some also somewhere down in Southern England via a small aeroplane.
  10. So, when was it last used for a funeral then? When i say chapel, I mean the church with the spire.
  11. Would anybody know when the chapel was last in use, say, for a church service, before it was finally boarded up? A friend of mine says 1970, but I cannot find anything to confirm that date. Thanks.
  12. I believe his funeral was held at St Andrews Church on Upper Hanover Street in late 1986.
  13. He actually said, the morning after the news of Elvis' death, that he [Elvis] should be stuffed and placed in the Radio Hallam reception.
  14. To get things right, Roger died in late 1986, and the shipping forecast incident was when he was with the BBC, many years before his Radio Hallam days
  15. In 1951, a Mrs Gladys Glossop lived at no. 21 Croydon St, two doors up from where I was to live from 1965. I went to Sharrow Lane as well.
  16. I think you are very wrong in knocking Rony. He is a very professional presenter, who has stood the test of time - he has been with the station now for over 27 years. There is many a listener who enjoys listenning to Rony and no presenter can be liked by all. If he is not to your liking that's fair enough, but that does not mean that others don't enjoy listening to his shows. Stop knocking Rony, as if you have an axe to grind.
  17. nowt wrong with Rony!!! http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1002997
  18. I have been doing some research into the area where I was brought up and I have found out that Croydon Street, just off Sharrow Lane, was once known by a different name. In the early 1870's, the street was known as "Frederick Street," but by the end of the decade, it had been given a new name "Croydon Street." The other streets in the vicinity kept their original names ie Fentonville St, Langdon St, Stemp St, Penley St and MacKenzie St, but "Frederick St" was renamed as "Croydon St." Does anyone know why this happened? The only reason I can think of is that there was another Frederick St near Attercliffe and because of that, having two streets with the same name was maybe causing confusion. Any input most appreciated as I find it very facsinating indeed.
  19. Although I live in Nether Edge now, my mum and dad live in Dronfield and I was coming back from visiting them. My parents have lived in Dronfield 33 yrs and I too have lived there for almost 20yrs. I still see Dronfield as my home, as I visit every week to see my parents. Dronfield is a respectable place and we don't want churned up grass verges and cars parked willy nilly everywhere. All i ask and i'm sure many others would agree is SENSIBLE and SAFE parking, and most certainly not cars parked illegally on verges and corners of roads.
  20. That is NOT the point. Most cars WERE parked illegally and some were parked dangerously on a main road. Dronfield is a nice area and cars should not be allowed to park on grassed areas too. The football ground has a responsibility and also the police. When you go to an home match at Hillsboro, cones are put out at certain spots, especially outside Penistone Rd end and cars are not allowed to park wherever they please. I shall be reporting this to Derbyshire police and the football ground. And finally, the only winners financially would be the local pub the Coach & Horses, so the argument that it benefitted the local trade is rather weak. Most shops bar a few are closed by that time in the evening in Dronfield. All I ask is sensible parking and the football club showing some responsibility, as parking like that is just not on.
  21. I just want to say how badly and dangerously parked, vehicles were to the match in Dronfield this evening. They were parked on grassed areas close to the ground and some dangerously parked (jutting out) up Bowshaw and on corners, on Holmley Lane. It was also very difficult for cars to turn right at the bottom of Holmley Lane to the left of Sainsbury's petrol station, due to cars parked on the kerbside. There were no cones placed by the police and I feel that it is the responsibility of the football club to make sure there is adequate parking to such games like this, that are likely to attract alot of people. Why not get in contact with a farmer, like the one at the top of Bowshaw, which has car boot sales? The farmer could charge a pound a car/vehicle and then at least cars would be parked legally and safely. It most certainly is not right cars being allowed to park on 'off road' grassed areas that could be churned up especially with the weather we have been having lately. Sheffield FC should show more responsibility as the oldest club in the world!!!
  22. We would annoy The Cross Guns Pub, by ringing the back door bell and then scarpering for our dear lives. I think they had a barking dog too. And, yes the place was all new and very exciting indeed.
