  1. That's right, the houses were empty for years and after the Rother was straightened a bit and flood banks built, they were knocked into one. I can remember two of the lads taking turns to go to school, because they only had one pair of shoes between them! Having said that, they were a genuine, happy family. Come what may, they always had a smile on their faces...... and candles on their top lips. there were several other large families, but not on this scale.
  2. I remember Tony. The fair was up the banking at the top of Frederick Street. I can remember the Gilbanks family, with around 15 kids. The dad would ride on the Walzer ana all the kids stood round and cheered him. Happy days.
  3. I remember it too, also living in Catcliffe (after moving from Treeton) in the early 60's. I can also remember the fair at Catcliffe.
  4. Hi, You can find a few contact details in this thread. Good luck. http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1336351&highlight=neighbourhood+watch
  5. I know it's sorted now, but next time you may like to try this for reporting any problems. Goes through to the relevant department in seconds.........and all Sheffield knows! https://www.fixmystreet.com/
  6. I walked past this Morning and looking at the police markings the car was traveling towards Intake, mounted the kerb in the middle of the bridge over the A57, then hit and badly damaged the bridge. It then carried on until it hit the tree. The police markings go on for another 20 metres or so beyond the tree and sand has been spread on the pavement about 15 metres along, where the motor and gearbox landed.
  7. The Swifts were still there, Christine was the same age as me. I know (of) the others you mention, but they were all a few years older than me.
  8. Val is (was) my step-sister. Sandra is the daughter of Ernest Brown. Not seen any of them since my dad and Annie passed away within four days of each other in December '89. I remember Christine Swift, we were in the same class at Swallownest school. Don't know if you remember "Porky Bill" Stevens and his wife Connie. They lived in Frederick Street. Both gone now, but were my ex-wifes' (also deceased) Uncle & Auntie.
  9. My dad married Annie Brown, who lived at Nr. 15, that's when we moved from Treeton. I do remember the buses and I also remember on of the old double deckers taking a short cut from Swallownest back to the depot. When he drove under the bridge, it took the top off just like a sardine tin.
  10. I lived on South View Terrace too (1962 -1966) at Nr. 15. Was born at the other end of the floods in Mill lane, Treeton!
  11. Germany have been doing this for years. They now have machines in every supermarket that read the labels on bottles or cans with laser and print out a coupon which you can either cash or use against purchases.
  12. Not quite Sheffield......I went to Treeton Infants & Junior school from 1952 to 1959, when I moved to Swallownest County Secondary School (Aston Woodhouse). Favourite teacher was Miss Booker (Mrs. Lake). The absolute worst was Mr. Smedley.
  13. Minds a blank on this one. I know the name but can't put a face to it.
  14. If you worked with "snowy" then I probably know you too. Do you remember Albert the motor mechanic? He's my dad.
